Matisyahu - WP Lyrics

Slap me Daft, we sat down in the back of the class
To seize knowledge we don't need, I forgot my late pass
But I'm early to a arival beatbox, you got raps?
Meet me on the football field, don't sleep on field, the quarterback
No one clapped when we locked in, it was removal of our class
But my flag got captured and I fell between the cracks
My tool for inspiration turned into a handicap
No matter how I tried, I just couldn't fill the gaps
Those whipper snappers, they got trapped old chap
They lost the way, they never had the right map
Needed a sneak attack to slap the demons off my back
So I packed for the schddle dreamed big I wouldn't settle
Put the pedal to the metal and returned to fundamentals
I'll never forget running through the hall with all y'all rebels
Roaming through the high land, young bucks invincible
Echoes in my brain, if kids report to the principle
Substance dulls the mind
Traife wine clouds the heart
You can't sew a stitch with one hand
While you're taking it apart
Bright lights might look nice
But they sure won't make you sharp
You can't sew a stitch with one hand
While you're taking it apart

Yeah, misty morning and my mum's a mess
To make matters worse dog my pops is stressed
Life is a test, make the grade or catch an F
Now death is all that's left to ponder
I wander off hoping to catch my breath

Yeah, misty morning and my mum's a mess
To make matters worse dog my pops is stressed
Life is a test, make the grade or catch an F
Now death is all that's left to ponder
I wander off hoping to catch my breath
And hold it, mold my memories from untold scripts
And roll up in a tornado twist, now I'm certain
There's a pertinent reason I'm on this earth
Seasons change in white plains, but we remain alert
When new school years appear, fools fear for a failure
And crawl away in tears
I play Popeye the Sailor and stay with spinach
We walk the halls with a grimace
Yeah they gossip in groups
I try to mind my business and tell the truth
For instance, I listen, see it all with basketball court vision
Ignoring ignorance in fields of fiction
We lean back in the calmest position
And embrace the honesty found within our tension

What's good?

Substance dulls the mind
Traife wine clouds the heart
You can't sew a stitch with one hand
While you're taking it apart
Bright lights make you blind
But they sure don't leave you sharp
You can't sew a stitch with one hand
While you're taking it apart

Trapped in the elevator of your mind
Is it real, what will you find behind the door
Your imaginations put you in a bind
Around you there's a cloud of gloom
Swallow the key, lock yourself in a room
Can't see outside of your Universe

No more war, there won't be anymore hunger
No jealousy, not even competition

Let go, release, you hold the keys
Time we evaporate into the breeze
We are nothing, we are something
Let go, release, you hold the keys
It's time we evaporate into the breeze
We are nothing, we'll be something
Welcome to the desert of my soul
You can stay if you like
There's room for one more
There's room for one more

    @Justin Jennings IKR. I'm 15. Already halfway to 30.

  18. M.... H....

Thank you! I did the same thing and it opened my eyes to how I was judgemental about Matisyahu. I didn't look past the pop music to see his message but now I do. I've been a fan since he started and his music has changed me.

  19. M.... H....

I DON'T know anything about you, but based on the way you are calling Matisyahu a sellout based on something as skin-deep as the way his new style sounds instead of how it feels and the message behind it, and the fact that you are only here because of Stan's article, I don't want to know anything about you.

  20. d.... ....

I'll give it to you after listening to Spark Seeker again.
It's a big step forward if we're comparing it to Light.

I'll give both albums a chance again tomorrow.

  21. d.... ....

fact is, there are a BUNCH of GREAT artists who've stuck with their roots yet evolved into something wonderful, always changing the sound always keeping the soul.

I don't listen to this too often at all, only reason i came was because i read Ipcus article.
Fact is, you don't know shit about me.
There's a differenec between experimenting with sound and taking a path which's long been walked upon and calling it experimenting. Fact is, most musicians don't experiment - most music is shit.

  22. M.... H....

You're way of thinking is what causes stagnation. Listen to his old album for the rest of your life and miss out on everything new that he does. "I like his old stuff" Then buy his old stuff, and then talk to me about loving progression. An artist can't evolve if they don't experiment with their sound.

  23. M.... H....

If you even listened to Youth, you would see that Matisyahu always had pop as an influence. This is nothing new!

  24. M.... H....

    I'm judging your close mindedness.

Matisyahu HAS evolved by changing his style. He has lots of control over the music he makes and he wouldn't have done it if he didn't want to. Have you even seen him live? It doesn't sound like his studio albums all that much. AND he's a shit ton better at singing and beatboxing than he ever was before. I'd take Matisyahu's positive, meaningful "devolution", as you call it, over anything Rihanna has done.

  25. d.... ....

I love progression and i hate stagnation, but i hate when a strong musician devolves.
I don't give a fuck if it's "mainstream" as in a lot of people listen to it, but i do care if the music sounds mainstream (read: boring, dull, lacks emotion, lacks depth, no sense of evolution or new thinking - Rihanna for example).

Funny how you're juding me on this depth when all you know about me is that i dislike matisyahu's new material.

  26. M.... H....

Who cares if it's mainstream or not, if you are a fan of the music that wouldn't matter to you. You're a person who doesn't care about the message he is trying to give, you're just a shallow. I was shallow like you are now but I looked past the image and actually listened to the message. If you can't relate to the meanings then Matisyahu is not for you, old or new albums, they all have the same positive message that has totally gone over your head. You're a hater who hates progression.

  27. M.... H....

How do you not see depth in a man trying to raise his son to be a good person? You're an idiot, and you should feel like an idiot!

  28. d.... ....

the difference between mainstream music and non-mainstream music is rarely the lyrics alone.

  29. d.... ....

He's singing about his son and I can't see the depth in that.
Neither do i sympathize with his religious beliefs so all that i really care about is the actual music.

And no, selling out does not mean that you become the avarage rapper, you've got that all wrong.

  30. M.... H....

Changing his musical style is not the same as selling out His message is still the same, you just don't read and analyze the lyrics, you just look at the surface. I don't like modern pop that much either but to say that he's sold out is just false. If he sold out he would be singing about women and cars and success and money, but he doesn't. You can't accept change so you have to rationalize your own prejudiced judgementalism by saying that he sold out.

  31. d.... ....

He has, He's doing way more listener-friendly AKA mainstream music as of now.
You're just being protective of your own image and or Matisyahu.

  32. M.... H....

He hasn't sold out. You're just judgemental.

  33. d.... ....

I hate the fact that Matisyahu changed..
Thing is, I wouldn't have cared if he would've stuck with the same soul and feel as he had back "in the days" - he's simply not as "interesting" anymore as He's sold out.
Although I'm happy for him, recon he deserves it (as any good musician does), but it's sad that he had to lose so much on the way.

Youth's still my favourite reggae/dancehall album of all times.

@TheBlindPig1 Jews and christians must unite to fulfill prophecy. And it was not the jews as a people it was the zealots and high priests who turned on christ........Just in case if you did not notice all of the disciples of christ were jews.

i grew up in white plains my whole life, and still live here now. Stan Ipcus was actually a substitute teacher for some of my classes in highschool. Hearing his stories of him and matt, and how you can turn something around like matt did is truly inspirational. You couldnt possibly pick a better person to represent White Plains.
