Mathis, Johnny - Love Won't Let Me Wait Lyrics

The time is right, you hold me tight
And love's got me high
Please tell me yes and don't say no
Honey, not tonight

I need to have you next to me
In more ways than one
And I refuse to leave
'Til I see the morning sun
Creep through your window pane
Because love won't let me wait

The time is right to turn down the lights
And take my hand
We'll take a flight and spend the night
In Wonderland

Now move a little close to me
You owe it to yourself
And I will selfishly take a little for myself
And it's because of you
That love won't let me wait

I need your love so desperately
And only you can set me free
When I make love to you
We'll explode in ecstasy
And I won't take the blame
'Coz love won't let me wait

I need your love so desperately
And only you can set me free
When I make love to you
(Love to you)
We'll explode in ecstasy
And I won't take the blame
(And I won't let you take the blame)
'Coz love won't let me wait

Come spend this night in Wonderland
(I want to spend it in Wonderland)
Love won't let me wait
I need to have you next to me
(I want you close to me)
'Coz love won't let me wait

Come spend this night in Wonderland
(I want to spend it in Wonderland)
'Coz love won't let me wait

  3. R.... J....

First of all, this song brings back wonderful memories from back in the day. And, I love these voices.

  4. k.... ....

This is an amazing track. I love the Luther Vandross version too, especially when he sings it live. I will never compare one vocalist over the other. Each one brings something brilliant to the table. Just enjoy the vocals instead of comparing vocals. I love this track

I need to have you next to me
    In more ways than one.....

  7. T.... S....

They are the musical duet combination forever...Their voices just jell together. They are into each other on this tune. And many more.. Or they have a special bond of friendship and rightfully exceptional of their art. Heavenly voices. PERFECT

  8. w.... e....

Johnny Mathis appears to be of mixed ancestry - American Indian and American African.

What does it matter? He has an angel-like voice which he knows to control very well indeed.

And remember, "what man has done, man can do." ... Any man/woman, irrespective of ethnicity.

  9. w.... e....

Fantastic arrangement; Beautiful voices; wonderful delivery.

  10. w.... m....

JOHNNY AND DENIECE SING AS ANGELS ON THIS SONG

  11. w.... m....

JOHNNY MATHIS IS BLACK AND NATIVE AMERICAN

    w.... m....

@rosemary silva This was actually me writing from Willia's page. I am Black and Native American and White. I sing just as beautiful as Mr Mathis. Color has absolutely nothing to do with the gift God gives humans. I thought Deniece Williams was White when I first heard her sing.

    w.... m....

If you think yourself white, black and native you are not a person, it is a rainbow.
Have I heard that whites imitate black people singing, for example? Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin! Now, black imitating white sing? This is the joke of the century!
Tell it at the next KKK meeting you attend.

    w.... m....

@rosemary silva you seem to have some sand stuck up your cooter. You might want to wash it out or something. It may put you in a better mood

    w.... m....

And I'm sure you should suck the penis of all the black-white-natives of the USA, since it's a "rainbow".
I'm not grumpy, I'm just having fun with you. A "rainbow" two-legged.
    Idiot! kkkkkkk

    w.... m....

Wow .That's why he won't. Ever ageing

  12. R.... V....

Does anyone know his ethnicity. I mean it says he's black but he definitely looks mixed black and something else. Perhaps mixed white, hispanic, or middle eastern even? Idk...

  23. i.... 2....

Obviously the dislikes are people that missed the like button.

  24. n.... ....

@SupaHead1977 There's a good chance Johnny is mixed with Mexican or French. Especially since he's from Port Arthur, Texas.

  25. n.... ....

@gigismith1 Major Harris did the original in 1972. Luther's version didn't come out until 1988.

  26. I.... ....

    @gigismith1

The original singer is Major Harris.

  27. A.... S....

I always thought Luther Vandross was the original singer, now I know he wasn't!

  28. R.... M....

    Senait Ashenafi:
Have you heard of Engelbert Humperdinck, his singing?

Have heard he is ethnically and nationally Indian - as from India. Do you know?

  30. F.... L....

  33. e.... ....

Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful song..................two of my favorite singers.

  34. S.... ....

I did some research on Johnny and they said that his ethnicity is black and that he was gay...I never knew that tho....but being black...makes a lil sense about his hair and complexion.

  35. a.... ....

@rufus317 They actually recoreded in 1983.

  36. C.... P....

Magnífica canção para um dueto fantástico! O que querer mais?!

both of his parents are African-American and Caucasian ...where you get east indian from (his hair texture)? lol naw but for real both parents are black and Caucasian

  39. 7.... ....

    I think 1978.

  40. s.... b....

That's b/c he is black silly, lol

  41. p.... s....

This song is the answer to a question man has asked since time began..."What is love?"

Two very beautifully different voices complimenting eachother's vocals like pancakes and syrup.... Sensually exquisite...

  42. r.... ....

No Harris did this first in 74' Johnnie & Deniece in 78'. Luther way later

  43. G.... C....

no i think harris did after johhny and after harris luther made a cover of it as well

  44. p.... ....

Chantejoy-- This song was Originally done by Major Harris, I think he sings it the best... I've hear similiar but he's still the best one... great song btw!

  45. c.... ....

What a beautiful, sensual song. Lord have mercy! I knew Luther sang it...but didn't know it was a cover. So nice to hear something romantic vs the 'love songs' of today that are far less poetic about 'turning down the light'.

  46. D.... K....

oh!!! you are telling the truth

  47. D.... K....

oh im bout to check it out

  48. R.... ....

I don't like the photo of him in the purple shirt on his website. It doesn't look like him at all.

  49. D.... K....

this is an older picture but all his pictures look young though

  50. R.... ....

This song is fabulous. I love it. And, Johnny hasn't changed a bit. Looking at this is like looking at him last August, except he was wearing a baseball cap. I don't know how he stays so young looking. I call him, Facia Bella.
