Mathis, Johnny - Love Look Away Lyrics

I have wished before
I shall wish no more

Love, look away
Love, look away from me
Fly when you pass my door
Fly and get lost at sea

Call it a day
Love, let us say we're through
No good are you for me
No good am I for you

Wanting you so I try too much
After you go I cry too much

Love, look away
Lonely though I may be
Leave me and set me free
Look away, look away, look away from me

Look away, look away, look away from me

ReadMeReadYou: Well I'm back after a two year absence, and glad to be here with you and Mr. Mathis. I never realized that your viewer comments go back seven years! Nevertheless it's good to be listening to Love Look Away. As a matter of fact I just came from Johnny's beautiful rendition of Brazil. Your posting also. In my comments, I recommended that the listeners of Brazil drop by over here and really hear what a high C sounds like. Thank you for providing us the time to spend with this American Master.

    8.... L....

What "high C"??? I heard no High C. Now, Pavarotti hits the High C. This is one of Mathis' superb performances, of course, but "High C"????

  9. A.... S....

OMG, So beautiful, that angelic voice, thank you ReadMeReadYou.

  10. D.... R....

One of my favorite all time Johnny songs! His breath control when he was young was a unique talent!

  11. B.... ....

When will Johnny be honored at the White House?

    B.... ....

Well, he has sung there, several times.

  12. J.... K....

So beautiful, lost love. Look away from me.

  13. 8.... L....

It has been many years since we parted, but I think of her every single day. I will never forget her. Never.

    8.... L....

Assuming the parting was not due to death, oh
    the pain of unrequited love!

    8.... L....

Unrequited love, Milton. it has been 30 plus years. Sad.

  14. j.... ....

Beautiful, pity it can't be uploaded.  I'm looking for "There's a time for us, a time and place for us, peace and quiet and open air etc" sung, of course by johnny Mathis and not to be confused with another song which is similar but NOT the above.  Can anyone help please ?

    j.... ....

The name of the song is SOMEWHERE from "West Side Story"......not, there's a time for us. It's up several times on youtube. You'll find it. Take care.

  15. j.... ....

Thank you !!!!! ReadMeReadYou.  I have been looking for this marvel for many many years.

    j.... ....

You're welcome. Glad you found it.

  16. r.... ....

Truly the best rendition - tender and powerful at the same time, mournful and bitter-sweet. Thanks.

    r.... ....

I truly agree with you, when you do the best work you can and put everything you are into it, it always works!

  17. J.... L....

I failed to mention heartrendering memories of my "lost" Maria. Sad.

  18. J.... L....

I lost her 35 years ago. Not a single day goes by that I still deepy long for her love. Thank you Johnny for making those beautiful memories come alive again.

  19. J.... L....

    2:20 and 2:50...heartbreaking.

  20. J.... L....

Leonard Burnstein, the famous composer/conductor was once asked what was his most favorite musical instrument. His reply? "The Voice". He must have been thinking of Mr. Mathis at the time. A hauntingly sad song most beautifully done. Note: Not many singers (if any) could ever reach that magnificent high note at the end of the song. Many memorable wishes, Mr. M.

  21. A.... G....

I've never heard him reach such emotional heights. It's so good one is tempted to think it's a personal thing. Who knows/

  22. S.... C....

"I'll Buy You a Star" is my favorite JM album. With Nelson Riddle and his Orchestra, great songs and Johnny in wonderful voice, you can't get any better. I really didn't understand this song in my 20's or 30's, but now that I'm well past 50, and hurt by love one too many times, I finally realize what it's saying. You can also hear JM's operatic training ("And This is My Beloved" is another one). The more I listen to Johnny Mathis, I am really amazed how GOOD he is.

  23. R.... ....

    You're welcome.

  24. R.... ....

Keep playing this song and it is haunting. Beautiful phrasing! I , too would love to hear him do this now. His voice has changed, but he adjusts wonderfully. Thank you for posting.

  25. D.... R....

One of Johnny's best ever. Obscure but one of my favorite!

  26. T.... ....

Always loved this song by Johnny what a voice! Love it!!!! Timeless.

  27. A.... ....

I think this is the best version of the song, but I wish that Johnny Mathis would
re=record this song now, 53 years later. His phrasing was great in 1958, but now
it is superb. I'm sad that he didn't win that grammy. His last performance on the
Oprah show was superb, where he sang that country classic 'Crazy".

  28. R.... S....

Johnny Mathis, Rodgers & Hammerstein (this is from "Flower Drum Song"), and Nelson Riddle make an excellent combination in this 1959 recording, taken from the great "I'll Buy You a Star" album.

  29. R.... ....

You're very welcome. I love this by Johnny too.

  30. t.... l....

Just an outstanding song and he does it so well, thanks for posting this video of yours...........

  31. v.... ....

Try listening to Tony Bennetts rendition
Of course this is also great

  32. R.... ....

Thank you for pointing out the spelling of Mr. Rodgers name. I had no idea. I fixed it up top but I can't in the video. Appreciate your telling me that. Thank you. And also, thank you for stopping by and commenting. It is a beautiful song, especially sung by Johnny Mathis.

  33. R.... ....

  34. A.... ....
