Mathis, Johnny - Laura Lyrics

You know the feeling of something half remembered
Of something that never happened, yet you recall it well.
You know the feeling of recognizing someone
That you've never met as far as you could tell, well.
Laura is the face in the misty light,
Footsteps that you hear down the hall.
The laugh that floats on a summer night
That you can never quite recall.
And you see Laura on the train that is passing through.
Those eyes, how familiar they seem.
She gave your very first kiss to you.
That was Laura but she's only a dream.

Its a story that will break your heart.
A man named Rocky Bratt has committed himself to this cause.
    Beautiful man.
    I hope you see this

A fabulous song from a classic movie... always. There is only ONE Johnny Mathis.

  20. J.... L....

His voice brings back so many beautiful memories

  21. J.... R....

I have , not one, but TWO daughters named Laura. After this most beautiful song, of course. A world class pianist in Savannah, Ken Palmer, played this so perfectly, it was impossible to ever forget it. Mathis does it justice.

  22. L.... B....

One of the most beautiful and genuine voices, ever. His vault has over 3000 unique orchestrations- just imagine the brain and voice power needed to harness that talent.

  23. L.... 5....

How great music was and how great it could still be but today's songwriters keep writing music for children and others for the music retarded. Even great spanish music has gone down the drain with all the dirty and insulting crap they sing. And now they call themselves "artists"? Please, there hasn't been singers like Maths, Cole, etc for many moons.

  24. M.... D....

  60. C.... ....

The memories, oh the memories when I hear the Voice of the beloved Johnny Mathis. Smooth as silk, in every note. Such an American treasure.

  61. L.... P....

There's always someone, haunting someone, haunting someone,
I can't sleep easy, cause I'm afraid of dreaming
And then the memory of the dream
There's always someone, haunting someone, haunting someone

Laura is the face in the misty night
Footsteps that you hear down the hall
The laugh that floats on a summer's night
That you might never quite recall
And you see Laura on a train that is passing through
Those eyes how familiar they seem
She gave your very first kiss to you
That was Laura but she's only a dream

She gave your very first kiss to you
    That was Laura
    But she's only a dream

Yes she gave your very first kiss to you
That was Laura, but she's only a dream
    A dream, a dream

  62. L.... C....

I, too, have only the highest regard for Mr. Mathis.
I also feel very strongly about Peter Nero. That brilliant pianist lays into MOUNTAIN GREENERY -- and the concert soars!

  63. F.... F....

Preciosa melodia de la película "Laura"gran interpretación de Johnny Mathis.

  64. J.... F....

só coisas boas adoro arranjos primoroso s d ++++++++++

  65. F.... ....

I love Johnny Mathis! He is great artist and singer!

  66. C.... b....

As long as you live, Johnny, Your voice will not desert you. We all love you.

  67. B.... ....

I would like to add that Peter Nero, famed composer-pianist, conducted this performance, as well as the other orchestral accompaniment in the special, and the excellent arrangement was written by (the also famed) Don Costa, who based it on the soundtrack of the movie, with the original music composed by David Raskin. (Johnny Mercer was asked to add the words later, after the movie was released and the music became a hit.)

    B.... ....

It's a wonderful piece by everyone involved, Sherrie

    B.... ....

    Yes, it is.

  68. D.... K....

We traveled from Boston to Pittsburgh this past summer to see Johnny. He appeared with the Pittsburgh Symphony. Always a class act. Johnny's performance of this standard, alone, made the trip worthwhile. There is simply no one like him. Unique in every way. A treasure, still performing superbly at 80!

    D.... K....

Love this man to the moon and back

  69. B.... ....

    Amazing artist, incredible song.

  70. O.... d....

    maravillosa interpretación .admirable.

  71. T.... D....

Gorgeous song perfectly sung by the great Johnny Mathis.

  72. A.... S....

Johnny's concerts are so simple, all the stage needs is him and his orchestra, none of those stuff they use for other singers to attract attention.  We love to see him, just him , he is a COMMAND PERFORMANCE by himself.  Thanks for sharing this lenoremewton.

    A.... S....

I've been enchanted by his voice since I was a teenager (he's 3 years older than I am). Saw him in Pittsburgh for the first time on 7-22-2017 with The Pittsburgh Symphony. Frankly, I would have loved to have had him sing only with the piano and Gil's guitar.

  73. G.... B....

Tive uma namorada, que se chamava, Laura,; ela adorava, esta musica !

  74. L.... B....

I was named after this song by my Dad who loved it. It is the first time I am hearing it. It feels weird to know I got my name from this song. Johnny has such an amazing voice.

    L.... B....

My dad loved this song too he told us kids he thought of Mom every time he heard it on the radio so many years ago .Dad is gone now but everyone of us think of him when we hear this song and Mom the most.

    L.... B....

To Laura Benysek : In response to your comment 2 years ago about the You-Tube video of "Laura" sung by Johnny Mathis, this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written, and I urge you to also see the 1944 "film noir" classic movie "Laura" staring Gene Tierney as Laura and Dana Andrews. Her classic beauty set against this hauntingly beautiful music is wonderful. You may see it on Turner Classic Movies channel, or perhaps on Netflix. Everyone named Laura owes it to herself to see this film and hear this beautiful music.

  75. J.... K....

    Always superb! 💖 💖

Just pure love. Thank you kindly. And. From my little family too

  81. R.... S....

As i approach a certain age the more i hear Johnny Mathis the more bizarre i find it that his return to form he credited to the great duet with Deniece Williams.
This artist is undoubtedly one of the greatest exponents of the popular sung word in history,to coin a phrase 'he could sing the phone book' and make it worth listening to.
Gentle, passionate and strong to overcome obstacles he certainly faced as a young man his versions of any song stand up or surpass originals.Lucky me.

    R.... S....

+Rob Sharp  You are right, Johnny can sing the phone book. He is exceptionally talented.

  82. B.... B....

This is a Don Costa arrangement and JM recorded it in 1963 on his " Tender is the Night" album. It's amazing that 34 years later it sounds exactly the same, and he looks terrific at 62 years old ( he turns 80 this year) in this video.

  83. b.... ....

    very haunting music
