Mathis, Johnny - I'm Glad There Is You Lyrics
In this world of ordinary people
Extraordinary people, I'm glad there is you
In this world of over-rated pleasures
Of under-rated treasures, I'm glad there is you
I live to love, I love to live with you beside me
This role so new, I'll muddle through with you to guide me
In this world where many, many play at love
And hardly any stay in love, I'm glad there is you
More than ever, I'm glad there is you
In this world where many, many play at love
And hardly any stay in love, I'm glad there is you
More than ever, I'm glad there is you

Mathis, Johnny I'm Glad There Is You Comments
..wow..
Glad there is you and your music
ABSOLUTE CHILLS INDUCING PERFECTION...my GOD!!!
What a lovely voice and so emotional.
Sorry, Mathis fans', but he mangles this beautiful song. Have a listen to Johnny Hartmann. You can thank me later.
Best Johnny Mathis LP ever ! All songs are fantastic and so is the orchestra !
Usually a jazz standard—but beautiful torch song!
I am so in love with this song romantic and prfectly sung thank you Johnny Mathis
Coming in at 1:15,
the opening verse
is almost as long
as some songs!
For the people
who have no interest in lovely
music like this, and even despise it, just the verse
would put them
to sleep, or for some, be pure torture. This masterpiece was written by Jimmy
Dorsey and Paul
Madeira in 1941.
Paul McCartney's
publishing company owns
the rights. Mathis'
performance here
is a paragon of breath control and
note-hanging. Most of the big names in pop music recorded this song.
Oh, I had forgotten about this beautiful song! So happy I stumbled upon it today!
Thanks for sending me here.
Somehow this song got lost on
me due to there being so many fantastic songs on this LP. Also
I think when I was
much younger I
was impatient with songs that had particularly long opening verse. It was like:
"Let's get going!"
This is perhaps why introductory verses have disappeared as an
art form. I left a
comment at the
top of the page.
Thanks again!
(Another favorite is DANCING IN
THE DARK😃😃)
This is a classic! From my favourite Mathis album.
more than ever I'm glad there is you...

I was blessed to see Johnny in person in September, 2017 in my home town, Findlay, Ohio. He still sounds wonderful-that voice is still golden. The greatest ever!
Extraordinary interpretation, I love this album by Johnny Mathis. Thank you Mr. Mathis.
Best album I ever owned. Such beautiful love songs.
what a sound
amazing
Ethereal as usual. Thanks Johnny for reminding us what real music sounds like. Today its noise and anger. Great memories
with my favorite ladies of days of past. MSA
soooo romantic.
Awesome!
This is jazz -- people don't usually associate this sound or these artists with jazz, but that doesn't make any difference, because it's still jazz.
Jazz so stuck up its own arse without realising blues took it into the 60s.
@Rob Sharp (laughing) I think you may have a point.(still laughing)
I have his "Open Fire, Two Guitars" CD which was recorded on 10/2/58 & 10/3/58. It is a "Collector's Edition" 24-Karat Gold Disk. SBM (Super Bit Mapping) and "MASTERSOUND". "Guaranteed to have been manufactured from the first generation mastertapes, actual session work tapes, or other original recording sources available. It is in brand new condition without any visibility of use. I have treasured this CD because I knew it was special. Beautiful small poster of Johnny inside. The best photo I've ever seen of him. Does anyone have one like this? I have only played it 2 or 3 times and played the regular CD of the same to keep it flawless. I just bought 2 Sonos Play 5's and the Sonos subwoofer and I am going to play it right now.
+Philip Dow How do you like that!? Not only are we again in agreement ('Open Fire...' being the top Mathis LP in my estimation but 'Warm' being the only one to compete) but also coincide in owning the treasured Mathis gold-disc with the fold-out that pictures Mr. Mathis leaning against the same hearth on the cover.
Just can't say that I own a pair Sonos Play 5 also - so, stream away!
+Mauricio Durón When I was the age of my photo, I was in a club in Boston called "The Punch Bowl" and when I walked in there were not many people in there. I ordered a Pabst Blue Ribbon and asked why it was so empty and the bartender said " because Johnny Mathis is downstairs and everyone is down there." I had more than a crush on him and I didn't go down because I was afraid of being rejected. I don't know why because I was one of the best looking guys in there. ( don't mean to be vain ). I am so sorry now that I didn't go down and talk with him. Don't know why I am telling you this?
Sometimes our souls just need to say things even if we don't always know why.
Mauricio Durón I'd like to talk with you on the phone. My email is: [email protected]
"Warm" is his very best album. Every song is a masterpiece. I love how the violins wrap around his voice.
+Inan Raeder His arrangements on the Mathis album Merry Xmas are superb too!
+Philip Dow I totally agree. Each song is priceless!
+Philip Dow I think "Moaning Low" is equally top !
The Merry Xmas album he also did with Percy Faith is fantastic too.Faith knew exactly how to enhance his unique tone with his strings.
Hi Philip. I love the way you talk about Johnny. You show yourself to be a very sensitive man......not at all a common thing in this life. I wish that those of us who love Johnny could have a party and play our favorites to each other.......wow....that would be such a feeling evening. Heaven to me. John
Johnny just has the smoothest most orgasmic voice..
Oh yeah.
GORGEOUS.....He's awesome. THANK YOU for posting this truly beautiful share.
Johnny, a Master of
Signing! Always and Now, even at his, age! l
Just a number! He takes one, to a, Heavenly place! God love him Forever!
One of my favourites from my favourite Mathis album.Going to have the title track played when I go.
+Inan Raeder I have often thought of the same. I'd like to have "Warm" played at my funeral. I have played it thousands of times. It relates to the most beautiful night of my life.
Young Johnny Mathis so good. Old Johnny Mathis so good. I loved this album.
Beautiful.Mmmmmmmm
how was his voice always so full of echo?
Thanks lovermatic! This is super Johnny.
Johnny Mathis and Percy Faith conducting. An unbeatable combination.
+Lois Pierce Conducting AND arranging!
Beautiful, My mother loved Johnny, so I grew up listening to him, always loved this song from the album Warm, which I have now, it had belonged to my Mom, I lost her when I was only 11 so whenever I hear him I think of her.
+Abbie Kokee That is so sad. My heart goes out to you.
This is the kind of music we all need in our life. Sung by "THE MASTER".No words can describe that beautiful voice. Makes you want to be in love. Thank you.
from Jose Sepulveda......this song reminds me just how wonderful it is to be in love. I'll be happy with just one more time.........
thank you for posting this magnificent song. I don't have to strew my own everywhere.
I have seen Johnny perform this many times. He is truly "One of a kind"! God bless you Johnny.
Me too Alice
Me too Alice
Me too Alice
from Jose' Sepulveda...........smoother than five-star cognac..........
This IS speechless, like the lady below says. My all time favorite song to dance to with my wife. With this song we become one on the ballroom dance floor-------the utter grace and flowing movement are simply heavenly. It's like making love on the dance floor in the best, most spiritual and feeling sense of that term. Mathis is a DEED, DEEP feeling dream come true.
What a voice...and what a great song...my girlfriend from HS always got in a romantic mood when I put Ma
this on....what memories!!
What a voice! I want to be in love again.
Alice Portlock .That sounds like a prayer.
This is really.... Speechless..
A girlfriend and I--two love-sick saps--would listen to this every day after school. Not a teen anymore, but this is still timeless and beautiful to say the least!
Ethereal as usual. Thanks Johnny.
Fine Song Johnny!
Thanks for Posting!
Aloha from Hawaii!
This is pure joy. What a wonderful classic. Thank you for this video.
One lovely song. So grateful for it.
The more you play it - the better this performance becomes a classic!
You know he recorded this in 1956 for his debut album and recorded for the "Warm" in 1957
