I once felt this way with someone who could not love me as the same and as much and colored every lies he spoke so I thought it was his,truth...but I am in a good place in my LIFE without him...didnt wanna sleep on a bed of dryed out throns that once protected the soft petles that I once held to me

I used to hide my love for mb20 to maintain my “cool indie” vibe, but this song was the one to shout out to the world that i fucking love them.

perfectly describes a REALLY bad relationship I went through about....17 years ago. I actually wrote the lyrics to this song down and put them on her car windshield under the wiper. It was my way of telling her it was over. The most depressing and draining 2 yrs of my life. Great song!

So from the comments I guess many see this as a religious song?

I always thought it was about an empty relationship that once was good but now has turned into an emptiness that both know but lie to each other for the others sake but finely one says this has to stop. We can not lay in this bed of lies anymore and we both need to move one to other choices. We both need to find true happiness and ourselves again.

in a self reflecting way it is about lying to ones self. Making choices out of fear of change and the risk. Choosing the safe route regardless if it really makes you happy and feel fulfilled. Having to look into this relationship with yourself and to make the change. To take the lessons learned, to not be weak, and to take that changed in life that you deny yourself....

though I can see how those of a religious nature can turn it into a spiritual song.

+Bob Banger It's not religious based that's for sure. All the songs he's written have a deep meaning but he never declares/talks about religion. It's about his life and feelings. Usually about his past. He's said this is the only song they've NEVER played in concert. Interesting.

Hmm...YOU DO make a good point there. Although, I don't really see how either of your arguments, or better yet, examples, really describe something of a religious nature. But point being...i do like both views on the meaning of the song. And honestly, I believe that mystery may just be one of the fundamental beauties of music and poetry.

I might even pray for his rest with him if he doesn't want to go to church with me.

i a going to church and pray for peace and rest for my father every sunday  with him staying alive   and hopefully he will join me.  because that is what sunday is for.   and I think that is the only thing we got wrong is not going to church.
