Mastodon - Megalodon Lyrics
Myth or legend
Nymph tale washed ashore
Near the kraken sleepeth stirs coral and bone
Infinite city
No sexy sneer
Human and animal
Banter songs of rudeness to be adhered
Not on rocks that glisten
Harps to listen
Comb hair
Tear right to pieces
Left to recess a watery grave
Sensing the blood of prey
Swimming in fear for life
Rolling over
Teeth that chatter
It distracts them all
The Fiji mermaid
She will let it know
Time is coming to feed and knaw

Mastodon Megalodon Comments
that country riff is what made me love this song
Brann Dailor can flickety flam them drums. He gotsa little extra buttah on dem rolls.
Love listening to Brann playing drums he's fucking amazing
Damn, how have I never heard this? This song is way more intricate and interesting than Blood and Thunder and should be more well-known.
1:27 definition of metal
1:20 - ay, the beat go off? AY.
Honestly the best and most underrated song on the album in my opinion. Scene kids may love Blood And Thunder but Mastodon fans know this is where it's at.
@1:26 Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
1:20 so uhhhh, can I mosh now?
I had this CD many years ago, then I lost it !!!🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬😵😵😵😵
The intro to this song is one of the best intros i have ever heard. So dark, so fucking perfect. Maybe im the only one who feels that way being a drummer, but its absolutely fucking rad. I could listen to it on loop for a solid hour.
Se o heavy metal e o Jazz transassem, o filhote resultante seria o Mastodon
One song that feels like five.
Headbangerrrr
Some killer melodies in this one. The knack for sound these guys have is amazing.
Mastolodon
This needs to be in the credits on the MEG movie, not even joking.
Awsome!!!
My love for that intro arpeggio knows no limit.
Listened to this 10 times today now so my ears hurt even more..
Awesome...my ears hurt
I don't know where my comment went, but I'll fuckin' say it again:
1:20 that Southern riff, man
Awsome legendary sound that's is mastadon..saw them perform this live in Newcastle and sounds brill live ..wee do u begin to write sutch awsome an metal sound..other bands take note
the Most Brilliant Band in the World .These Guys BLEW my MIND !!!
Do they still do live shows?
What a song!!!
I really like the beginning
rolling over falling into juice
teas and chatter
make destructible
the friggin bullet
shemale let it know
time is coming to feed them all
Drums=nonsense badassery
Holy shitballs, listening to Once More 'Round the Sun and then this is insane. Both are fantastic !
welcome home(sanitarium)
Sensing the blood
of prey
Swimming in fear,
for life.
Did anyone else feel like moshing at 1:27
This is great, but that Live performance when Mr.Hinds has his throat infection, God that this so crazy and powerful.
gwar???????
If only they had sung like they do today, this would have been a killer track... But I know, a select group loves that then-trendy constipated ogre sound of the early 2000s in heavy metal.
music for diablo
Love how there music goes perfectly with there art work
Tyler is Hyper their*
Tyler is Hyper same
I've recently seen a lot of people calling mastodon metalcore. Never really thought of em as that
Not a big fan of this band but this song kills
The Red Baron, Oblivion, Curl of The Burl, Stargasm, Colony of Birchmen, Sleeping Giant, Iron Tusk, Hearts Alive, Blood and Thunder, Trainwreck, Work Jorse, and March of the Fire Ants. All of which are just complete masterpieces alone. But, these albums each say a whole lot. I love how they separate their albums in aural elements and give each a different back story and structure.
I like to imagine that Mastodon recorded this album on a pirate ship in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle during a hurricane.
How does this even have dislikes tho
Fuck metallica, lets roll another joint
38 people havent listened to the riff that starts at 1:18
2:25 i came
That riff is so insane. My favorite part of this song
Goddamn I love that outro riff so much
1:26 breaking all kinds of road laws.
reminds me a little of Oblivion
Or divinations
37 cunts rest in the deep
Favorite Mastodon song
Other than Blood Mountain, yh. Btw, the whole album.
and this album has a ton of great ones on it so, to agree and say this is the best one is a stretch. but the banjo lick straight into metallica-esque jamming is epic!!
1.20 Has there ever been more unexpected notes in metal music? Love it.
What's cool is Brent Hinds first instrument was the banjo and it clearly shows in his playing style.
tom tucker they're a bunch of southern metal hillbillies, which makes this all the more awesome
tom tucker bran is from ny lol
"Here be Banjo's"
kennyalwaysdies
Troy Sanders is the only one from Atlanta, Brann and Bill are from NY, with Bill having dual citizenship with Ireland, and Brent is from Alabama. But they've collectively been an Atlanta band from the get-go, definitely strong southern roots
I'm a guitarist, but I absolutely love the drums in the intro of this song. One of my all-time favorites
Drummer here and same! Been my favorite intro for many years.
I actually made that into a little over 5 minutes on a loop, when i first heard it, played it through my headphones and played it hundreds of times because its dark, and has alot of emotion. Plus, the fills are fucking perfect, and its just an amazing jam flow off the top of the head im sure he just thought up jamming one day.
la vida es más bonita con esta canción :')
34 people were slain by the mighty beast megalodon. Their friends and family dislike this song in their honor.
This is really good. Lots of people say this is progressive sludge metal, but I feel like they are other elements such as thrash metal in it. Anyways good stuff.
+Wesley Jakesta Nah remission was pretty much pure sludge
Robot Icecream Sandwich I don't think so, to me it's progressive heavy metal.
Wesley Jakesta Whole thing is sorta subjective I suppose. but I don't hear any prog in remission
Robot Icecream Sandwich not even in O'le Nessie?
Well sludge is influenced by thrash all metal is in one way or another and hardcore as well
stom vilmpjw
Megalostodon
Megalostodathan
Mastogalodon
Masturbadon
Megaloviathanodon
Masturbador 😜👌
1:20 definitely made Aunt Lisa, off of OMRS
Nice catch. I only wish more bands spaced out riffs ten years apart.
MOBY DICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I met these guys right after leviathan was released, at bogarts in Cincinnati (cinci sucks hardcore, don't come here if you can avoid it). I asked where they came up with that sick bluegrass/country riff in this song and they laughed and said they smoked hella hahaha tru
+TJ Hooker So true...I studied nursing in school. If I'm not mistaken, his condition was an extremely rare one where bone tissue grows in places where it normally wouldn't be. If I heard right, he had a lot of mobility problems because his spine and ribcage started fusing together
+Whythered Graveflower yes he had a rare bone condition that sadly still persists today. The bones callous and over grow
+TJ Hooker monssuare do you have kik? I would like to talk further.
+TJ Hooker no, I do not have kik... but I just made my new fb page under the same name, whythered graveflower
+TJ Hooker Have you heard the song Oblivion by them? (I'm sure you have) One of my faves.
yo, i never realized that transition DOES sound like Sanitarium!!! but i wouldn't call it a ripoff as much as tribute. so its ok in my book.
1:27 sounds like their newer song "Halloween" but a spit ton better
1:38 Total (Welcome Home) Sanitarium Rip lol.
+B Real the similarities are very evident... these guys made it even more sick though
RIP Metal Licka.
tribute
3:08 seek and destroy
@Federico Caputo good call
The good Lord doesn't even know why He gave 31 people ears.
Well, he gave most 2, so it's more comprehensivable.
At 1:28, that riff sounds like a shark is swimming after you👿😈\m/
@CrusaderGundam I was there too. I thought Trivium was amazing that night. As well as Judas Priest. Fucking Knottfest!
FUCK YEAH
saw these guys live opening for judas priest. they started strong but went on way way too long and it got shitty.
Lol I would just go to see mastodon and leave wen Judas Priest come on lol
+Doctor Doom I went to see Graveyard open up for Mastodon and Clutch...I left. before Clutch even had a chance to get on stage!!! 😂😂😂
+Doctor Doom Leave when Judas Priest comes on? Damn, you're a deaf close minded bitch
Then you missed the best part of the show. Both the guys from Graveyard and Mastodon would agree.
Best riffage ever..
The south lives inside this song!!!
+Νεοκλής Παπαδόπουλος Yup.
WOW WITH THIS!
Rolling over
Falling into jaws
Teeth that chatter
It distracts them all
The Fiji mermaid
She will let it know
Time is coming to feed and knaw
mother, fucker
aaron those lyrics have stuck with me for 12 years. So bloody vivid.
1:26 horse chase music
Leviathan!!!!!
to the people pointing out that the riff sounds like metallica go listen to helena by misfits ahahah
I thought the same thing lol.
Helena is younger than Metallica's songs.
Tokuro Sakayama bill said that he was a misfits fan
Tokuro Sakayama i bet you will find funny the fact that welcome home was written nearly 15 years before Helena...
Wrong! Thanks for playing!
666 comments (well im 667) :P
so much better than metallica guys,
Beacuse they're no rules to that.
Metallica are the straight laced goody-two shoes of metal
I mean, of metal... so there's that.
Exactly man, i was here trying to look for someone who thought this. The mid riff is totally a Welcome home rip off. Or kinda tribute maybe.not coincidence anyway.imho
Yeah that's why they had to lift a riff from Sanitarium lol
@Martin Hoehne Be cautious when throwing around those words rip and off next to each other. Music is broad and overlap is impossible to avoid.
everything after blood mountain just isn't mastodon to me
Abyss music
damn I don't even listen to rock or metal but this is the shit
If you start in the rock/metal with Mastodon, you're definitely starting with the right foot.
Then start listening to rock and metal cause u find more awesome shit :)
Next is Tool and Deftones
For me , Metal and Hard Rock was Just DEAD ......Then came the MASTODON and Changed Everything ...the BEST Sounding Prog MEtal Sludge Band in the Universe .
One of the Best Bands of All times .
The riff at 1:27 sounds like a sped up version of a riff in the Metallica song (welcome home) Sanitarium
well man you compare lars to brann dailor and kirk hammet to brent hinds?
Metallica are great but you have to be on a different level to write this
Mastodon shits on metallica, just drums alone
I love Mastodon but anyone that thinks they are better than Metallica are kidding themselves
Listen to 'Hearts Alive'. The intro on that sounds like Metallica's 'Welcome Home (Sanitarium)'.
when i listened to this song for the first time i was at 1.22 like "dafuq?..." then at "1.26,holy shit!!!"best bridge i've ever heard in my life, hands down
i'd fuck up a great white, to this song. bring it on
Id fuck up existence
paddy davis A great white maybe...but a Megalodon ???
Better bring your Iron Tusk
The Fiji Mermaid, she will let you know.
1:20 dat random country lick and BOOM
im not into metal but this song is fucking dope yo
@benjamin.ocean I get the exact same feeling with all their songs. I'm not into Metal but this is the only Metal band that actually affected me and now they're one of my favourite bands :D
Totally! they've actually turned me into /had me curious to metal and the genre itself. Like maybe there's more to this than people say !
If youre refering to metal than yes trust me theres a lot more to it than people say. Its not easy finding good quality stuff in a sea of bands trying to make it big but youll find good stuff and you wont be disappointed.
If you guys like them listen to a band called "All or Nothing" /watch?v=u9xX3MSJw98
1:27 Metallica-Welcome home sanitarium
exactly, still an awesome song tho
This actually makes a better use of that riff in my opinion
0:41 \m/
This was one of the best songs I've ever heard live by Mastodon.
Good, very cool!
1:27 guves.me goosebumps man. So fucking epic.
@Ordo and Khao i thought i was the only one who thought that!!! Im happy metal isnt really famous for that exact reason.
2:50, so much swag.
1:20 And on will be my ringtone.
ya that one part chugs along like welcome home sanitarium. lol
0:24 one of my favorite riffs of all time
At 1:20 I just imagine Brent looking around all confused for a second like "This was where this was going... Right?"
Exactly, even sometimes his live solos display that chicken picking at its best.
Axel Alvarez not exactly chicken picking.. but definitely hybrid picking!
Gotta love chicken picking.
simplethunder dude, that’s the most awesome shit I’ve ever heard in a metal song. Brent can write really funny country riffs and implement them in Mastodon songs so perfectly! That riff always puts a smile on my face!
1:20 the only reason I still listen to this song all the time lol
0:00 - 4:22 is the only reason I still listen to this song all the time lol
