Mastodon - Aunt Lisa Lyrics

I don't see the fearsome fright
all I see is beauty shine
not much time to say goodnight
I can hear you scream in the sky

Nephew do you feel all right
always up in overdrive
they would try to smother you
never let your feelings through

Live out loud

I'm sniffing your garden
I'm sniffing your rose
she's stuck in the middle
you know how it goes

They're crawling across now
they'll give him some blow
we'll do him a favor
we'll give him some gold

I remember your eyes came out
I can see you run and shout
don't know where to place the blame
you knew how to hide your pain

We just want to see you alive
taught me how to speak my mind
release you in atmosphere
it was just too small in here

Live out loud

Hey ho, let's fucking go
hey ho, let's get up and rock n' roll

Mastodon Aunt Lisa Comments
  1. T.... ....

feel like the instrumental transition at 1:49 but the vocals came in at the wrong time i feel, maybe the wrong vocal pitch

  2. d.... ....

The whole song carries a Faith No More vibe. From the drumming groove, the high pitched screams, the guitar riffs are very King For A Day-ish and the cheerleader shouts at the end are as "Be Aggressive" as it gets.

  3. 5.... 0....

Braan's vocals in this are just, oh jesus, the best

  4. O.... A....

Lovely drumming on this one, witch hunting vocals, just boneemerging like the most of productions of this fabolous band!

  5. r.... o....

    awesome band bicycle hill music

  6. j.... ....

1:20 part ruined the song. That guy should let the other dude sing. He sounds like he's trying to squeeze a turd out whilst singing.

  7. P.... M....

    Hey! Hoe! Let's FUCKING GO!

  8. M.... T....

That guitar outro melts my face.

  9. R.... ....

idk how the hell Brann Dailor can sing and drum at the same time in 7/8 time and always nail it but it never fails to impress me

    R.... ....

Have you seen him do it live? It's not terrible but it ain't great either.

    R.... ....

    @Eddie Garcia
He's gotten a lot better with his breath control lately.
I saw them live back in May 2019, and Brann was nailing his harmonies.

  10. g.... ....

The song as a whole is whatever, but the ending is incredible.

  11. F.... Q....

Best band of the modern era

  12. m.... ....

    Coathangers<3

  13. R.... ....

Lol! DIdn't know people were so divided on the ending of this song. Personally, I like it.

  14. a.... ....

that sad moment you realise you have a censored version of the song on your computer ._.

  15. A.... ....

Instant way to star an argument among a group of Mastodon fans: ask them if they like the cheerleader chant part.

  16. D.... ....

Anybody know the indistinguishable bit Brent sings before the chanting? He says 'live on adrenaline', I think.

  17. C.... T....

    3:02? Huh?

  18. P.... G....

Dude what is he screaming before he says Live out loud, I cant find it anywhere and it's driving me crazy.

  19. C.... ....

I'll never get over that chant

  20. g.... ....

Seriously people. Who gives a fuck?

  21. G.... G....

wtf the girls voice at the end... i dont know i think they're horrible but at the same time i think i like them...

    G.... G....

They're The Coathangers, another Atlanta band.

  22. a.... ....

The most badass aunt in the world

    a.... ....

Aunt Lisa and Granny Lucretia...what a family!

  23. B.... ....

When I first heard the chants near the end of the song, I imagined the band siting around a table, and being like,
we need some chanting in this song, but instead of making it sound cool, or inovative like faith no more did with the cheerleaders in "be agressive"; how about we get some choir girls singing "let's get up, & rock' n' roll" in the most lifeless way possible?
Then after they record it Troy, Brann, Bill& Brent looking at each other as they are about to say "best fucking idea ever."

    B.... ....

The Coathangers are a female punk band who write songs about nestling in their tits. They're named after a clandestine abortion tool. Choir girls they are not.

    B.... ....

Ben McCann thank you for the correction.

    B.... ....

Eh, I think it's pretty cool anyway. Get angry at light hearted fun says more about the angry person than the band.

    B.... ....

Ben McCann I thought the coathangers called themselves that as a joke that they're all hung up...

    B.... ....

@Philly #1 Coffee Snob Not at all, that's why the drummer is called Rusty coathanger (yes imagine), guitarist Crook kid Coathanger and the bassist Minnie Coathanger (it's ok this one )

  24. D.... L....

@2:52 I made this marker to listen to over and over...

    D.... L....

    high point of the song

    D.... L....

I still do not turn off the A / B

  25. m.... ....

I like the drumming on this track.

  26. N.... C....

    2:34 King Crimson.

  27. B.... ....

    Badass pump up song

  28. a.... c....

    Chino??

  29. A.... S....

    So deftoned this song <3

    A.... S....

+Marcus Tarriga Gomes I think he's saying this song is reminiscent of some Deftones material, an American band from Sacramento, CA.

  30. B.... A....

Lets get up and rock and roll lml!!!!

  31. M.... S....

ruined by that ridiculously gay chant at the end

    M.... S....

+Matt Shea Seems the ending is not the only gay one

    M.... S....

+Appie Kalaç yeah half the album is as well go fuck yourself

    M.... S....

+Matt Shea Hahahahahaha, holy shit you got fucking destroyed. Has your ass healed from that reaming yet? Well, I guess you've built up a tolerance by now.

    M.... S....

    +fourcrippledhorses you're right total pwnage

  32. B.... ....

    Who would dislike

    B.... ....

    Communists.

  33. C.... ....

Wow, Aunt Lisa by - Mastod
    on!

  34. S.... ....

Reminds me of QOTSA, great song :))

    S.... ....

    the singing especially

  35. s.... ....

What a great song. With that weird feeling when on 3:25 Mastodon cosplays Manson. ))

    s.... ....

    +Dark Schneider exactly my friend

  36. C.... H....

    Hey Ho, let's fucking cum!

  37. J.... D....

holy shit brann has an incredible voice!

    J.... D....

@Bad Boy Bubby that might be Brann Dailor (the drummer) you're thinking of..?

    J.... D....

    I said Brann...didnt I?

    J.... D....

+Bad Boy Bubby yeah I agree his voice is pretty freaking epic, especially with the type of music they do

  38. K.... ....

The song is about the drummer's aunt who passed away of cancer. Apparently she was a very lively person full of craziness, so every thing you may find strange about the song, like the shouting part, actually makes a lot of sense if you consider it as reflecting her personality.

    K.... ....

Brann Dailor is fucking amazing. It's just sad, in a way, that so much brilliance is inspired by such tragic things.

    K.... ....

Karl I thought the song was about when Brann was on drugs in the past and the lyrics were what she said to him

    K.... ....

That somehow makes the ending kinda badass

    K.... ....

Well fuck dude what about my ass That's what it's all about ain't it. I feel as though you been cheating on me. So Oh my God husband is dead. A black widows Vail I shall where

    K.... ....

This clarifies the song for me, though to my ears it's not pleasing. Maybe a change in the key it's in could make it interesting to me, similarly speaking to how certain covers of popular songs have been rerecorded with different tunings. Youtube channel Rudie Obias has a cover of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit which correctly demonstrates what I'm referring to. Aunt Lisa is not a song I enjoyed off Once More, but it's the tail end of that arrow they fired from atop Blood Mountain while tripping out one night.

  39. B.... K....

What the actual fuck were they thinking with that chant?, the song rules up until that point and it completely ruins it.

    B.... K....

You don't like it?  I  think the vocal harmonies fading out, with the drum roll, is an amazing segue to the cheerleaders (i picture the chant done by heavy metal cheerleaders ).   That moment is like a stress release, sort of a floodgate giving way to a deluge of water.

    B.... K....

jas22 not cheerleaders. it's the coathangers, another atlanta band

  40. D.... D....

one of my fav songs from omrts!

  41. t.... ....

    Song is so sic..

  42. r.... s....

The part at 2:50 reminds me a lot of that reoccurring riff in "King for a Day" by Faith No More.

    r.... s....

    Love that album.

    r.... s....

And the end is clearly inspired by '' Be agressive"

  43. N.... ....

definitely the best song on the record, has that real Mastodon sense of adventure the rest is lacking

    N.... ....

I think the rest of the record is solid but this is the standout for me also.

  44. B.... H....

The chanting at the end ruins an otherwise respectable (albeit, scattered) song in my opinion. Nonetheless, I'd love to shout out, "HEY! HO! LETS FUCKING GO!" at a concert. Can't wait to see these guys perform this album live.

    B.... H....

@Brandon Herndon I saw them two days ago. I waited MONTHS for this. It was a great time (with Clutch and a band called Graveyard). I loved it but was a little disappointed, though - no "Aunt Lisa", and no "The Motherload". Did you end up seeing Mastodon, and did they do this song?
I don't know, I sort of got the feeling it was rushed and they weren't into it as much. But maybe they were tired by then from touring. Definitely glad I went, though.

    B.... H....

@ghoawaynetcabo our show did not get "Aunt Lisa"! :(

    B.... H....

@Jonathan Faron I love the guitar licks underneath the chants.

    B.... H....

I was at that show also. It kicked ass

    B.... H....

@blair henley Only pussies use the word "hater"

  45. J.... G....

MAN THIS SONG, AND THE WHOLE ALBUM IS EPIC! BRILLIANT !
