Mason, Dave - World In Changes Lyrics

Things could be lazy
If they weren't so crazy
And I wasn't following you
Running in circles
Won't find me no purpose
It's right here with you and what I do

Changes of season
Aren't nearly as pleasing
As watching the changes in you
Turn for in new day
In search of a new way
But are you sure that it will do

World in changes still going through
I've got a lot to learn about you
World in changes still coming through
You've got a lot to learn about me too
You've got a lot to learn about me too

I said the world nearly see
What you really mean to me
I'll tell the truth cause I can't pretend
Find yourself a real friend
And then you nearly reach the end
Of all of this running round we do

World in changes still going through
I've got a lot to learn about you
World in changes still coming through
You've got a lot to learn about me too...

The B-3 solo starting @ 3:16 is probably among my favorites EVER!

  3. c.... m....

This was a standard must have in one's collection maybe a bridge sorts between Traffic and CSN Traffic getting spacier and far out and DM acoustic and electric guitars blended perfectly.Pearly Queen, and Mr.Headkeeper, dope man, yes, good stuff!

  4. D.... W....

Still evokes the magic of the time. Thank you God for putting me on this earth for this era of music.

World In Changes’ is a great song, acoustic layered guitars build under Dave’s vocal and the track brings out the best in the musicians – so tight and together. Russell’s organ underpins the whole track and he’s allowed a great solo towards the end of the song.

    Love this song
I think of my days surfing, bud and Life. It goes fast!!!

Dave Mason - if you read this comment please forgive me? My best memory of you coming to UC Irvine. My 7 or 8 friends all had tickets. I didn't. We bunched up the stack of tickets and I walked into the venue with my friends. The ticket guy didn't count us or the tickets.

    D.... V....

I'm sure he would forgive you

    Have this on 45.

Pretty much all through my teenage years, I lived, ate, slept and breathed Dave Mason. My brother had the marble vinyl album and I used to sit, all night and sing along with him. At about 2 or 3 am my mom would poke her head in and yell at me to go to bed (school night)! haha I didn't care. I don't know how she put up with me! But all those bands--not just Dave Mason--had me wrapped around their finger. They were SO good, most of them. They were original and the music was their OWN. It wasn't all slicked up, no drum machines, nothing like that. And back in the days when you actually had to perform the music in the studio (rather than sing one chorus and then fly it over in the studio to the other three choruses, for example) there were charming mistakes and missteps that happened that just added to the intimacy so much. Todd Rundgren's "You Left Me Sore" is an example of that. Also, on The Band's "The Weight," you can hear that foot tapping on the wooden floor..."and and and you put the load, you put the load right on me." Or Procol Harum's, "Is it on Tommy?"--right before "Nothing But the Truth" hit the first chords. It's a cliche to say it of course but they really DON'T make 'em like that anymore. I feel so lucky to have grown up with that wealth of talent right on my turntable and then to see these folks in concert was mindblowing. Those were the days. :)

Yes Holmes, the 60s were a spiritual Renaissance and these are the Dark Ages we are living through once again.I lived through that mofo too and became a guitarist so I could keep the spirit alive in me forever.Peace,love,happiness.

    Such memories with this...

  13. T.... ....

    Absolutely a timeless masterpiece....

  14. J.... L....

How can anyone give a thumbs down to this one. After all they came here to listen to this gem. Fat fingers? Stupidity? I dunno. People man, I don't get how they think sometimes.

  15. J.... N....

Love this song, it was playing in my head and had to hear it again. wow world in change...

  16. t.... ....

Got this album in 71. What a great year it was for music. Being a Traffic fan, it was really nice to have this disc. Saw Mason at Mountain Ayre in the Motherlode. Those were the good ole days.

  17. R.... C....

Nearly, then the world changed. One of the first songs Bobby Lloyd Hicks and Arthur Duncan instructed me on someone will be severely Missed while I don't have an ounce or millimeter of influence

  18. B.... V....

Saw Dave Mason at UVM in Burlington, Vermont in 1976 - SO GREAT! Certified Live Album bought the next day. At concert he spoke of his son True Mason.

  25. l.... r....

    Love it!

  26. n.... ....

Im with Ham Star and Thundergod129 ( at the very least, not to ignore others here) on this one, this album is a true masterpiece. Discover it. You cannot go wrong ! Remembering this song in particular from long ago, and the deep bond Ive had to it all these decades. "Music will never disappoint you". Indeed.

    n.... ....

Dave Mason is actually on tour right now. The tour is "Alone Together Again". He and his band are playing the whole album and then a whole batch of other greatest hits. I'm seeing him here in Ithaca, NY, on November 4th. Can't wait!!

    n.... ....

Ken Harris how was the concert? My best friend of almost 40 years are going to see him in Milwaukee in a couple of months. I've known her since I was a senior in high school. She was also my roommate in my early 20s. We had DM music on the turnable all of the time. I remember drinking gallons of wine, listening to DM trying to solve our boyfriend woes. I don't think that we ever did, but we sure had fun!

    n.... ....

It was outstanding. He played the entire Alone Together album in track order (I'm also a "side one/side two" vinyl guy) and it was fantastic hearing that beautiful intro to Shouldn't Have Took More Than You Gave...He signed tshirts after the show and I got to shake his hand! What a thrill! I'll still be talking about this when I'm in line at the AARP enrollment office. Try to see him if you can...:)

    n.... ....

Ken Harris I am going to the DM concert in Milwaukee in April with my best friend.  I read back my last post to you and realized that I didn't say that I was going to see Dave Mason along with my best friend.  I just said that she was going, oops.  I may have had a couple of glasses of wine while posting.  I can't wait.  I'll let you know how the concert was in April.

    yes - mine also, because...

    Bill Sampson because. .....?

    D.... W....

  31. M.... K....

One of my favorite songs.  An underrated masterpiece.

    M.... K....

    Mark Kelly me too :)

  32. H.... S....

I still have my marbled vinyl record of this album. One of the best albums of the era, every song is perfect. The music of this time evokes in me a wistful, almost gut-wrenching nostalgia. It was a fun time and great era for music.

    H.... S....

@Madeleine Hague That's Steve playing the organ here

    H.... S....

fuck dude , all i can say is me too . when I bought the marbled vinyl i wanted to but as many as i could but instead i started collecting all colored vinyl and pix disc . peace, my vinyl junkie

    H.... S....

I lost my original album bought the CD with no classic vinyl cover bummer

    H.... S....

My uncle thought swing era jazz was all that. Of course he was young during that time. Same with this music- great times and great music. No doubt, we were young and having fun and this is the music on the scene at that time. Then there are people who love Beethoven or Mozart. Mason was a great songwriter and his years with Traffic were the band's best years.

    H.... S....

I have that album, marbleized and well played. Sharing this right NOW on FB. Heck yeah, this is one my all time favorite albums.

  33. j.... D....

this still kills what happened to music? We who were there are blessed, this was prime time for art.

  34. S.... T....

Mendocino County, the coast road, summer of '73, and a piece of shit VW camper with a great sound system. My, that was a fast 40 years!

    S.... T....

God this is a good song.  Tim you are right, 40 years just flew by.  We were so lucky to be young when this music was the norm.  Such great music in the 70s.  When you think about the concerts that we were able to see, it was astounding.  I lived in Chicago in the 70s and probably went to a concert almost every other week in 1978 and 79.   We saw the likes of Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones, Crosby/Stills/ and Nash, Dave Mason and so many more.  I don't think that I ever paid more than about $12 for a ticket.  Unbelievable!

    S.... T....

OMG you're so right. Nearly cried reading your post. Same sort of thoughts in my mind too. Damn.

    S.... T....

I was just there, at the Gen Store..10 days ago !! got some fresh Kosher OG Kush to bring home!!

@Gus classic rock channel Friends just saw him in LA, said he killed it!

  38. M.... ....

I know that people say this far to often, but for me (born in '60), the music of this generation had an absolute magical quality.  It was a remarkable time for music and this artist was one of those reasons.  In fact there was a quantity of quality bands coming out of the woodwork.  Sure we had the few bands that were forgettable, but hey, these guys had a learning curve. but hands down, we had such quality music hitting the airwaves on a nearly constant basis.  And so many of these bands had made their chosen musical paths and many never deviated from the path of putting out the best music they could.  People were so much kinder and respectful to each other back then as compared to todays youth ( I mean no offense to anyone's parenting skills} and it most certainly reflected on Youtube.   All you have to do is go to any video, current artists or one from our generation and read the comments people make to each other and in a moment or two, you can almost guarantee you can figure out which age group you are dealing with.    I love coming to "My Generations"  music video's.  With the exception of a few miserable people who want to share their misery, without fail it is a positive place to share your memories and stories about the songs without getting caught in someone's crosshairs.  The folks have an obvious respect for the artist, the music and the people within the forum. There is no fighting, tossing of personal insults and complete lack of respect.    I credit that to the generation in which we born and I'm proud to be a kind, respectful Dave Mason fan.   Listening to the memory filled music and reminiscing's of others stories is like comfort food.  If you had a bad day, come on back for a bite and you will feel better in no time.  Forgive me for the wordy comment:)

    M.... ....

Thank you for being a true music fan, Missdistarr...No apology needed!

    M.... ....

Wow. I have for quite a while, was trying to find this song which I have not heard on over 50 years. The other day, with only remembering a couple of words. finally, I knew it had something to do with Dave Mason. And succeeds. I found It!

I am pretty happy about that. In the 60s and 70s Dave was always kind in the background of many songs.Back in the Traffic days, he and the group made some outstanding songs. But it wasn,t until We Just Disagree came out ,( that was a MASTERPIECE), that he finaly came out on center stage.

Only You and I Know, The Lonely One, and other great songs.I remember seeing him play in San Francisco, near were I was brought up. I saw a lot of concerts in the San Francisco bay area. It was a great time to live there. I just wanted to tell someone that Dave Mason was great. This song brings back a lot of memories. Well that's it for now. To all of you, have a good night, and and have a good life. Peace be with you.....

    M.... ....

@david ewing I have a similar story with trying to find this song. I remembered "You've got a lot to learn about me too" was pretty sure it was Dave Mason but no one could help me not even Google. Then one day I was in a Borders Book store (remember Borders Books?) and they had a best of Dave Mason CD. Borders always had great music departments. Rushed out to my car played the CD and with a big smile knew my search had ended.

    M.... ....

MissDistarr Well Said. I’m here for a reason too. Worked for a lot of Record companies throughout the years. I have kids and listen to their music born in 1958 I grew up quick because of all the brothers and the music that they introduced me to it had meaning then the disc jockeys work just as important playing the songs but not today it’s in one ear and out the other. I remember my older brother buying this record so that has meaning itself.

    M.... ....

    Ya true enough, 👍🎼😘😇🙏💕❤

didnt even have this album till 1991..fold out cover/it was on swirly vinal..

One of my favs by Dave. He is so highly underrated. It came out the year that I graduated high school. Interesting note, Dave married a gal that graduated from my high school and was a member of my sisters graduating class of '75 and one of my best friends' sister. Long since divorced

    When Music had Meaning....

    b.... r....

Definitely we all did need to look deeper in our hearts when so much of the world problems and conflicts was the reason we needed changes, and mostly spiritually because mankind still lacks in acts of true showing and giving of that Love the Creator is always waiting for us to give in acts, (that is doing) ..1st Know HE created the families of every beautiful cow pig and chicken to naturally do their part in harmony in Gods Garden. Then we see the truth and awake up out of the darkness of the sin of the Tree of false knowledge . from the beginning. you can change to showing and doing your best .When the BEST 1 created us to be like His Son

We once had this album in Chagrin Falls,  Ohio . I really like to gaze at it when it was on the turn table. Really enjoy how the song rises and falls and the sound of the acoustic guitar and the wwwwhhh in the middle of the organ solo. God bless you all

  47. D.... J....

Brings back a flood of memories!!  God, What a Great song!!

  48. L.... L....

    so hot!! always dug him!
and yes you've got allot to learn!!!!!

  49. B.... S....

@1953taggie Interesting story about Mason. Tommy Lipuma, who produced this album, says Dave demanded an outrageous advance on his next studio album, and when he didn't get it, broke into the studio in the middle of the night and stole most of the master tapes for his upcoming album. Facing an eminent release date, and now missing most of the songs, Blue Thumb was forced to make half of the album live!

  50. J.... T....

@echo962 Totally agree. Amazing to make a really definitive album and really nothing of much consequence since. It's a great one though...

  51. t.... ....

Desert island pick.....oh yes! "All Things Must Pass" can tag along too.

  52. B.... S....

My favorite song from the classic "Alone Together." This is about as close to a perfect album as anyone ever produced! I think Dave "put all his eggs in one basket" though, because the subsequent music he produced in the late 70's is downright wretched.

  53. M.... ....

    !!! VERY VERY GOOD !!!

  54. 7.... ....

I wonder if those words are still on that rock he's standing in front of . Lot of years have pasted & still love listening to his older tunes. Thanks for the post.

  55. m.... ....

I love the album and this song in particular. Looking at the ol' marblized vinyl spinning on the turntable was likely to create dizziness, however. Split Coconut also has many great songs. Thanks for sharing some of the best music of the 70s. Those that think of it as the decade of disco simply weren't paying attention. There was a wide variety of styles, good and bad. I remember the good. Rock on!

  56. b.... ....

    Ahhh..........memories ~

  57. p.... ....

@stonegrooved i so agree. but not just dave mason also rod stewart, steve winwood, elton john and so many more great ones from the 60's and early 70's. i love vintage elton john and rod stewart but when they went pop i stopped listening to them. it's like flying first class and then flying coach.

  58. c.... ....

Linda, i hope your life turned out the way you wanted. I'm so fucking glad you left, I've been smiling ever since.

  59. H.... R....

@Silvertone54 I'm just one of Circe's Pigs being led around with a golden ring in me snout, but I loved this when it came out I "snatched" it up quick.

wormpiano, can you put up "Just a song"?

  61. I.... r....

    @madcitymcflyer
Great story! Happy memorial day to you and thanks for your service and sacrifice!
I've burned through several copies of this LP over the years. I play it so much they just wear out!

  62. m.... ....

Bought this album at the PX at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL at Christmas, 1970 to give to my brother. I was just back from Vietnam and had to spend two months at Redstone as an EOD instructor so I could finish out my hitch and go home for good. I cracked open the album so I could sneak a listen on my portable stereo. Saw that crazy marble-colored album, listened to all the songs and knew I was back in 'the world' once and for all. Got my brother something else and kept this one. Great tunes.

    m.... ....

    What a great story.

  63. j.... ....

    Saw him perform many times.

  64. s.... ....

Dave Mason, one of the great "unkowns" of all time. Only now, are people "discovering" how good a writer, composer, musician he really is.

  65. M.... L....

@jmon73 dorm music for me too, SIU iin Carbondale IL and remember how cool the album cover was, and my album was swirling colors of greys and pinks and really trippy.

  66. M.... L....

This album was so cool, it opened up and his hat would pop out the top and the album disc was swirling marbed earth tones, really trippy...back in the day..what a beatiful song and the album worked for me at 18

  67. D.... ....

@620NA Great Musician Writer , Drummer ;He is Missed !

  68. J.... ....

@Silvertone54 We wore the shit out of this LP when I was at the university. It was loved by all 6 of us (in our apartment) who lived together, and it rarely left the turntable.

  69. m.... ....

Great song. We played a festival together a few years ago. The late Jim Capaldi, the drummer from Traffic, was on the show, as well. True gentlemen and great musicians. Jim remembered me from before I was a professional musician.

  70. Y.... ....

Shit like this isn't written anymore. Masterful, beautiful era, captured by classics like Alone Together.

  71. M.... B....

Brings back a lot of memories. Thanks for sharing!

  74. j.... ....

Wow. Dorm music. 1973 fall Athens Ohio O.U. Fan and pillow in the window and good Jamacian reefer.

  75. Y.... K....

it would be in my top 5 for sure (40 yrs later)~

  76. Y.... K....

one of my most favorite albums ever !!! i had the 'marblelized' one till my sister loaned it to someone~grrrrrrr

  77. c.... b....

@77syzygy thats funny bro, I just got back from his show and had him sign my vinyl. I asked his tour manager the same question and he said that for the first quarter million records they just threw in a bunch of multi-colored vinyl scraps and it just happened. Amazing guy. Great group hes playing with now too.

  78. 6.... ....

There on the short list every one of 'em. My favorite and most influential players...Micky Waller....Baker...Mitch...Clive...Moon....they're playing is all so very alive somehow...unlike the modern players and stuff played to a grid.

    6.... ....

You can add Mike Kellie, Aynsley Dunbar, Bill Bruford, B.J. Wilson and John Bonham to that list.

  79. 6.... ....

Jim Capaldi is god.....I love his playing...sheez....I'm always blown away when i go back and listen to this stuff....it's so free.....

    6.... ....

Saw Jim Capaldi and Dave Mason last time they were in OKC, great concert! Actually met Jim Capaldi that night.

  80. t.... ....

I would love to get my hands on the vinyl (again). Dave Mason, what a great musician.

  81. D.... ....

Love it!! Have the CD and almost forgot about it even though it's one of my all time favorites. Thanks for posting!

  82. c.... a....

Dave wrote some good ones, his voice sounds sweet too.

  83. S.... ....

The best!! been a fan for years...have seen him 4 times...but been awhile ...takes me back to high school days

  84. G.... c....

Love this song man, well I am big time Dave Mason fan, wow what a rocker, thanks for uploading yes.
"You got a lot to learn about me too" Heyy!

  85. J.... ....

I've had music by him before but not this album. I used to really like his "Let It Flow" record from 1977. also his "It's Like You' Never Left" album (or something like that) with a great song called "Misty Morning Stranger" on it.

    Cheers,

    Joseph

  86. p.... f....

i think just like you, this is one of my favourites all times albums....its a master piece in my point of view...regards

  87. B.... B....

If I picked 10 albums from my album collection to take to a desert island, this would be one of them. A stunning album.

  88. K.... ....

Jim Gordon, Leon Russell, what's not to like? One of the great recordings from the 70's.

  89. w.... ....

joseph, i'm in the same boat as you. first heard of him in 1973. don't own any of his music til now as well.

  90. r.... ....

    Timeless music, I think.

  91. J.... ....

I've been aware of this album for almost 40 years, and here I am now sampling it here and at amazon, and I just bought it. I really like the sound of it. Can you believe I'm almost 40 years late?

  92. n.... ....

strong song - u should play this while driving up PCH to frisco.

  93. 7.... ....

Dave still tours extensively and sounds as good as ever. Catch him if you can.
This multi colored album was on the turntable, when the stereo I got for my high school graduation was stolen. Could only get the plain black one to replace it with.:(

  94. R.... ....

Ha! You too?! At first glance, I read it wrong; and, prepared to chastise...then...just happened to notice the "the"...barely in the nick of time!

Not just the lyrics: The whole album is the shit! It's a masterpiece...simply beautiful.

  95. B.... B....

I love this album. If I had to pick, say 25 LPs for a desert isle, 'Alone Together' would likely be one of them. Brings back memories of a wonderful time in music.
Thanks for posting this! Would love to see 'Look At You Look At Me' from this LP posted on YouTube! One of my all-time fave rock songs.

  96. w.... ....

I love this sing ... wow - these were the days!
