Mary Chapin Carpenter - Rhythm Of The Blues Lyrics

I can hear the rain come down, I can listen with my heart
I can see with both eyes closed in the dark
Sleep will come in just a while but till it does I choose
To listen to the rain, it's the rhythm of the blues

I walk along these streets of home that once belonged to us
And now baby I walk alone and I am lost
In the sound of my own footsteps on the avenues
I guess I'm only walking to rhythm of the blues

I don't wanna hear another word spoken, I don't wanna see another tear shed
I can't seem to fix what's broken, like this record baby in my head

Lonely looks as bad on me as lonely looks on you
And still we keep on moving to the rhythm of the blues

I want a place to call my own, where you have never been
I wanna look around and know you won't be coming back again
On some pretense paper-thin that I can see right through
You come and go baby, like the rhythm of the blues
You come and go baby, like the rhythm of the blues
You come and go baby, like the rhythm of the blues...

  4. J.... G....

I think this is actually a Roseanne Cash composition. But MCC is great, and this was her magnum opus.

I bought a CD at a garage sale, Mary Chapin Carpenter. From the moment I heard this song, I was in Love, with her, her music, her poetry. She is absolutely brillant.

  14. M.... G....

This was the song that made me Chapin's fan forever. I so deeply empathize with her lyrics. I'm disappointed that she still does not have mainstream success, but I am glad she had success with the general public at all. I am so thankful that Nashville thought highly enough of her to elect her to the Nashville Songwriter's Hall of Fame. So richly deserved.

Ever listen to Carlene Carters rendition of Unbreakable Heart? you might want to get out your pen and list ...

  16. p.... l....

Used to go see her at the twist and shout in Bethesda Md before she made it big, what a treat that was, she deserves all her fame as one of Americas premier songwriters, it was songs like this that were the key for that, Her guitar work along with John Jennings were as good as it can be, Hats off for the hometown girl..,
