Mary Chapin Carpenter - My Heaven Lyrics

Nothing shatters
Nothing brakes
Nothing hurts
Nothing aches
We got ourself one hell of a place

In my heaven

Looking down at the world below
A bunch of wine
Fighting schmoos
Up here we got none of those

In my heaven

Theres pools and lakes and hills and mountains
Music, art, lighted fountains
Who needs bucks here, no ones counting

In my heaven

No one works, we all just play
You can pick the weather everyday
And if you change your mind thats ok

In my heaven

Grandmas up here grandpa too
In a condo with "to die for" view
There's president and movie stars
You just come as you are

No one's lost and no one's missing
No more partings, just hugs and kissing
And all these stars are just for wishing

In my heaven

Theres little white lights every where
Your childhood dog in dads old chair
And more memorys than then my heart can hold
Leave us singing fields of gold
Theres neighbors, theives and long lost lovers
Villians, poets, kings and mothers
Up here we forgive each other

In my heaven

For every soul thats down there waiting
Holding on still hesitating
We say a prayer of levitating

In my heaven

You can look back on your life and lot
It can't matter what your not
By the time your here were all we've got

In my heaven
In my heaven
In my heaven

Beautiful song and I am glad I found it. It goes so well with 10,000 miles which is one of the most inspirational songs I have ever heard. Yes, there is a God and He is our Father and some day we will be with Him and our Savior and our families... worlds without end.

  35. Brock R

When Eva's singing fields of gold. Now that's heaven, Eva singing anything.

    Dona Luna

Brock R Apples & Oranges , comparisons are not possible . Both stand heads above others , but due to not fitting in a billboard box , they are not mainstream
Uniqueness is like that , : not 2 stars ⭐️ nor ❄️ snowflake alike .
    Blessings & Peace ,

  36. Chris Walker

As a funeral director in the uk people always ask me for some input on music when the curtains close at the service at the crematorium. This is always my first recommendation, the line we look back at our life and lot it, cant matter what we are not. Sums it up really.

  37. Greg 121

Greatness seems not enough.  Thank you

  38. Karen Lm

Some artists are too cool to gush over because it would ruin why you love their work so much. But I will say she remains the few singer-songwriters I would buy a record if that is how she sold it. Her voice adds a certain gentleness and strength to what ever moment you listen to her.

  39. sigraviovio

C'est bizarre:) la tienne j'ai grandi avec:).... y'a des trucs comme ça que t'as Ecoute 1000 fois dans ta vie :)....

Maravillosa voz, linda canción y formidable y bella mujer, grande Mary Chapin Carpenter.

  43. Norman Clucas

You cannot possibly have a bad word to say about this beautiful song and person

    Fred Herndon

@Norman Clucas Really? Isn't she kinda brutal "buncha whining fighting schmo's?" Isn't that kinda harsh? I don't say that against Ms. Carpenter, I would put this song up there a notch below her masterwork, "Grand Central Station" I do want gramma and grandpa up there too with a condo with to-die-for views. I appreciate so much her deconstructing heaven and replacing it with something something worthy of the concept-- more memories than her heart can hold, and Eva... Yeah, heartbreakingly beautiful. But that no one can find fault? No, not this side of heaven

    Norman Clucas

    I agree

  70. edoko63

this was a song that MCC wrote in response to the book Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold.

    crydun2004

I remember reading that in the liner notes. loved that book. and the movie too

  71. RecSportWorld

Love the line "a bunch of wine, fighting schmo's". To bad we can't get past that.

  72. Dan Dumas

    excellent!!!

  73. badleeroy

A very good song. I looked for this because I had heard she mentions Eva Cassidy in it singing "fields of gold". If you haven't heard her sing it, even Sting said it was amazing.

  74. Vincent Hughes

This song is based on the book by Alice Sebold, The Lovely Bones. It is coming out as a movie by Peter Jackson in Dec 2009 but if you haven't read the book, then do yourself a favour and do so. Mary Chapin Carpenter is just awesome for writing this song.
