Marvin Gaye - Yesterday Lyrics
Oh, yesterday
All my troubles seemed so far away
Now, I need a place to hide away
Oh, I, I believe in yesterday
People I ain't half the man I used to be, no
There's a heavy, heavy shadow hanging over me
Yesterday, came all too suddenly
Oh, why did she have to go?
I don't know
Tell you, I don't know
The little girl wouldn't say
I must have, must have said something wrong
Oh, talkin' about yesterday
Love, love, love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Lord I, I believe now, in yesterday, oh
Well I must have said something wrong
Now I long, long for yesterday
Yesterday
All my troubles seemed so far away
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh, I, I believe in, I want you to know I believe in
Yester, yester, yesterday

Marvin Gaye Yesterday Comments
from Colbert.....wonderful version of yesterday!
I think Yesterday song is no 1 popular song
After hearing Donny Hathaway's cover first I can't even consider this, it sounds like it has something missing.
Marvin Gaye gets a pass for changing lyrics from "I said something wrong" to "must have said something wrong" as McCartney said those three guys did not cop to what was really said.. not "must have" Lol. However, per McCartney Sinatra and Elvis also said "must have said something wrong". I listened to several of their versions and at least on those, neither Elvis or Sinatra said "must have said" At all the levels those three are, they get passes to sing it any way they wish.
Amazing performance but this is not Yesterday, the Melody is the core of a song and when you change so much the intervals between the notes the core is lost.
q merda
I could listen to this over and over...oh wait I am!
Oh, yesterday
All my troubles seemed so far away

Why does this fee like an entity of its own. Its so smooth and flowing youd never know it was originally a beatles song if you never heard of it
Paul was so right about this one - very nice, Mr. Marvin Gaye!.
Marvin Gaye is the GOAT RIP
awesome rendition
God I miss him. What a beautiful voice and proforma gives the song yesterday a soulful vibe.
Christine auzanne It's just magnificent version of Yesterday!I'm agree with Paul Mc Cartney.
Who the hell is Stephen colbert
Love this! I just heard this song on the PBS documentary of Marvin Gaye. YES!!!
after watching from Colbert..
Comparing Donny vs Marvin. I’d say Donny has more emotion and pain to his singing. But Marvin has more spirit and hope.
But remember one thing this has is a strong background Orchestra. Where Donny has a band
But I love both, personally give a slight edge to Donny
This guy isn’t half bad.
hehe but paul also said he's not owning up cuz he said "I must've said something wrong" instead of "I said something wrong" lolol
Great song
I like his rendition
One of the Greatest Crooners that ever lived. Fantastic singer, Fantastic voice. Miss u Marve, you'd have been 80 years old now, and could have just been hanging up your boots - look at Tony Bennett.
I love Marvin Gaye. What heart!
dont like the man, but what a voice, amazing
sing it marvin!🧡
Leave it to Marvin to put even more soul Into that song…

Useless work
Paul McCartney detected this good shit
I heard McCartney say on the late show that this is the best yesterday cover.
Wow 😲 l love this cover of yesterday, no wonder the Beatles loved Motown.
Rest In Peace Marvin 🙏🏻
Colbert...
Lord im crying out from deep with in. this is hitting me hard. so beautiful and fulfilling to the spirit. r.i.p brother marvin..... beautiful soul indeed who was blessed by the most high.
This version is great, but I prefer Ray Charles's cover.
My favourite cover too ,sir McCartney.
Heaven. Thanks Paul McCartney to bring me here ♡.
Way too overacted, trying to inject way too much feeling into every single word, and it comes out feeling fake, and completely loses the sentiment of the original.
oh my lord this is as good as the original
Paul was right, this is a beautiful cover
I can’t believe this is first time I’m hearing this cover.. Thanks Sir Paul for the recommendation
Recommendation level: Sir Paul McCartney
The Beatles gave this song life, Marvin Gaye gave it a soul.
I wonder if McCartney ever heard Claudio Villa's version. Anyway this might be the best cover, but the original is the unsurpassed version.
The correct answer was "We can work it out" by Stevie Wonder.
He has changed the words even left some words out completely but it still sounds great. but its not my favourite cover of the song.
It is a nice version! Paul McCartney commented on Colbert show that it's his fav cover
It was true what Paul said: they all changed the "I said something wrong" to "I must've said something wrong" haha
Beautiful
Marvin Gaye, can sing anything. The soul and emotion in his voice just brings a new vibe to any song he sings....what a legend.
Damn Marvin Gaye's father. Just damn him.
It wasn't his father's fault. Marvin (RIP) was on drugs and attacked him.
Good biography of Marvin "Trouble Man"
As a devoted Beatles fan and a Paul fan especially, I saw the Colbert show last night and heard Paul say that this was his favorite cover of the song. I didn't know Marvin had done this and now I see why Paul said that this was his fave.
Who’s here from Colbert?
Me too!
Me too!!
Luka 1234 me
Paul McCartney said this is his favorite cover version - again, in the Colbert show
It cant beat Ray Charles.
@CastleMr40 I can actually since Paul said it.
damn.. how did I miss this?
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert brought me here 9-24-19 because Paul McCartney said this is his favorite cover. Didn't even know Marvin sang this. That man (my neighbor) was an amazing singer!
@Edwin Otero actually he only said Sinatra, Marvin, and Elvis changed the words, not 'none of the top 10 covers'
ElusiaBoomkin yeah, you’re right. I mixed up the words. Thanks for the clarification
i never knew he covered this song... its brilliant
KeeperOfThe10 thank you for the explanation. Had no idea what was goin on
Donny Hathaway's version is the definitive rendition of the song, he delivered the song with so much soul and the vocals we're straight whistles from Jesus.
McCartney says this is his favorite cover
Linda versão❤
Absolutely beautiful .
Marvin just brings the tears out in me here. Such an emotive voice, simply beautiful
But he bodied this song ❤️
I love you but Donny got this one
Sure, the best Yesterday.
What is most striking about Marvin Gaye's work was his ability to reinvent classic songs and make them almost always even better than the original versions.
Ruffin and Gaye gave splendid versions of this classic.
Beautiful
Marvin Gaye is a legend.
Hay 35 bestias que esto no les puede gustar INCREIBLE!
Yesterday's are real woke again listening to my favorite Marvin Gaye oldies different message in every song everyday life
I'll take Marvin's arrangement but Donny Hathaway's voice.
