Marvin Gaye - Sweeter As The Days Go By Lyrics

Oh you've got a smile like a sweet lovin' angel, oh baby
And you've got a heart that's made of pure gold, oh baby
You've given me so much that I'm grateful of such a faithful love
And it gets sweeter as the days go by, sweeter as the days go by

Oh I'd be lost without you baby, now don't ever leave me
'Cause your sweet kiss turns on my sunshine, oh yeah baby
At night the stars, they wink at you, I-hi-hi have seen them, baby
Ah but I guess every single star knows how sweet you are
You get sweeter as the days go by, sweeter, honey, as the days go by

[Backing vocals, over sax solo:]
Just a little sweeter, baby [x4]

Now there are so many reasons for me to love you, oh baby
And I'm so lucky to have you and that's no lie, no baby
Yes, you're a candymaker's dream come true, and darlin', sugar has nothin' on you
And you get sweeter as the days go by, sweeter as the days go by
Honey, you're sweeter than honey, you're sweeter than sugar
[...and fade]

Didn't he sing well Cliff? I've got so many tracks on here by Marvin, maybe you haven't heard some?? I've conjured up 4 off hand that you might like to type in on my list, in the search above, eh? try HD#405, HD#327, HD#220, and the non-HD MM059, you never know, you might not have heard them, if that's the case, maybe you could come back and tell me if you like them eh? Wasn't Marvin great? I get some nice comments from people when I tell them of a few tracks quite often, very nice :-) PS There's 585 so far for you to listen to, :-) Cheers, JOHN

I was on holiday for a week, so have only just returned to my collections, indeed it was the great Frank Wilson who wrote this nice song, with Marvin here singing in his magic style, it was forgotten for so long and I love to find ones that have never been heard until now. So far I'm up to 561 so I'm glad you liked Marvin's song, I saw him once and he was just superb. :-) JOHN

Yes, Ginger, it was originally one of Frank Wilson's songs that I have added too, he wrote this track and often used to produce Marvin with his own songs of course! :-) A great Motown writer was Frank. :-) Cheers to you. JOHN

It sure is, the wonderful Frank Wilson who wrote "Stoned Love" for The Supremes composed this one, I even have Frank singing it on here too! Marvin was a brilliant singer though wasn't he? JOHN

Yes, Alberto, It's the wonderful Frank Wilson who wrote this song along with others like "Stoned Love" for The Supremes for example, and countless dozens of songs, it's a shame he isn't still with us too! :-( it was common practice for several of Motown's artists to record a good song in different versions, and generally they sounded brilliant to me. JOHN

+John G Byrne Frank Wilson was one of Motown best songwriters and producers, no doubt!
i'm glad they recorded different versions of such great songs, because we have more material to enjoy. Long live Motown! !

yes, as you say, Sam Cooke was to me the first SOUL singer and Marvin was equally as good a singer, so I like this tune, I always like the more unusual ones anyway. Thanks for the comment. JOHN

This was Mr B.G Doing what the SAR's label ie Sam Cooke had done about 4yrs earlier...This is a well known Gospel tune. And Marvin ..with that awesome tenor could pull it off, just as Sam had done with the Soul Stirrers....But B.G decided not to go down that road...At stick with more original style material.....Cooke

@THESILENTBOATMAN Crazy isn't it! I think they did a lot of stunning alternate cuts, for example the bonus tracks on Whats Goin' On are incredible, so the stuff we've never heard must be just as good as what we have

It's a great song, great songs and Marvin Gaye will alway's go together hand in hand.

I first came across this track on a CD entitled "tamla motown- big hits & hard to find classics-vol 4", I purchased it in England.

  10. C.... C....

Marvin always blows me away. What an angelic voice he had!

  11. i.... ....

Well, I was looking for a different song when I found this! ;-) Wow, could that man sing! I just love Marvin Gaye-- and all the rest that flashed by in the video! Very Cool! Thanks for posting. 5 stars!

  12. t.... ....

    Alive and kicking. :)

I think he lives in England now.

  13. P.... S....

Yea, this is a great track - it's track 14, disc 1 Marvin Gaye Anthology. Thanks for the info about the time schedule it explains plenty. Phil

  14. J.... G....

I used to wonder why too, until I found out that they used to have to stick to a time schedule for release's, plus Berry Gordy was a perfectionist, (like me!!) just think there's THOUSANDS of unreleased tracks in Motown's vault that haven't seen the light of day, a great shame I think. The good news is, they are now adding them to CD's and I've got quite a few ;-)
