Marvelettes, The - Strange I Know Lyrics
It's strange, I know, but that's the way it goes
Leaving you this way, I'm sorry to say
That my love has faded, faded away
It happened while you were gone
You stayed away too long
I thought you didn't care at all
I was sad as I could be
The same boy who's fella to me
But oh how I tried to resist him, oh how I tried to resist him
But my heart told me to keep him, my heart told me to keep him
It's strange, I know, but that's the way it goes
Leaving you this way, I'm sorry to say
When you get home, I'll be gone
Asked my papa for your letter that I put aside
It's strange, I know, but that's the way it goes
Leaving you this way, but that's the way it goes
It's strange, I know
But that's they way, that's they way, that's the way, that's the way it goes
Oh it's strange I know

Songs like this touches a spot in my soul it almost make me feel sick longing for days gone by
It's like a border we reach and cross, then want to go back but never able to return.

Weird and wonderful harmony on this one....
The harmony.....the harmony!!!!
I guess if there are only 21 comments after 2 years on this song it must not have gotten a lot of airtime anywhere. The Marvelettes were a big-time group and I would have thought there would be hundreds of comments here. Strange I know, but I thought there would be more. Thank you all for taking the time to write a little something about this apparently obscure nearly forgotten song.
I have a handful of questions that I'd like to ask God after I die provided I go to the right place. One of them is going to be the question "why do certain songs move you the way they do", why do you never forget them , why are they so embedded in your brain and pull up the most incredibly Vivid memories of a certain place or time or person or all three mystically entwined together. I need to know that.
Music has helped get me through this sometimes very troubled life. I cannot imagine life without music.
Does anybody have an authoritative idea about how much airtime this got when it was released ?I grew up in Denver and I probably heard this a total of 5 times. And you know how some songs really get inside of you; well I doubt that I heard it after 1965( it was released in early 63). I didn't even know who did it. Fast forward to 2015. At the age of 67 I got my own computer. And with just a little bit of sleuthing I found it. It never ceases to amaze me how a Song can haunt you for so long. Even when I listen to it now it's such a beautifully sad song that you just can't help but take it into your heart.
When “Strange I Know” came out (1963), I was still in grammar school, 7th-8th grade. During that time music stations were racially segregated so it probably wasn’t played on white stations. HOWEVER, Chicago’s black stations played music by the Marvelettes and black artists in general. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have had any knowledge of “Strange I Know”. I’m now 70 years old, and it still makes me swoon just listening to it.
Beautiful and sad song. ❤️
