Marvelettes, The - Dream Baby Lyrics

Sweet dream baby
Sweet dream baby
Sweet dream baby
How long must I dream?

Dream baby got me dreaming sweet dreams, the whole day through
Dream baby got me dreaming sweet dreams, the night-time too
I love you and I'm dreaming of you, that won't do
Dream baby, make me stop my dreaming, you can make my dreams come true

Sweet dream baby
Sweet dream baby
Sweet dream baby
How long must I dream?

Dream baby got me dreaming sweet dreams, the whole day through
Dream baby got me dreaming sweet dreams, the night-time too
I love you and I'm dreaming of you, that won't do
Dream baby, make me stop my dreaming, you can make my dreams come true

Oh sweet dream baby
Yeah sweet dream baby
Sweet dream baby
How long must I dream?

Sweet dream baby
Sweet dream baby
Sweet dream baby

    I agree with jamar22100

...and I agree with both of you!

@jamar22100 What impresses me most about the group is that they had very conservative views on what they could sing, and yet time after time, they pull off a solid, fantastic performance. I'd never associate the Marvelettes with a Roy Orbison tune and yet again, BINGO! They give it their own beautiful spin. You're right, they CAN sing almost anything (except maybe opera, lol!)

Man it seems like they can almost sing anything.

@sleepytimegalz Hi Phyllis! I'm happy you found this too! It was a nice surprise when I found it on an old Marvelettes album- thanks for sharing your comment here!

@hotgritz4sho and thank you for adding your comment! this was a surprise to me too. a really kind fellow made me a cd of the "The Marvelettes Sing" album years ago and I didn't really expect that there would be so many good songs on it. I believe it was one of those Motown albums recorded very quickly to capitalize on the group's popularity, but it's still a very enjoyable one. Wanda's voice is perfect for this song's wistful and daydream oriented lyrics. Thanks again for your comment!

it definitely is a fantastic cover

What I find interesting is that it wasn't just Motown that did this sort of thing. It seems that if you look at any, and I mean ANY album from the era of the late 50's to the late 60's, it seems every record company featured an act doing covers on the albums . Even a lot of MOR artists had albums that were almost nothing but covers of everyone else's hits. I guess it was just the line of thought back then that you could boost an album's appeal by larding it with already-popular numbers.

    I love this.......

I'm guessing an album filler, because Berry favored making B sides of 45s Motown (Jobette) material, in order to boost their in-house royalties. Interesting, but just shows how it is so easy to cover an existing song instead of writing, producing, and recording a good original.

Roy Orbison did this originally and it's a good one!

now who did the original, The Marvelettes or Roy Orbison?
