Marty Robbins - The Master's Call Lyrics
When I was but a young man I was wild and full of fire
A youth within my teens, but full of challenge and desire
I ran away from home and left my mother and my dad
I know it grieved them so to think their only boy was bad.
How many times we robbed and plundered, I could never tell
This kind of sinful living leads only to a fall
I learned that much and more the night I heard my Master call.
One night we rustled cattle, a thousand head or so
And started them out on the trail that leads to Mexico
But a norther started blowing and lightning flashed about
I thought someone was calling me, I thought I heard a shout.
Then at that moment lightning struck not twenty yards from me
And this time I knew I heard a voice, a voice so sweet and strange
A voice that came from everywhere, a voice that called my name.
So frightened I was thinking of sinful deeds I'd done
I failed to see the thousand head of cattle start to run
The cattle they stampeded, were running all around
My pony ran but stumbled and it threw me to the ground.
I felt the end was near, that death would be the price
When a mighty bolt of lightning showed the face of Jesus Christ
And I cried oh Lord forgive me, don't let it happen now
I want to live for you alone, Oh God these words I vow.
My wicked past unfolded, I thought of wasted years
When another bolt of lightning killed a hundred head of steers
And the others rushed on by me and I was left to live
The Master had a reason, life is his to take or give.
A miracle performed that night, I wasn't meant to die
The dead ones formed a barricade least six or seven high
And right behind it there was I, afraid but safe and sound
I cried and begged for mercy kneeling there upon the ground.
A pardon I was granted, my sinful soul set free
No more to fear the angry waves upon life's stormy sea
Forgiven by the love of God, a love that will remain
I gave my life and soul the night the Saviour called my name...

Marty Robbins The Master's Call Comments
just found this song and loving every second of it
This song gives chills, i understand how it makes people cry.
God exists deal with it
I don't like Christian songs but damn this one hits hard
i cannot pay attention to the words for more than three seconds, i still love his songs but can anyone relate?
The words are what make this song so amazing.....That and the fact that Marty Robbins is one of the best singers of all time
Perhaps the greatest album of all time. Every track is memorable, and the atmosphere and style is palpable. Conjures imagery of the old west and that frontier spirit in the minds of all Americans.
I'm the type that can listen to black metal and then throw on some Marty Robbins what an absolute legend, inspiring stuff
my love song from 1968 nikos tarantella xersonisos
please don't ruin this with a religious or anti religious agenda it's a good song with heart and a good meaning in the end even if you don't believe in god (me) you can still understand the lesson of not being a robber or a killer and if you disagree then screw you a song is ment to be the interpretation of the listener and can mean what you want it to mean
Hey... This isnt Big Iron...
anyone else get goose bumps?
When i turned to Jesus Christ, fortunately it didn't have to include the slaughter of cattle and friends. I realized that i was the one who was screwing up my own life. Jesus offered me a way to be measured differently instead of my own failures, his righteousness.
EDIT: & i would be remiss if i did not credit this song, which was one of my earliest influences as a child, in my adult decision to choose Jesus Christ
When a Deathclaw hits you but you have 1 hp left...
I think of John and Arthur
The tree of knowledge (sin) was shaved into a cross (retribution).
Oh by the way, Nords are real. And Ragnarok is coming. Shiver...... shiver........
I recieved Jesus Christ the Lord Our God, and experienced everything this dude said.
All you people out there beguiled by satan, I am sorry for you.
All you people out there saved by Jesus Christ, you have a great gift, you do not know. Praise.
The master takes care of the worthy
Imagine this but animated, like the classic bible cartoons
One of the best western songs ever! it always reduces me to tears!
I can smell inspiration for the song 'Help!' here
Am I the only one that gets chills listening or singing to this?
1.2K Dislikes???????????
Glendale's very own
if your on keyboard hold space
And I thought I hated Christian music
Masterpiece. It's a shame he only made one western album.
More Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs, The Return of the Gunfigter, Saddle Tramp, The Drifter....and a few more. He re uses some of the songs but this was not the only western album he made
These comments are cringe
Anyone else going to cry😭
My church plays this song
He's so damn good at singing.
crazy voice and crazy guitar work in every song of his. too bad the mix silence the guitar
love the ps2 graphics cowboy
Criminal that this song isn't in the RDR2 prologue
This song is the only thing that can bring not religious people to like not religious music.
I do not like country at all, like I jist cannot stand country. Marty Robbins is the one exception, his music is gorgeous. I first found his song Big Iron from TikTok and I’ve started listening to his other music. I have to say I am impressed. I rarely ever like other songs from artists.
Boot Hill gospel
Real country not like today’s hick hop
I wish I can have a Playstation model of myself on my album too.....
1:05 that harmony is so good!
I'm listening to this and it makes me cry for no reason
1.1k only boys were bad
Does anyone agree this should have been a soundtrack to Red Dead Redemption?
New Vegas am i right
Vibe check from god
my favorite country artist. no profanity, no sex, no beer and in this song God
F in the chat boys we lost a legend
He is going cuck Mexico now
Every time I listen to this, it gives me chills. It always reminds me that our life’s purpose is to live for Him.
You can’t go to a Marty Robbins song about hearing about big iron
1.1k people are retarded
I love how we can all get together, just commenting on this music of wonders on our phones, or laptops.
This emotionally hit me hard. Damn.
*_when the big iron isn’t enough_*
I wish there would be more artists who did this story type of thing it's quite interesting really
I'm not religious but fuck this is a good song
Amazing song. Not religious AT ALL, but can always enjoy great music.
When I was but a young man, I was wild and full of fire
A youth within my teens, but full of challenge and desire
I ran away from home and left my mother and my dad
I know it grieved them so to think their only boy went bad
I fell in with an outlaw band, their names were known quite well
How many times we robbed and plundered, I could never tell
This kind of sinful living, leads only to a fall
I learned that much and more the night I heard my Master's call
One night we rustled cattle, a thousand head or so
And started then out on the trail that leads to Mexico
When a norther started blowing and lightning flashed about
I thought someone was calling me, I thought I heard a shout
Then at that moment lightning struck not twenty yards from me
And left there was a giant cross where once there was a tree
This time I knew I heard a voice, a voice so sweet and strange
A voice that came from everywhere, a voice that called my name
So frightened I was thinking of sinful deeds I'd done
I failed to see the thousand head of cattle start to run
The cattle they stampeded, were running all around

86 or 87 high...
I gave my life and soul the night the savior called my name ...
Congrats For Million Views.
I’m not a Christian, but I still love and appreciate this song. Too many people can’t look past religion’s minutiae and baggage and truly appreciate the meaning and spirituality of music
Maybe I’ll give religion a change.
I love this almost more than Big Iron
beats it for me
@Stone Block Yeah, it's grown on me
How in the hell does this have 1K dislikes? ?
It's pretty much at 10% disliked. Satanists or EDM fans I'm guessing
srdd nrsmn red atheists who hate our lord
Commies

This album is to Marty Robbins as Master of Puppets was to Metallica. Masterpiece.
This returned me to my faith. That and Hannibal the tv series. Look, it's complicated.
The Only good kind of country music.
Western country the only thing
I swear to fucking god...
We need more people like Marty Robbins and Johnny Horton
Hold my horse
That title is pretty metal
This is a great song 👍
This song genuinely makes me falter and tear up everytime I try to sing it.
I'm so glad my late father introduced me to his records, and no other genre of music can calm me down like this lovely western ballad genre. I can get through a lot with this type of music, and I wish it was still like this!
Reminds me of Arthur Morgan.
Marty Robbins Masters Call or Johnny Cash Ghost Riders in the Sky?
Good toss up.
Marty did Ghost Riders in the Sky as well, so he kinda has an advantage heh
Allahu Ekber, god bless you marty. Ti si meni sehid.
Great song ,gets me every time,,
I want ro live for you alone my master
Gosh what a powerful song. I cant help but feel like this song follows me and my days of the carnival but its really about the traveller when they realise its time to make amends and to quit running. I Gotta go home to winnpeg soon, my grandmother needs me.

Being a queer Christian and recently getting my faith back, this song gives me hope and fills me with love. God thank you for making me different and loving me all the same!! 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈

@Sammie1053 RDR2 main character, you should really play it's pretty good game.
I'm afraid..
My mother has this album. I've listened to it many times. This song still is very moving. RIP. Marty Robbins. thank you so much.
I'm 13 and I'll proudly say this type of music is REAL
Where has Marty Robbins been all my life, the best stuff I've heard in a while.
In a grave
I’m not American. I’m not Christian. I don’t like country. No one I know showed me this. I still think it might be the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard. It’s haunted me for more than a decade. Unforgettable.
Rest In Power Papa💙
What a powerful song! Brings tear to my eye every time I listen
