Marty Robbins - Oh How I Miss You (Since You Went Away) Lyrics

Oh how I miss you since you went away
Oh how I need you more every day
I'll be so happy when you're back to stay
Oh how I miss you since you went away

I lost my sunshine the day you went away
All of my blue skies have turned into gray
I'm so heartbroken that's all I can say
Oh how I miss you since you went away

I miss your blue eyes your sweet smiling face
No one on earth dear can ever take your place
Don't think I'm fooling when you, hear me say
Oh how I miss you since you went away...

This was 1 of Mr. Petes most requested songs. Saw him perform it on the WSB Bardance In Atlanta back in the 40s. He has always been My Very Favorite Country Vocalist. But he was from my part of Georgia__So why Not :-)

  19. t.... ....

Sinatra, Crosby, Como and Cole never sang this song. The song they sang was from the 1920's 'Oh How I Miss You Tonight.' Jim Reeves also sang it. I hope this clears any confusion with exactly the same song titles.

    t.... ....

@tarquin45 hank locklin recorded this song in 1962 (happy journey lp). louie.

  20. c.... m....

Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin were great singers but they couldn't sing this song as good as Marty.

It is a lovely song - written by my dad, Pete Cassell.    For those who remember her, my mom, Ruth, is still living at age 91.

    J.... B....

@Jean Bennett  I can recall reading on an album cover that Marty was influenced by your father Jean.

    J.... B....

+Jean Bennett. Dear Ms. Bennett, So glad to hear Ms. Ruth is Still with us. I saw Your Dad, Mr. Pete many times at the Old WSB Barndance back in the 40s & he was is, & will always be my Favorite Singer. Thank you for your kind comments. It is wonderful to know that my dad still has loyal fans. I am sorry to let you know that my dear mom passed away on May 28, 2015 in Jacksonville, FL at the age of 92. She lived a long and a wonderful life and we were blessed to have her with us for such a long time.

    J.... B....

What a lovely message, Jerry. You need to run etiquette classes with the younger generation!

    J.... B....

Thank You Ms. Josephine Very Much. I come from a time when 'Musicians & Performers had a true gift of talent and I have always tryed to keep their memories & endeavors going on. To me, The 40s & 50s were the Golden Age of Country & Western Music & Its 'Stars'. Mr. Cassell was truly 'One' That had Both Talent & a Heart To Perform It. God Bless All. Jerry

Recently I heard that my friend Jack Pruett had died. There are not many of Marty's older band members left.
When I read through all of the wonderful comments I see about Marty and his music I also see that many people are hurting due to the loss and seperation of loved ones.
The Apostle Paul said that, "Death will be the last enemy to be defeated." Make sure you are ready when Jesus returns. It could be any day now.
    Don't buy any green bananas!

  35. A.... S....

the title of the album is double barrelled by marty robbins and the song man walks among us

  36. p.... ....

@tarquin45 Tarquin, as you know I'm a steel picker too and I knew Bill, not well but I knew him. I think the reason Marty never recorded that song was that it had already been recorded by so, so many other artists. I do think he did it on some of his live shows and would introduce Bill as the writer. I overheard Marty one time talking back stage at the Opry about another song he didn't record saying that it had been over recorded already; I can't remember the song though.

  37. T.... M....

I remember the day Bill Johnson died, because I was attempting to find out where he had he retired to; I thought that if I could find him, I would tell him how valuable his soft style of carefully following the melody line had been to a pedal steel beginner. But he could tear it up too on the C6 neck.
He had a terrific solo on "The Shoe Goes on the Other Foot Tonight."
Thank goodness for all the pictures of his playing along with Marty Robbins.

    With affectionate thanks.

    Tim.

  38. D.... D....

  40. t.... ....

Steel Guitarist Bill Johnson was actually buried today in Alabama. He wrote one of the great classic country ballads 'A Wound Time Can;t Erase' which Marty mystifyingly never cut.
    On piano is Bill Pursell.

  41. M.... C....

I cant say the last time I heard a song performed with so much feeling. Marty sure knew how to touch our hearts. Congratulations to that band behind him. Does anyone know the piano and steel players names. Thank for sharing.
