Marty Robbins - Now Is The Hour Lyrics
Now is the hour when we must say goodbye
Soon you'll be sailing far across the sea
While you're away please remember me
When you return you'll find me waiting here

When I was a young soldier the army band would always play this song. It was very sad. When I left for the Korean War and didn't know if I would come back alive or in a coffin we hope the words of this song was true. I survived with only one wound, but a number of my friends came back in coffin . Some in the same ships they went to Korea.. Carl
Used as a farewell song to Māori soldiers to WWI. Good history of it on wikipedia

I remember this tune back in the 40s. I love this song
My grandpa died in 1948, four years before I was born, but I was told that this was one of his favorite songs, and it was playing on the radio when my grandma got word that he'd been electrocuted at work. I've always loved this song.
Withheld laugh!
Great rendition of this lovely song.
Thank you for sharing and thank you sessnazx for sending.

Great stuff. Thanks for acknowledging New Zealand and Maori origins.
Thanks pentubes for taking the time and trouble to comment on what clips I've posted by Marty. He's my 'hero' as well. To me, he has never received the credit or plaudits his unique vocal and songwriting talents deserved.
Not only did he have outstanding vocal ability, but he wrote many wonderful songs that crossed all genres.
