Marty Robbins - (Ghost) Riders In The Sky Lyrics
An old cowpoke went ridin' out one dark and windy day
Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way
When all at once a mighty herd of red eyed cows he saw
Plowin' through the ragged skies, and up a cloudy draw
Ghost herd in the sky
Their horns were black and shiny and their hoofs were made of steel
Their brands were still on fire and their hot breath he could feel
A bolt of fear shot through him as they thundered through the sky
for He saw the riders commin' hard, and he heard their mournful cry
Yippie-I-ay, yippie-I-o
Ghost riders in the sky
Their shirts all soaked with sweat.
They're ridin' hard to catch that herd, but they aint caught 'em yet'
'Cause they got ride forever on that range up in the sky,
On horses snorting fire, as they ride on, hear their cry.
Yippie-I-ay, yippie-I-o
Ghost riders in the sky
As the riders loped on by him, he heard one call his name
If you wanta to save your soul from hell aridin' on our range,
Then cowboy change your ways today, or with us you will ride,
Tryin' to catch the devil's herd, across these endless skies
Yippie-I-ay, yippie-I-o
Ghost riders in the sky
Ghost riders in the sky

oooooohhhhhhyes
Not Burl Ives'' ethereal, sad and mournful 1949 vision, but a good introduction to the Cowboy Gospel Music genre.
The best male singer
I loved Mr. Robbins as both a singer and a stock car driver. He was an extremely talented man. I actually had a friend many years ago who built a set of headers for Marty's stock car.
First heard this as an eight year old in Harvey, at the Harveyette restaurant. Still makes me tear up
OH OH MY GOSH EVER GIVING ME CHILL BUMBS ALL OVER ME!!!!!!OH OH OH YES YES!!!!
This version is great, but nothing beats Johnny Cash's version.
Frankie Laine is best.
Love this song but I think Vaughn Monroe does it better due to his deep voice.
And yet.......Marty is so much more famous.
You are right. But who remembers Vaugn Monroe except people in our age bracket. Marty Robbins was the best for his time. Since you make reference to Vaugn Monroe I am sure you'll agree the best entertainers we have seen come and go in our life time but sadly no replacements are on the way.

Howdi and a Happy new year2020
OH LORD, HOW I MISS THOSE WONDERFUL YEARS GROWING UP HERE IN THE USA.......THEN IT ALL CHANGED, FOR THE WORSE! PEOPLE WHO NEVER LIVED IN THE 1950'S AND 19560'S WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO TAKE IT IF THEY WERE TRANSPORTED BACK TO THOSE WONDERFUL TIMES OF LIFE HERE IN THE USA. 12/29/19
Burl Ives made the first recording of this song and I like his rendition but hard to beat Mr.Robbins with any song he sang.
I remember this song early 60s I believe. Love Marty Robbins voice
i remember as a kid listing to all his music with my dad such great memories
He is a good singer for someone who stands 5' tall and is a homosexual. smh
Never heard Marty's version of this before. Sounds great!
228 cowboys haven't changed their ways
Linda música. Lembra meus tempos de adolescente e filmes de cowboys.
It seems like chasing the Devil's Herd would be better than many jobs in the firey pit.
good tarantella nikos
Does anyone know anything about the painting that appears at 0.14, 0.56, 1.38, 3.07? I have a painting like this that I thought was original but apparently is a copy of a painting. In the painting, the cowboy is actually looking up and back at what are presumably 4 vultures in the distance. I purchased this painting; pen and ink type painting/drawing in Saudi Arabia about 30 years ago. The artist signed it K. Christopher. The painting is extremely well done. Now I am curious about the original painting and artist. I checked Frederic Remington's website and did not see it there. https://photos.app.goo.gl/bgyr4rMsuKaRL1wJ6
Been in here 18 years, and still got life to go, and the big boss man is one tough old boy.
Love this song... What has happened to real songs? No one just sings...They all sound the same about the same subject..
Where are the likes of Marty Robins today?
First record I ever owned
Where are those great singers in this day and age. All gone. Now, they all sound the same.
Don Henley is still around, great singer songwriter but these days he's more worried about the fictitious problem of climate change.
Cowboy needs to repent ........ or he’ll ride with the devils herd for eternity
good song 🙏
Makes me want to ride across the plains of America', what a fabulous voice and video and song ,loved this song since I was a child , Shirley h Darlington england 😁
One of the truly greats.
Alternative version: On the beach, a sunburned whore was laying in the sand. She said, " in my condition, if you really want to screw, we'd do a much more thorough job, with me on top of you".
man it may be a terrible thing to say that someone other than the sons of pioneers are better at this song, but damn if marty robbins may prove me wrong. this versions gives me goosebumps and cold shivers. it is AWESOME!
best version
One of the GREATEST ! ~ ! ~ !
Now that's Country!!
Marty Robbins is amongst the best, if not the best.
Simply awesome !!!
The very best version of this wonderful western classic there is! Marty Robbins did it!
I think Marty sings this song better than anyone else that has ever sung it.
Leslie Morris burl Ives!
Johnny Cash.
I love Marty and have most of his recordings but Vaugh Monroe was my favorite with this one.
What happened to the cracking of the whips?
Where can you hear country music like this , today? What a fantastic singer.
Greatest western singer ever my favorite singer always
Greatest voice without. Loud background. Music. Or backup. Group
what movies the clips from?
Great version ...nice images to go with it. I noticed Robbins did not include the reference to Hell in this one . .hmm wonder why?
One of the greatest singers, interpreters and vocal poets ever to grace the Earth!
Iconic and haunting...marvelous video! Thank you for sharing!
One of the greatest singers of the century
Most beautiful voice I've ever heard
this Version too
just fantastic, great voice i didn't know he had such a fantastic voice a real surprise lol
Without a doubt, the best Country singer ever.
I love hearing Marty Robbins! Reminds me of my father every time I hear his songs. We played Marty's album at my father's funeral.
I am a big fan of west, read hundreds of 25 cents pocket book novels since I was a young kid in 1950's. Those were the days.
diferente
No offense, Marty is good. But listen tothe version done by Nelson Eddy. It transports you into the heavens as one of the riders. A day the end you realize you have been on the trip.
Beautiful rendition.
Marty Robbins--Wow he had a great voice for his genre of music!
This old Cowboy can attest....
Storms in the Texas Plains...
I swear I've seen something in the clouds that this song definitely fits...
Legends exist for a reason... They ain't hoss shit. .
If you're ever out in the west and you feel that eeerie cold claw at your back... DO NOT LOOK!
RIDE!
And pray that God grants you one more chance to make it all right...
- 🐉🤠
what a really great singer did the song perfect
Wonderful song! like
He was great
best western singer ever
I just listened to Burl Ives singing this song and I'm convinced that Marty comes in a close second.to the very best!!
You should see if you can find Vaughan Monroe doing this song would give you chills
The Johnny Cash version is 100X better
I liked this song a lot better as he sang it on his Gunfighters LP. Don't like the music going up at the end of sentences as in the "herd" part of the "Trying to catch the devil's herd" sentence.
I would like to say something but it's already been said
right on brother
Here in Noo Yawk we got nothing like this stuff and hear rap music too much. By the way, isn’t ‘Rap Music’ an oxymoron?
Grew up listening to this music.. It never gets old. ❤
if you got chills on this version, listen to Nelson Eddy, you will be locked in ice. It brings you to another word. His deep baritone voice his notes like none other. It here I’m you tube. Please listen.
1949 was a good year, thanks.
Came across this and did it ever bring back memories as a kid.
Marty was one of the best, he is up there with Willie, the man in black and their mates
His real name was Robinson. I wonder if we're closely related.

We're still here, we've just been shut down. The Silenced Majority. Rising again! Yippie aye yay!
I grew up on a ranch and this song was used, along with a couple about Santa watching us, that Grandpa Rudy used to keep us honest and behaved. Marty was one of his favorites and this song in particular.
Well done, Marty. Thanks
siempre me gustó la melodía de esta canción
desde niño
gracias por compartir
My mom had an album of gunfighter ballads by Marty Robbins. He has such a smooth voice that doesn't show any stress of hitting the notes or anything. But I loved his songs.
My folks had one of gunfighter ballads, too.
Bella Lugosi's eyes.
WOW, this is very nice,...my first listen.😍
first class singer and car driver...loved his wife
Yep leaders of nations are just minority who control nations to tap into a nation economy for their family and elite fews that close to them and that is a fact, let us desolve nations sovereignty and it's armies and live as a specie not nations .
