Marshall Tucker Band, The - Windy City Blues Lyrics

I'm sittin' in Chicago on the thirtieth floor
Lookin' down on the city below
My heart is cold as the wind through the streets
And outside it's starting to snow

Weeks ago I left you in sunny Caroline
Sittin' in our home in the pines
I got a job to do that takes me away from you
But your love still remains on my mind

I'm in love with that girl from that roebuck town
Since I met her she's made my life so sound
She's sweet and she's kind and she's mine all mine
She's the best thing that I'll ever find

The city lights have gone
And the night has brought a storm
And soon I'll be headin' home to you
I can taste your wine
Though it's been a long, long time
No more will I have the Chicago blues

I'm in love with that girl from that roebuck town
Since I met her she's made my life so sound
She's sweet and she's kind and she's mine all mine
She's the best thing that I'll ever find

Look, look around there's snow on the ground
What a cold hard life that I've known
But my love still glows like the city below
Because of all the love she's shown

I'm on a southbound train
Takin' me away from this snow
Takin' me where I really want to go
Out of these chilly winds and havin' no friends
I need the warmth of your sweet lovin' soul

I'm in love with that girl from that roebuck town
Since I met her she's made my life so sound
She's sweet and she's kind and she's mine all mine
She's the best thing that I'll ever find
Got the windy city blues

One of the best bass lines ever.

This is my favorite Marshall Tucker Song. A close first in front of Take the Highway and This Ol' Cowboy...I do think this is Toy Caldwell's best recorded guitar solo, he really stretches out. Arguably...and his guitar tone is beautiful.

  22. S.... ....

Running Like The Wind,Tenth, and Dedicated are all good too.
Unlike previous MTB albums, they all have some filler.
RLTW is the best of the three though

  23. k.... ....

rip. can't play enough of 'em. sd.

  24. D.... S....

This was the first MTB LP I bought back in the mid-70s after the band's short visit to the UK with Grinderswitch & Bonnie Bramlett. Such a great track, a brilliantly clear recording & superb guitar work by Toy. Awesome stuff.

  25. a.... ....

Just heard this played on Radio Caroline. Searched it here what sweet guitar playing.

  26. C.... T....

@Ltrainxpress A couple of years ago I bought Where We All Belong. I was hooked, played it over and over and over. Then I bought songs here and there off itunes. The other day I said fuck it and bought every album from the debut to Together Forever off amazon. Still amazes me he doesn't play with a pick

  27. 1.... ....

I think this may be Toy Caldwell's best guitar work.

  28. a.... ....

Nothing beats Toy Caldwell's guitar work. Especially his solos.

  29. j.... ....

@tuckerbandfan i bought this album on cassette probly 20 years ago. it was black. i played this song back so many times i could wind it back to the begining of the song first try. lot of memories. great album great song

  30. L.... ....

@tuckerbandfan you know, i have for the past couple of months been looking at how many people look at these videos and one thing that amazes me is exactly which songs most people look at. For instance, i would have never thought that so many people would look at Windy City Blues more than say Heard It In A Love Song. MTB have many great lesser known songs; sometime I'm goin to make me a list and put it on my profile of my favorite lesser known songs by MTB!

  31. T.... P....

    great song...

  32. M.... ....

Thanks man, I have been waiting a long time for this one!

  33. h.... ....

Thank-you for posting, I love this song!
