Marshall Tucker Band, The - Bob Away My Blues Lyrics

Well I'm goin' down to the river
I've got a canepole in my hand
I've got my redworms in a Maxwell house coffee can
I'm gonna sit under ashade tree on a riverbank where it's cool
I'm gonna close my eyes and dream and let the cork Bob away my blues

Well I wake up every mornin' I pick peaches all day
And on Saturday night we'll have a dance or two we might waller in the hay
Now the only thing that ever whipped my pa
Was this bad dude called old age
And his last years was his best years
And this is what he had to say

He said boy I've worked this dirt all my life but things ain't been good for awhile
Why don't you move to the city make a little money you might be the first one in
The family ever to die with a smile
Well I took his advice things goin' well
But my friends are far and few
But whoever said a city boy can't have the country blues
Whoever said a city boy can't have the country blues
Whoever said a city boy can't have the country blues
Well honey they ain't talked to me and you

  8. t.... ....

This song was way ahead of its time - kind of a microcosm for the decaying of rural America, the migration of younger people to the major metropolitan areas, and the longing for "the way things used to be"

Forty-two years ago, this was rock music. It's more country than 99 and 44/100ths percent of what's played on country radio today. Favorites are like noses and ... other body parts, because everyone's got one. MTB is mine. Best. Ever!

Sing it Mr. Gray! This is the best song they ever did! Among so many great songs it is hard to pick just one. This is it!

  39. l.... ....

I was paid 50 bucks to embroider the horse and rider on a friends jeans and his girlfriend cut them up and called my husband telling him I had paid 50 to have sex with her boyfriend- fat chance. I was kinda upset about the work I did wasted, but more upset about upsetting my folks Thanksgiving visit. boy that was a long time ago 1976.

  40. E.... M....

my Song...! für das was ich lebe und liebe

  41. g.... ....

"Like" just doesn't cut it !! This is my favorite song ever!!

    g.... ....

    This and curtis lowe

  42. S.... ....

Some things in life, there are no words to accurately describe. It's only what you feel when it's over. This obscenely obscure little "gem" of a tune from the great MTB is one of those things........Dim the lights, turn it up, close your eyes, lean back and listen............how do feel?

  43. C.... ....

I've been listening to the Marshall tucker band my whole life, and they are by far the best, as Oildalecat said. This is a very mellow blues number, and is one of my favorites to this day.

  44. D.... ....

I played the grooves out of the album on this cut.

  45. S.... B....

Maxwell House coffee can,how great is that.

    S.... B....

Classic and such a true life experiences. Many times hunting night crawlers and stored in,,,,,

  46. D.... H....

    the best ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!
