Marshall Tucker Band, The - Blue Ridge Mountain Sky Lyrics

It's a lonesome road
And a hard way to live
But it's the only life that I know
I met some people, I traveled around
But home's always the best place to go

It's a lonesome feeling in my mind
A feeling that I can't leave behind
Carolina's where I'm at, and
I'll always hang my hat
Under those Blue Ridge Mountain skies

I got me a woman back home
She gave me a baby, too
And she stands by my loving side and
Does anything I ask her to

It's a lonesome feeling in my mind
A feeling I can't seem to leave behind
Carolina's where I'm at, and
I'll always hang my hat
Under those Blue Ridge Mountain skies

There's an old man, sittin' in a rockin' chair
He's got the best beagle dog in the county I've been told
But his shotgun done got too rusty
That 'ole beagle dog he done grown a little too old
As he stares up into heaven, I'm sure I know the reason why
He's thinking about that promised land in them Blue Ridge Mountain skies

It's a lonesome feeling in my mind
A feeling I can't seem to leave behind
Carolina's where I'm at, and
I'll always hang my hat
Under those Blue Ridge Mountain skies

  4. J.... H....

I'm from Cleveland TN. right next to the blue ridge mountains, went to high school in the 70's always loved the Marshall Tucker Band, words can't even say

  5. J.... H....

    Spartanburg S.C.

  6. W.... ....

    🎵Tommy was a grand bassist🎶.

  7. s.... h....

Home is truly where the heart is, and if you can't tell where the Tucker boys heart was, well maybe you shouldn't listen to their music. ..

  8. R.... F....

If this ain’t pretty, I’d like to know what is

  9. M.... S....

Saw them at the New York state fair. Either 82 or 83. They encored with this and smoked it.

  10. R.... B....

I remember being a kid and taking long drives down to Virginia from my home state of Rhode Island to see family. As soon as we hit the country and could see the blue ridge mountains, my Dad would put this song on. Let me tell you, there was something really special about smelling that country air, seeing those beautiful mountains, and listening to this song. Great, great memories.

  11. F.... R....

Badass tune, riding a motorcycle though the Blue ridge when it came out. Perfect!

  12. M.... S....

Toy Caldwell was one of the most underrated pickers ever. Awesome.

  13. r.... C....

This song exemplifies those beautiful mountains.

  14. W.... C....

I can't help but to sing this loud and proud. Carolinas where I'm at!

  15. S.... B....

My all time favorite band of any genre. It's earth and bark and fire and spring water and new pine leaves. I've seen deer come out of the woods to listen to it

  16. b.... ....

Great song and great album, but I never understood the art work. A South Carolina band singing about the Blue Ridge Mountains and the cover is a scene from the west with mesquite and plateaus.

  17. M.... M....

Fell in love with this song during my freshman year in college, 1977.  The MTB in their original incarnation were a great, not a good band.  They belong in the R&R hall of fame.  Got to see them live on numerous occasions, and was never disappointed.  A great live band.  Toy Caldwell belting out the lyrics to Can't You See, doesn't get much better than that, or the poignant AB's song. So many great, songs.  It was a sad day when we lost Toy, then Tommy.  Their music lives on, and I play it regularly.

  18. e.... ....

    This sucks

    e.... ....

    You suck

    e.... ....

eXequisite Wow. You really need to expand your horizons

  19. D.... C....

First time I heard this was on a jukebox when stationed at NAS Memphis 1974

  20. J.... C....

    The best Boyos

  21. S.... ....

    One of MTB's best songs

  22. G.... D....

Sniffle Sniffle sob sob Cry Beutifull Rest in peas yall

  23. R.... ....

What a great song. Totally underrated band with a unique sound. I don't know any other band who can pull off having a banjo and a mellotron in the same song.

  24. A.... M....

    I love this song!!

    A.... M....

    Me too Aly!!!!

  25. J.... B....

Forgot how much I Love This Great Song! RIP to all the Tucker members that are now In those Blue Ridge Mountain Sky

  26. R.... J....

The best of the Southern Rock....Great band!!!

  27. j.... ....

This is Toy Caldwell on Vocals and there's a reason why Doug Gray always sang this song, because he did a lot better job with the vocal.

    j.... ....

Nobody thinks Toy was a better singer.. but there's something to be said for the folksiness and simple honesty of Toy's voice.

  28. c.... s....

the last verse is so poignant...

    c.... s....

@chuck scoggins U got that right! I still sing it today loud and proud!

    c.... s....

@michael heberling i want to sing it at my karaoke club, but the can't get it... too bad...

    c.... s....

Help out with those words please sir . Thanks

  31. k.... v....

Great song - Great album  caught 'em LIVE several times, but the SUMMERFEST show was one I'll always remember as killer

  32. D.... K....

Went to school with Tommy (USCSpartanburg) and played many hands of draw poker in the sudent lounge,  everyone always wanted in on a game with Tommy cause every hour or so he would invite all players to his car to burn one.  Those Tucker boys always had the best smoke in Spartanburg County (RIP Tommy & Toy)

  33. D.... B....

Caldwell brothers live on >>>>Southern Rock >>>>>Marshall Tucker Band,,,,, my homeboys

  34. C.... L....

lived overseas for decades...always played the Tucker Boys wherever I was...in Europe, Asia, South America...always made new friends because of the love of their music. Carpe diem.

  35. L.... L....

This Virginian loved those Carolina boys. I came of age in the '70's when they were at their peak - owned all of the albums/cassettes. Man, the memories . . .

    L.... L....

Richard Williams man I hear ya
got my introduction in 1973. went to their concerts whenever they were in town. still have a $6.00 ticket stub from the first time I saw them

  36. S.... H....

I've been rediscovering the MTB lately. Man, when these guys absolutely nail a good song, as they do here, it was a joy to behold. The pride of South Carolina. They were very underrated. In their prime, a great band. Makes me a bit sad that you don't hear this type of sound anymore, which used to be played on rock stations back in the day. It was a special time.

    S.... H....

one thing they were from NC

  37. J.... K....

I'm stationed in ft hood tx and I'm from Table Rock SC and I'm here to tell ya Texas ain't got shit for mountains

    J.... K....

6 years late. South Carolina doesn't know mountain. Come west.

  38. P.... K....

This is MT's (Marshall Tucker, not Montana) best album according to my brain and ears. Joy rains on me when I hear it!!

  39. b.... ....

  40. L.... ....

    Very cool. 8-)

  41. C.... B....

The song GYPSY made into a video on our page was inspired by MTB!

  42. C.... B....

yeah, we are from Hunterdon County, NJ and have played a bunch of shows with MTB - still a great band - Doug Gray invited our lead singer on stage to sing Can't ya see - a great night. We all agree - Carolina here we come.

  43. R.... M....

I love how Rick Willis does this song... perfection, more emotion.

  44. C.... ....

Born and raised in California , heard this song in the 70's . Was blown away... the old man who stares up into heaven was my grandfather in Arkansas . I went and rented a cabin in the Blue Ridge Moutains of Georgia 7 years ago. It was beautiful . All because of this song . ..

  64. T.... T....

Don't move: MTB, ABB, Grinderswitch etc are more popular in the North East.
The 3rd verse is also my favorite verse in the 1 billion or so songs I've heard in 50 plus years...

  65. R.... C....

@tuckerbandfan Yes that third verse is the best. Makes me think of retiring in the Blue Ridge Mt. instead of the Rockies with Poco. I have second row seats to see Pure Prairie League in Monroe Mi. Feb. 12, 2011.

  66. R.... C....

  75. G.... C....

You got that right - one of my favorite all time verses. You know where I'll always hang my hat "when my beagle dog done grown a 'lil too old".
