Mars Volta, The - Things Behind The Sun Lyrics
[Chorus:]
Please beware of them that stare
They'll only smile to see you while your time away
And once you've seen what they have been
To win the earth just won't seem worth your night or your day
Look around you find the ground is not so far from where you are
Don't too wise
For down below they never grow
They're always tired and charms are hired from out of their eyes
Never surprise
Take your time and you'll be fine
And say a prayer for people there who live on the floor
And if you see what's meant to be
Don't be shy, you learn to fly
And see the sun when day is done if only you see
Just what you are beneath a star
That came to stay one rainy day in autumn for free
Yes be what you'll be
[Chorus]
Open up the broken cup
Let goodly sin and sunshine in
Yes that's today
And open wide the hymns you hide
You find renown while people frown
At things that you say
But say what you'll say
About the farmers and the fun
And the things behind the sun
And the people round your head
Who say everything's been said
And the movement in your brain
Sends you out into the rain

Mars Volta, The Things Behind The Sun Comments
I think this is a good cover considering that they decided to stay in time. The original is good but Nick didn't sing in rhythm at all. He's like literally behind the whole time.
The producer of this needs shooting! Could have been a good cover aswell..
this grew majorly on me
Emm, no.
radio interference. off station. irritating.
I need this song from tmv (I already have drake's). Does anybody know where or how I can get it?
Australian (and probably Japanese also) bonus version of Bedlam album CD :)
This version is so strange-beautiful. They found a way to remain original even as they, basically, do the same song, same guitar . This one grows on me slowly..
na!dont beet the original.
dude his voice sucks, I love the lyrics but daaaaaaaayuuuuuuuuum. lmfaco
this cover is so much better than the original!! so much more to it. another good one is weezers cover of paranoid android, lot better than the original, it never hurts to be open minded!!:)
Hermoso cover.
this is awesome love mars volta jeh!!!
@doughboycod2 Well, it's his song isn't it? ¬¬
@Dezz1106 yeah it gives him away
Best cover ever
has anyone noticed john frusciante on acoustic guitar...funny how can you recognise him only by one, two, three, four in the beggining :D
@rochabeatlesfan i tottaly agree. a big part of art in general (at least in my opinion) is interpretation
@jrlsth Yeah, Lazy. Right...
lmao at all these music snobs with their heads up their asses. x)
I love creative re-imaginings of good songs.
My personal distaste for the Mars Volta aside, I just found this cover very, very dull. I can admit that they're a group of talented fellows that are more than competent with their instruments and that is actually what irks me more about this performance. Whoever the guitar player is didn't seem to spend any time trying to actually learn how it's played. It's not "creative" to do it wrong. It's just lazy.
it's John frusciante. he left out every other bass note and I think it's puts more depth in how the highs ring put.
This is actually pretty amazing. Didn't expect it to be so good.
@jrlsth
Woah. How is a respectful cover offensive?
@henoser
lol. Oh, you mean the high voice. Because of balls, The Mars Volta has plenty.
Man, god forbid someone re-imagine a song to pay tribute to a great artist, and not try to tailor it to sound exactly like the original. Let's keep jukebox cover culture going; fuck finding new meaning in an old piece. You can find Drake's in the related videos, stop bitching.
Where does anyone find time in their life to hate The Mars Volta? Forget personal taste and everything, the fact is they are probably the greatest band on the planet right now. Every album is completely different to the others, and every album is a 9/10 at least. Love this song, love this version, still love Nick Drake. Open your eyes.
terrible
It's as if the balls were cut off the original song.
ruined it
I already hated the Mars Volta. This makes me want to buy a ticket to a show and fucking confront them about this god damned travesty. Jesus Drake fucking Christ. They couldn't even get the fucking rhythm correct. If they weren't going to try why did have to cover something as inherently sanctified as a song off of Pink Moon.
This is more offensive than that fucking cellphone commercial.
Listen the original, the real thing!!!
My respect to The Mars Volta for covering such a tremendous forgotten poet.
mmm, I like it a lot, has a really eerie vibe to it though the original is beautiful :)
Agreed! @HawkSuddenStrike
Agreed!
Agreed!
@RolandofGilead541 You know who else is a gift? :D John Frusciante. Him, the RHCP and The Mars Volta I owe my inspiration to. Awesome musicians. :D
Simply beautiful!!
which album does this version is included?
My favorite cover of all time. Nick Drake is a gift...so is Volta.
Yuk... sorry but yuk
What is that Whining in my EAR? Oh yes... It's the Filth that is Over Production vs. MP3 Shimmers of Poor Quality.
@scullyscoliosis I prefer Nick Drake's version, his voice fit it more.
such a beautiful song. i wish i would of known about it sooner. needs more plays.
