IMO there's nothing wrong with this album. Besides, if they kept their sound the same then they would have never evolved as a band. A perfect example of change equalling success is Bring Me The Horizon. Yes they changed dramatically but they would have never gotten big if they stayed deathcore/metalcore the whole time.

Marmozets will be big in 2-3 years time.

Let's be honest - we knew the album would be a let-down the moment they started deleting any slightly critical comments on the first two videos. Sadly it's clear they caved in to record label pressure to begin making dull radio songs for easier income.

lmao do you even know roadrunner records? Go look at the other artists on their roster for proof; they don't care for crafting radio songs. This is clearly an artistic decision made by Marmozets themselves, I don't see a problem with that, they've been changing sound ever since their first EP.

So it's a good thing, no?

This is the best on the album but that's not a huge compliment. What happened between the last album and this that caused this massive change? Why are all these songs so fucking weak and boring? Extremely disappointed and I feel horrible saying these things about a band I love so much, but I wouldn't be saying them if I didn't.

Yeah, these definitely seem like good live songs, particularly for a smaller venue. I can hear a good bit of energy in the rhythm section, it's just buried in the mix for the vocals and lead guitar. Maybe it'll grow on me, I don't know. But I'm from the realms of bands like Meshuggah one one hand, and Starflyer 59 on the other, so I'm hardly the target audience for this style of music anyway :P

I only half agree, frankly. All the singles are exceptionnally weak, true, but it's more a problem of production than composing. The mix is too clean cut, it lacks the grit and the hard of the first album or their previous work. But it honestly was predictable given their very sudden boom in popularity, that their sound would be watered down for mass appeal. A mathcore band wouldn't play Reading and Leeds or Werchter, which is where their first album led (the first album already had a pop edge to it, let's be honest, but it had the benefit of the appropriate production style as well as a tendency towards versatility which is probably the band wanting to take full advantage of the opportunity of being signed at Roadrunner). This album isn't bad per se, it's just not very even and with the singles it's obvious how it was supposed to be marketed but a lot of the non-single songs are honestly pretty good and what you'd expect them to build upon the foundation of Weird and Wonderful; overall the album is definitely weaker but not flat out bad... It's generally okay if underwhelming, in the sense that some of its parts are a lot stronger than the whole. Can be disappointing to some.
Here's to hoping they won't keep sailing towards basic mainstream success though, and then years later crash and burn in trying to recapture the magic of the first album only to embarrass themselves even further... Like Korn did.
