Mark Lanegan - Letter Never Sent Lyrics

A painful reflection was your sole intention
My imagination now leads to attention
The girls at the station, the freaks and their factions
The pimps and addicted want a piece of the action

Oh... you could have sent me a letter
Oh... a letter never sent

Murder or mass slaughter, stepson or stepdaughter
Picked for the patent where sickness is latent
The torch to the trash fire, ghost boys on death wire
Re-dredge the sweeter, my skull and your tire iron

Oh... you could have sent me a letter
Oh... a letter never sent

Oh... you could have sent me a letter
Oh... a letter never sent

If sad introspection was my lone invention
Your blood-covered boots might have sparked my fixation
This minor infraction caused your wild reaction
My stripped naked wheels couldn't catch any traction

Oh... you could have sent me a letter
Oh... a letter never sent

Oh... you could have sent me a letter
Oh... a letter never sent

I'm glad marks getting wider recognition and reward even if it's for making music that's not a patch on Bubblegum and those albums that have gone before like field songs whiskey for and scraps.

  8. J.... C....

Mark style póst punk rock in 2019!

  9. D.... V....

    This sounds poorly recorded :(

    D.... V....

Yes. This sounds like it was recorded in a toilet. Shame, because the track's pretty good.

    Well done!

Blues funeral seemed hard to top, Gargoyle somehow made it seem effortless but this one's aiming to knock those fellas out and I'm here for it. I'm really excited about this album and can't wait to hear it live in November 🤘

By no means a bad song, but... This kind of music isn't what I buy Lanegan albums to hear. He started going astray with Bubblegum and really left the road with Gargoyle. I'll still ride with you, old friend, but I hope we find our way home soon.

@old scratch So long, then, and thanks for all the great tunes. I'll never stop playing them.

@LibrarianBarbarian cheers bro, I totally get it. There has been music, art, directors, etc who I've loved their work but when they changed direction at some point, it was no longer my cup of tea, and I was not able to embrace the change. It's a natural part of being human and a music lover for this to happen. As the guy making the music in question for going on 35 years, I would never have been able to sustain my love of creating, singing or playing live had I not had the natural curiosity and need to grow and explore other forms and means of creating. If I were still making my first 3 records 30 years into a career I would not be alive. Thank you for your love of the music and thank you for keeping it real. I wish you all the best life has to offer. Mark

@old scratch I really appreciate you taking the time to write that, Mark. Not many would. It's not that I think your new stuff is shitty. I recognize the talent and skill behind it, but it just evokes moods and feelings I am not having. I love the recent albums with Duke Garwood; closest thing to the early albums. It's just that you were the only person putting out that kind of music at that level of quality. David Eugene Edwards comes close at times, but in a different way. For many years, your albums seemed to be speaking directly to me, right up to and including Bubblegum, which came out right at the time of my marriage and move to the Southwest. (Wedding Dress, Just Like Willie John hit particularly close) I don't mean that in a weird Manson-Beatles way. Just that we are about the same age and I think we were going through a lot of life stages at the same time, and you were articulating them perfectly for me. Plus, my name's Mark, too. Anyhow, not totally giving up on your work. I'll always give you a listen. Thanks again for your kind comment!

I understand you LibrarianBarbarian, and understand Mark too...can't wait for the live version :)
Greetings from Croatia Mark, you're the best !!!!

I get it but this man wrote Strange Religion, give him a break ;)

  20. J.... F....

Man mark you are a legend, much love from Ireland

  21. B.... ....

Mark is easily the best voice in ALL of music today,

  22. I.... O....

Fucking loving these new tunes. Love any Mark performance but especially love when he sings out like this and Stitch it up

  23. S.... V....

Great song from one of the greatest musicians of the 20th and 21st centuries. Long live Lanegan!

  24. A.... M....

Every little thing mark does is magic!!!

  25. M.... L....

Somebodys Knocking Seems to be his thirth New Wave album. No problem with that. 80's New Wave / Berlin Underground are more important than we would think! Nice job Mark! Choose your OWN way!

  26. I.... I....

Seems Mark does love Depeche Mode much more than his first band Screaming Trees. Like I do. Kinda soul brother of mine...

  27. R.... B....

How i wish you could come to Perú!!!! damm promoters!

    R.... B....

@Ricardo Barandiaran I don't lose hope to see him perform here in Lima. Un Anfiteatro o el Gran Teatro.
