In my opinion this record is way better than the last ones that Mark released.
After Dire Straits he has been going through folk, the blues and I did not like some work, but this one is really good.
I know everyone has his own opinion and I respect him, but for me he is (or at least was) one of the best guitarists in the world. It is the undisputed Jewish talent, Long Life to the Jewish People !!!

Sounds like the bike is running on one cylinder.  The Band, of course, never misses a beat.  Or a note.  Caught Dire Straits  on the radio on a road trip, Mn to Tx. On the way  a CW DJ in  Ok had the intro: "Y'all gotta hear this".  Sultans of Swing. back in - mmm  - '79.  Been Golden all the way.

I love Mark's songwriting as much as his singing and playing, all of which seems to get better, if that's even possible, as time goes on. I'm 4 years younger than he is and I'm already half-dead. I don't know how he does it, especially the touring. I'm a Yank of Scots-Irish ancestry and our people (I say our because he's Scottish as well) have had centuries of a tradition of oral history, both spoken and sung. I can visualize Mark as one of the great bards of history, singing the epic poetry that he writes.

The tradition came about because the elites (Church and royalty) wouldn't allow the common people to learn to read and write for a long time. So, in order to pass the history of the people down through generations, it had to be done orally since so many people were illiterate. That makes even more sublime his lyrics being so much about the common people--Trawlerman's Song, Brothers in Arms, even this one.

When I discovered recently that his solo career was so extensive (I hadn't been paying attention, I guess.) and started listening to his newer songs, I was blown away, but I wondered how anyone can think of songs to write after what? 30+ years of writing them? I was amazed to see how wide his storytelling net really went. I'm still listening to his music as "new," since it's new to me anyway, and it may keep me busy for the rest of my life as well. What a master!

I've also wondered how he can write so many songs! He's amazing!
