To all those people who are here because of Liar by Camila, lemme tell you, it's because both Marina and Camila sampled it from 'all night long' by Lionel Richie. Camila gave Lionel Richie the credits, while Marina didn't.

I understand the logic, but strangely I don't hear any similarities between this and All Night Logic, but I think the verses in both Liar and Karma are almost identical, except the lyrics of course. I'm not at all suggesting you're wrong, but it's just my ears don't seem to hear it!

Therefore, "Liar" is more derivative of "Karma" than it is of "All Night Long" due to the context of the lifted melody. Camila's team only tapped Ritchie for the clearance in order to bypass and thus downplay the more blatant comparisons to Marina's song. By doing so, "Liar" comes off as more of an homage to a distant classic than an unforgivable instance of contemporary song theft.

@Soundarya Suresh I listened to "We're going to parti', karamu', fiesta, forever" and "Heartbreaker, real faker, getting off on bad behaviour" together and the notes are different and the timing is completely different. I'm not hearing it. I think Camila did sample this part but reworked it to make it sound more current and pop, and the result is it sounds like Karma. Whether or not she is aware, I don't know. Though, if she really is a Marina fan, she would be aware of Karma and should have credited both Marina and Lionel.

The point is that this song was before Liar (which is also a good song) (and, in this period of time, Karma was first to sample All Night Long) and so, the logic of the resemblance would be reverse, of course, both songs resemble that by Lionel, but in order, Liar would resemble this one too, because Karma sampled it first. But fyi, I like both songs, I just mean the inspiration to use that sample in Liar, came from the existence of this song, though those are all suppositions, but chronologically, Liar resembles both All Night Long and Karma, but like, whatever. 🤷🏾‍♂️

@Caja Rama No, it isn't ok per sé, but I'm not speaking about copyright issues, but the time proximity and the actual inspiration to use the sample in Liar. I mean, Marina is using a sample without crediting, yeah, but it's not false that Liar is more likely to have been inspired by Karma, rather than directly from All Night Long, but we will never know if they actually had the idea to use the sample due to Marina's song, but it's most likely, due to how closely they were released. It's better to credit, but it's still suspicious how they took the same hook in the same year. At the end, I'll say it like this, not to offend anyone: both songs sound to eachother and like All Night Long, lol.
