possibly my most admired rock band at this moment, I read of them since the 80s and I have listened to them since then, in Mexico it was not easy in those years to get their albums, consider them great and I am not mistaken, stop following them a little after the departure of Fish, however I must admit I am amazed with the work of H, I consider Rothery one of the best, I hope to see him next January 11 2019 here.

This song is a real life example of Romans 1. Marillon sees beautiful nature and they see logical immaterial concepts like numbers, they know God exists. But, with sin and a dislike of God they do not want to submit to Him. They are experiencing good gifts from God like sex, alcohol, feelings and are twisting them to rebel.

We all have feelings of brokenness, we live in a fallen world. I have suffered from depression these last years myself. God often uses difficult situations to humble us and bring us to Him. Also, by the grace of God and with help of people we can overcome that feelings rule us, because they should not.

This song assumes we are innocent, we are not. As stated before we know God exists and we choose sin. We are rebels, remember? But, God is in control. He does not just “sit back”. He has a purpose in saving some people and not others.

Romans 9:19-21 - “One of you will say to me: “Then why does God still blame us? For who is able to resist his will?” But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? “Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?’” Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?

This is a difficult thought, but it just shows how small we actually are, and how big God is. We seriously need to humble ourselves! If you are reading this that means you are alive, which means here is an opportunity to submit to God. Jesus Christ came to this earth and died for the sins of those who believe in Him. He took them on Himself! Your sin. He can legally cleanse you from your sins.

Romans 3:23-24 - “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 2:6-8 – “Though he was in the form of God, [Jesus] did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”

Titus 3:4-7 – “When the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”

When I meet God...I'll tell him that Steve Rothery is the best guitarist in the world. What an awesome sound; with Pete on Rickenbacker double neck and H on semi-acoustic.

First post in 6 years!!!

I posted before the Chicago show in June 2012, and now I'm posting after the Chicago (St Charles) show in 2018. I've seen them a total of 8 times now (X2 in Chicago 2012, 3X in Montreal 2015, and 3X on their mini-tour in 2018), and I still cant get enough. I know there are others who have hit 100 shows, 70 shows, 30 shows, etc, who feel the same way.

This band is phenomenal. Brilliant. My absolute favorite.

This one has stealingly become one of my favorite Marillion songs.

I was gutted when Fish left and found it hard to accept Hogarth as his replacement.
BUT THIS............. THIS song says better than any words Marillion are back on top.
And, yes, Hogarth does this superbly.
Worrying to think this was recorded 12 years ago now.

Albums with Fish were beautiful but very "infected" by Genesis and the like, with H found their own style, they can not, but are unique and unmistakable, and live are fantastic, thanks for the post (I apologize for my English school)

Don't apologise for the lack of fluency - Your English is clear enough.
You could apologise for the inaccuracy of asserting the early albums were 'infected' by Genesis.
They're no more Genesis influenced than, say, this beautiful track.

I'll put in my 2 cents worth: I love both eras of the band, but the more and more I've grown up, I listen more to the H era as (no offense, Onkel) the 80s Fish era stuff has become dated. Plus, Fish has not been able to sing very well for over the last 10+ years. The Return to Childhood was painful to hear live, even when they keyed him down. Very raspy and out of tune at times. Hate that for him. Even before vocal chord surgery, Fish hardly took the best care of his voice like he should have. Still love the guy.

As far as with this Hate-orade for Hogarth, and Hogarth being 'a plague for the band', absolutely ridiculous!! It was obvious that the band was going to change forever after Fish left, and many old school fans would drop off. But think about it. The core four musicians have been there since Fugazi. They truly had to find a new identity after Fish was gone. One thing that Hogarth has done for the band is to take the sole focus away from just the lead singer, as the others tended to be pushed aside in favor of all accolades toward mainly Fish.

Hogarth has helped to make the band all equal and focus even more toward the other members' talents. Not that they weren't present with Fish, but you have to admit it all got to Fish's head after a while. It could not have gone any further with Fish. Something had to give. And through time, the band has re-invented itself several times and grown its brand through tour funding, internet, and such. They are not your conventional band at all! I admire the bold and Brave steps they've taken along the way. Many of us tend to get stuck in the past or one version of a band, but as they do, we all grow up and move forward. I can't think of any better replacement than H. I'll always dig the old school, but as I have grown, I have gravitated more toward H and amazing albums like Brave, AOS, Anoraknophobia (yes I love that album!), Marbles and FEAR. And I want them to continue to perform as long as they are able.

Fish is great.  Hogarth's great.  What's the fucking problem?  As Steve (choose one) said, Marillion should have changed their name when Hogarth joined. Then all this argumentative silliness could have been avoided.  And I'm happy enough with Rothery and the rest of the band that I don't care who's singing.  I like both of them. Switch 'em up. Have a reunion. I just don't fucking care.
