Marianne Faithfull - Past, Present And Future Lyrics
The Past
Well now let me tell you about the past
Past is filled with silent joys and broken toys
Laughing girls and teasing boys
Was I ever in love?
I mean.. it felt like love
There were moments when...
Well, there were moments when...
Present
Go out with you?
Why not?
Do I like to dance?
Of course
Take a walk along the beach tonight?
But don't try to touch me
Don't try to touch me
Cause that will never happen again
Shall we dance?
The Future
Tomorrow... well, tomorrow is a long way off
Maybe someday I'll hold somebody's hand
Maybe somewhere someone will understand
You know, I used to sing: "A tisket, a tasket, a green and yellow basket"
I'm all packed up and I'm on my way and I'm gonna fall in love
But at the moment it's doesn't look good
At the moment it will never happen again
I don't think it will ever happen again

Nice song.
This is the story of my life.
I prefer the Shangri-las version
Мариэнна Фейтфул возрождает к жизни полузабытый хит группы The Shangry-Las 1966 год. Потрясающая песня-монолог, с ее альбома 2011 года...
Wonderful rendition
@AnthonyAmmo Thank you for defining your meaning of a "monologue"...I almost agree with you, in that this version is a bit flat. This version is a bit bitter, where the Shangri-Las version is more sad, more pleading and even more emotional. Faithful sounds as if she's about to slit this guys throat!
@wdharvey1 but do you get what I mean? In the original version of this song by the Shangri-Las the song is also a monlogue but Mary sounds as if she is actually having a conversation. In this version it just sounds like Marianne is reciting the words but not giving a performance.
@AnthonyAmmo it IS a monologue...set to Beethoven!
Nádhera, luxus a skvělé
I love Marianne and also Agnetha but only The Shangri-Las can do the song justice.
Mary Weiss just has 'something' special in her voice.
It's okay. I think the problem is that the original truly sounds conversational. This doesn't sound like we are hearing the single side of any conversations... it sounds like someone performing a monologue in a stage show.
remind me of an all about eve song by bette davis
Bravo! An excellent rendition- makes one wonder why Marlene Dietrich didn't tackle the song herself! The world-weary dialogue is perfect for her as well as Ms. Faithfull.
Arrangement-wise, it is true to the original, but it does seem doomier in this lower voice and sung by an older woman, of course.
A "Faithfull" reading of The Shangri-Las classic.
