Marianne Faithfull - Alabama Song Lyrics
Oh, show me the way to the next whisky bar
Oh, don't ask why, oh, don't ask why
For we must find the next whisky bar
For if we don't find the whisky bar
I tell you we must die
I tell you
I tell you
I tell you we must die
Oh, moon of Alabama
We now must say good-bye
We've lost our good old mamma
And must have whisky, oh you know why
Oh, moon of Alabama
We've lost our good old mamma
And must have whisky, oh you know why
Oh, show me the way to the next pretty boy
Oh, don't ask why, oh, don't ask why
For we must find the next pretty boy
For if we don't find the next pretty boy
I tell you we must die
I tell you we must die
I tell you
I tell you
I tell you we must die
Oh, moon of Alabama
We now must say good-bye
We've lost our good old mamma
And must have boys, oh you know why
Oh, moon of Alabama
We now must say good-bye
We've lost our good old mamma
And must have boys, oh you know why
Oh, show me the way to the next little dollar
Oh, don't ask why, oh, don't ask why
For we must find the next little dollar
For if we don't find the next little dollar
I tell you we must die
I tell you we must die
I tell you
I tell you
I tell you we must die
Oh, moon of Alabama
We now must say good-bye
We've lost our good old mamma
And must have dollars, oh you know why
Oh, moon of Alabama
We now must say good-bye
We've lost our good old mamma
And must have dollars, oh you know why
Thank you, thank you very much. Welcome to the New Morning

Marianne Faithfull Alabama Song Comments
She was never a good singer.
Her voice is totally wrecked.
It's always been like this.
Jim Morrison brought me here...
What a legend.
love this!
That decadence necessarily decayed into Hitler. See Ominous Parallels, Leonard Peikoff. Pre-Hitler Germany had lost its mind. The same ideas are in US universities.

as it was written for Bertolt Brecht's Hauspostille (1927) music by Kurt Weill
WOW! even Marianne Faithfull sings this sone...among many many others.
The way the song was meant to be sung. Sad that the MTV pupils want everything to be done as soft core porn for tweeners. It was written in a period of Germany before Hitler quashed all "decadance" and Anti-German music....and everything else.
Have you ever looked in the score? Because then you would know that this was certainly not what Kurt Weill´s intended. It is supposed to be sung more than one octave higher
@02denise69 Great comment! Thank you!
Have to say I like this version of the alabama song.. but indeed she's not very interesting to look at here. Listening to it, have to say its all the same,, I always found that Marianne's interpretation was very good.. but I don't know where she left it know?
Marianne is very often boring as hell, but please to try to imitate others singers, THEN people will not find you boring, people will hate you.
I only respect Marianne a little because she pick a very good repertoire, but if I had insomnia, I would certainly put one of her bad, and countless, CDs and sleep as a baby.
