I think what you're saying is the whole purpose of the song. It would seem Mariah is saying that she's alone in love because the him is giving her hints or signals that he's into her, but he's only coming half way, and leading her astray. And this is causing her to feel abandoned in some sense. Right now, this song is definitely speaking to me. It's like every word she is saying is truly touching my soul.
