I'm still trying to wrap my head around the meaning of the song 

This is the exact story of my first true love. He popped up out of nowhere after two and half years of leaving me alone without a word... I left my then boyfriend just so I could be with this kid. He was all facade and all emotionally abusive. Every little positive was heaven to me, every ounce of affection. Then he just up and left again, was never truly committed to me, said he wanted to marry me one day but he was also afraid of commitments the next. "I hardly noticed there were tears in her eyes", crying over and over about what I had done wrong in this relationship and messed things up. He really did also get a kick out of having me as this eternal slave to him... he fed on it because he thought I'd always be there. He ended up missing me again but this time I stopped it... it hurt very bad... but I wasn't about to stoop for a piece of trash when I had my best friend in the entire world as my lover, and now fiancé. Skeleton key is more of a euphemism for something anyone can get into, there is a lot of sexual imagery with Margot.

Maybe the Skeleton Key (SK) was the abuser. The lyrics bounce between SK and singer's narratives. But think about it...so charming he almost felt like he was high but she didn't really love him she just adapted to him, made herself out to be a saint carrying the cross of his weaknesses, did nice things for him but always with points and grudges building up secretly against him (you gotta let me know) he got out of it (his disloyalty) but is still recovering from the resulting drinking disorder.

For a band that claims to have taken more than 10 hours to get just 20 seconds of music just right, the results are disappointing. They are obviously trying to emulate more talented acts like Radiohead and Arcade Fire but never quite get there. Their music is hollow and unsatisfying, and I think they are a mediocre band.
