Marc Cohn - Long As I Can See The Light Lyrics

Put a candle in the window,
'Cause I feel I've got to move.
Though I'm going, going,
I'll be coming home soon,
Long as I can see the light.

Pack my bag and let's get movin',
'Cause I'm bound to drift a while.
When I'm gone, gone,
You don't have to worry long,
Long as I can see the light.

Guess I've got that old trav'lin' bone,
'Cause this feelin' won't leave me alone.
But I won't, won't
Be losin' my way, no, no,
Long as I can see the light.

Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Oh, yeah!

Put a candle in the window,
'Cause I feel I've got to move.
Though I'm going, going,
I'll be coming home soon,
Long as I can see the light,
Long as I can see the light,
Long as I can see the light,
Long as I can see the light,
Long as I can see the light...

Absolutely beautiful, sentimental song, in the first place. And as reverent, soulful and beautiful as it could be performed, too.

Greg Shipley sang this version at my friend Ronnie's funeral. OMG it still brings a tear to my heart. Thank you for posting this.

Rediculous to rag on this rendition of the song. Unless you hate beauty. I'm right there with you, Steve L.

  6. q.... ....

Doesn't t the guitarist know the great chords in this song/tune......nice but way too simple for the depth of song it us.

    q.... ....

This is simply, and beautifully, understated.  Cohn, professional that he is, preserved the underlying structure of the song perfectly.  One does not cover an iconic song as a slavish remake.  Ask any artist and you will hear, "I had to choose, so I did it as a rocker (or spiritual, or power ballad,or ...).  If were doing it for the first time today, I just might do it as a beach song (or unplugged, or ...)."  If you're going to cover such a piece, you do so with the example of the original in mind, but not in control.

    q.... ....

@Steve Layland Exactly right. The guitarist (and producer) is the great John Leventhal who knows more chords than anyone but is wise enough not to mimic the original and instead chooses the most tasteful way to convey the soulful feeling of this particular version.

Marc delivers the emotion sentiments of this beautiful song.

This is a fantastic cover. I too, have never heard Marc Cohn.

I'm not usually big on covers, but this is beautiful. A very different interpretation. This was always my favorite Creedence song. I can't believe I had never heard of Cohn till today. This is the 4th Cohn song I've played, and they're all fine music. He'll be performing in Bethlehem, PA, on July 13.

    Beautiful-Great rendition.
