Manic Street Preachers - There By The Grace Of God Lyrics

And all the drugs in the world
Can't save us from ourselves
Victims with the saddest hearts
Passing by the grace of God
There by the grace of God

With grace we will suffer
With grace we shall recover
There by the grace of God
There by the grace of God

Lay down all your guns
Give them up and then move on
It doesn't mean that you are dead
Passing by the grace of God
There by the grace of God

With grace we will suffer
With grace we shall recover
There by the grace of God
There by the grace of God

With grace we will suffer
With grace we shall recover
There by the grace of God
There by the grace of God
There by the grace of God

And all the drugs in the world

With grace we will suffer
With grace we shall recover
There by the grace of God
There by the grace of God

With grace we will suffer
With grace we shall recover
There by the grace of God
There by the grace of God

And all the drugs in the world
Can't save us from ourselves
Victims with the saddest hearts
Passing by the grace of God
There by the grace of God

Do you ever encounter the long forgotten embarrassing emotional ramblings you made in the past on YouTube, on a good song that you became moved by?

And you realise you wrote really embarrassing sh*t lol

Here's another one for you, Jenny, when you next stop by.

  4. Jeremy parker

This song and video packs an emotional punch.

Just so everyone understands: there's no choice to make between grace and revolution. You're supposed to have both, with the one assisting the other. That's what Jesus proclaiming the arrival of the kingdom of God on earth means. Anyone telling you you can only have one or the other hasn't understood, and is making things harder for themselves.

  7. Christian Celtic Warrior

One of their best songs and not saying it lightly it's very hard to choose , from many beautiful , insightful songs

  8. LMA UK

This is one of the most poignant and spiritually insightful songs ever written. If only more people understood the lyrics. Amen.

    Christian Celtic Warrior

I believe God is working through this band even if they don't realize it , most of their songs have a biblical referance and with songs like this one , don't be evil and didn't my Lord deliver Daniel i think God works in many ways , Bless You

  9. Pearl

    beautiful song :')

  10. Neotel LS

    Um verdadeiro clássico

  11. Moonchild

One of the fkin best anthemic melancholic rock songs ever, I kid you not!

  12. underneonloneliness2

James and Sean both went on a serious diet especially James. Look at videos of James in 2001 then in 2002.

  23. Vinsu Karma

    too good for nowadays taste

  24. Marcos Salustiano

    A masterpiece.

  25. Bootstrap Hookers

Even though this track is more sedate than other better known Manic's tracks, I'm surprised it wasn't a bigger hit at the time. Really simple lyrics, doing what an artist should do: sound the alarm without preaching. A song about salvation, forgiveness, compassion, faith and hope. You can't write lyrics like these until you get over yourself, trying to help others learn to get over themselves. The saddest hearts, passing right by the grace of god, not even knowing it. And the mood of the music fits perfectly with the words. I would be damn proud to have written this. And to paraphrase Jack McBain: If you think you've got problems, walk a mile in another man's shoes. Or before you judge him.

    underneonloneliness2

I remember as a kid it being on the radio allot. I think it reached number 2

Br também está aqui .... é nois!!!

  29. donlogan666

Great song just a bad vid

  30. lucy fair

I love this song not least because atheists could take it mean if god exists why does he let people suffer, or by deists of all description to think that no matter how bad things get one can recover. Any one thinking "all the drugs in the world, can't save us from ourself" is specifically talking only about drug abuse is very much mistaken, yeah thats part of that lines meaning but also perhaps more what the manics where mainly hinting at is that no matter how sophisticated society and its medicines become.... that we can't escape our ultimate fate, just prolong it - death.

  31. mij orrison

what I admire about theses guys is.....I live nearby most of them.  They gone from the Valleys yea sure..but they always wanted to!!

They now have their own studio in Cardiff.  Two of them live in Newport City about 15 mins down the M4.  I see Nicky in a local pub sometimes and he has got time for everyone!!!! Not a bit big headed.

James is a bit more distant but this is cos he was shy from a child.....the stage is his platform for release. I dunno where Sean is? He is the quietest one after all.

They are in Bristol Docks end of June tickets released today and I got one...now all gone!!!!  They still got that following cos of the reasons I gave in the other para.....fabtastic!!!!

  32. mij orrison

mister jack macbain. i salute you sir!!

    figureheaduk

It was pretty much stolen from Marilyn Manson's "Coma White"

    ahmed siddique

@figureheaduk And Manson stole from Reznor. The circle of musical life!

    figureheaduk

@ahmed siddique I think Manson stole more from Bowie (compare "Mechanical Animals" to "Ziggy Stardust")

    ahmed siddique

@figureheaduk Starfuckers Inc is about Manson and Love. Reznor was doing the same music in the the 90s. When did Manson start?

    Daniel Alejandro Sotelo Miranda

I'm just knowing this song! The Music channel "VH1 Latinoamerica " is crap! They never added these videos of Manic Street p. As this video, and I see that they are many videos of them and none transmitted it! Channel shit!! 3 months ago I knew of his existence by the song "Motorcycle Emptiness " Through a radio channel music genre that I have!

  45. Simon Walton

Jack Mcbain a man of my own heart. It brings a tear to my eye that we have come to this sorry state of affairs. Jack may I qoute some day on my facebook page?

  46. Jack MacBain

Bedore we Rush to judge the junkies, the greebos, the winos, the weirdos, the loners, stoners, mentally ill, the housewives on pills, tramps, whores, those who sleep in storeway doors and all the other social outcasts; we need to walk a mile in their shoes. I don't believe any babies are born with a desire to grow up to be a misfit or social pariah. Everyone would like a slice of the good life, friends, family, acceptance, empathy a job and a living wage. It is not these individuals that are morally wrong, they're simply symptoms of an increasingly selfish, corrupt, hostile, divisive dog eat dog society. You don't know their story, you don't know their heart or mind. It's easier for us to simply stereotype all non conformists and step over them and on them cruelly casting away their humanity and judging them as lesser beings. They're victims of a subliminally fascist society, that worships money and prestige, and is rapidly losing any notion of the sanctity of life. The sanctity of wealth is of far more importance now!

    Michael Seymour

+John Harrington .....even if you may be an atheist ...god bless you brother .

    Michael Kane

Jack MacBain One of the best comment's I've ever read

    A Ross

Jack MacBain all the drugs in the world can't save us from ourselves x

    Marcus Vmsouza

Thank you for your comments, mate. I´m reading it with inevitable tears in my eyes.

    Lurking Crass Zero

We're all victims of a society that drums into us from day one that we are somehow special, unique and individual, instead of showing us we are all one and the same, and no better or worse than anyone or anything else.

  47. Semillitas de Fe

This song is so cool ,it´s a great band.the video is weird but I like it.

  48. Mackworthgirl76

This reminds me of something Depeche Mode would do & that is no bad thing. One of my fav Manics songs.

    JaBig *

Now that you say it, it makes sense to me, I can hear Martin Gore’s voice over it

    figureheaduk

It reminds me a bit of "Enjoy The Silence"

  49. oras kaar

well, somebody has been listening to U2 haha

  50. OceanSprayxxx

One of my favs! I feel so lucky I had the change to hear them playing it two time during the European tour back in the 2012 because I don't think they will play it again anytime soon.

    Anais Romero

I had the chance to see them too! while I was living in New Zealand, I think that was one in a lifetime since I´m Mexican and I think they have never been to Mexico... so I´m lucky too!

    Graham Parry

They played it tonight in Birmingham. Maybe the first airing since 2012? I love this song although thats not shared by all MSP fans!

  51. Shane Leonard

The homeless dude reminds me of Tim Booth

    Jacqui Cryer1964

Shane Leonard very much his doppelgänger !

    Michael Seymour

    i think a young george bush !

  52. Marin Matusan

    very good

  53. LoLzZ85

They hate this song? For me this was a return form

    underneonloneliness2

I agree! it's one of my fave manics tunes

    Michael Burke

Everyone says that about the Manics, saying X song was a return to form. It confuses me, as the Manics were never out of form? Even with Lifeblood.

    Secret Guy

Your Love Alone Is Not Enough is one of their worst.

    Cyrille Berard

You're right. The sound is not typical of the Manics but it works great. And to dare another comparison it sounds like Simple Minds

  54. dark1ankh

This reminds me of The Smashing Pumpkins.

    FUJI Oxford

This definitely sounds like 'Adore' era Pumpkins. Good comparison.

    liotommy

I came to like both bands in 1996. I find them both to be among greatest 90s rock bands.

    COwens

It reminds me more of Depeche Mode circa 'Enjoy the Silence.'

    Lee J

    I agree

  55. Emiliano Ortega-Guerrero

    rock and roll yeah

  56. damobrfc1875

    Loving your work :)

  57. MrTomas09

nothing wrong with Shakira mate, the hips don't lie ;)

  58. Keith Chalmers

Aren't they being vexatious on the issue of drug taking? Private healthcare offers all kind of cosmetic operations, nutrients, and herbal remedies but sometimes you just need a drug to help you sleep through the shit. Why should health mean the physical body when at times the hurt is in your soul?

    Bootstrap Hookers

I understand where you're coming from, but I suspect that is what they are getting at. Pain or injury to the soul can't be treated with physical medicines. Neither can social inequalities, including problems with power and control of "the masses." Maybe you forgot you already have the answer. Let it in. What's the alternative?

  59. Ash B

ooh look at james' jag. mmmmmmmm

  60. Michael Seymour

1;33 ....whats george bush doing in this video ...oh , yeah -
he must be in his suffer mode - before he gets the grace part .
Lot of suffering to do george .....i'll bet.

  61. Goon Gumpas

48711??? First, I thought it is 4871111 ... I cant` belive it . this song deserves millions of views

  62. Starry&Bohemian

    red lines red lines

  63. Warriorland

I love their "hidden" message in the song. The "drugs" mentioned actually means all our addictions and things we try to fill our hearts with and become enslaved and therefore you need a savior. Now who might that be :)

    Lurking Crass Zero

Yourself. Jesus tried to show us the way, but the Jews killed him for it and Catholicism later hijacked his message. The msg is still in the bible, only it's obfuscated by the bullshit of translation and embellishments. Jesus was a man just like all of us. He wasn't uniquely divine and never claimed to be. He woke to the reality that we are all one and the same, like an organism. That we never die and there is no such thing as death OR hell, only life. That each and every atom in what we call the universe, is an essential part of us and vice versa. We are God and god is us.

    Raxta Emu

    Xait Trumpy?

  64. Jenna Mallow

    good song!!!

  65. manic4manics

    Beautiful, beautiful song.

What's the deal with the shoes and the dancing guy?

    TheFirstpumpkin

"Walk a mile in another man's shoes, before judge him" that's the leitmotif

  66. Josh Empson

One of the greatest songs ever written. Even as an atheist, it's true enough to make you relax, think or cry.

  67. Scott Emmerson

I'm genuinely gobsmacked by how little views this piece of genius has. So simple and raw.

  68. Scott Hunter

Such a fabulous song one of may faves of the MSP's

  69. Ethan Norfolk

    @agro23television grammar?

  70. Shadelassy

This song has a placebo effect to "those people".

  71. MrSoulwaxer

  72. NancySJane Devon

This song is pretty good :)))
GOD Bless Ya All People <3.

  73. seagreenyweeny

@VictimDead I think the idea is that you, the viewer, could be in those shoes, which the "crazy outcast" guy has specially positioned for you.

  74. tonyttt31

Could have done with a ripping solo and it would be amongst their best. As it is, it's very good.

  75. DevilsAk47s

    Beautiful.

  76. Ethan Norfolk

Manics think this is their worst single! I love it though.

  77. Robcatist

Shades of Depeche Mode, The Manics just keep making fantastic music in one style or another......love em!

  78. Notofthisworld13

Powerful song. Deserves a 100 million views.
