Manic Street Preachers - The Love Of Richard Nixon Lyrics
The world on your shoulders
The love of your mother
The fear of the future
The best years behind you
The world is getting older
The need it still grows stronger
The best years never found you
The love of Richard Nixon , death without assassination
The love of Richard Nixon, yeah they all betrayed you
The love of Richard Nixon, death without assassination
Yeah they all betrayed you
Yeah and your country too
Love build around the sandy beaches
Richard the third in the White house
Cowering behind divided curtains
The world is getting older
The times they fall behind you
The need it still grows stronger
The best years never found you
The love of Richard Nixon, death without assassination
The love of Richard Nixon, yeah they all betrayed you
The love of Richard Nixon, death without assassination
Yeah they all betrayed you
Yeah and your country too
The love of Richard Nixon, death without assassination
The love of Richard Nixon, yeah they all betrayed you
People forget China and your war on cancer
Yeah they all betrayed you
Yeah and your country too
In all the decisions I have made in my public life
I have always tried to do what was best for the nation
I have never been a quitter

A design for life and the everlasting and if tolerate this your children will be next. Thier best 3 imo 👍👍👍
I believe the Manics took some influence from a band called Midnight Oil, I’m thinking of their song ‘The forgotten years’, I’m not talking about the melody but the structure of the song and some the effects in the production.
Muy bien, Carlos complace la canción de Manic Street Preachers, “The Love of Richard Nixon”. Gracias por su apoyo.
Essentially alt-historical perspective on Nixon; pre-dates the woke generation by what? 15 years? Incredible song.
They all betrayed you.
One of the. Most underated song ever no one knows it ...its a fantastic song
As a kid I thought even then Nixon was set up. He was a genuine QUAKER who didn't believe in war. "That's not good enough is it?" sic
People do Indeed forget china, his war on cancer. But also notably that he is quagmire
Was Dick Nixon such a bad president? After all, he replaced LBJ! I'd trust him before some of the ones that followed, such as GHW Bush, W Clinton, GW Bush, B Obama
guys make a song ""The love of Donald Trump ""
it's been 15 years and I still occationally out of nowhere get this song stuck in my head...
(and I didn't even understand the lyrics back when it came out since my english wasn't sufficient for that back then)
Any Jkt citizens here?
Come back Nixon, all is forgiven...
They won't have Dick Nixon to kick around anymore
Never really got why they took a positive view on Nixon. As a left wing band how can they be OK with his positions against what were left wing governments. Especially Chille and the coup.
They didn't.
What are left-wing governments? Besides a bunch of homosexuals?
Absolutely amazing, but it’s by the Manics so I will say no more 😍
You always learn a lot about history and politics from Manics’ lyrics
First diss track on a President of the USA
i am the typical greek dude, who claims hellenic and have betrayed every single value this country represents ..
Such a great Manics song. My favourite ever band.
is this possibly the very best manics song
"There's an old Vulcan Saying. Only Nixon could go to China." - Spock
This is such an underrated song. I think just because it was a Manic Street Preachers song people found it difficult to like because it was so different. That’s just one of the many reasons I love it so much. They dared to experiment with different sounds. This has something of a depeche mode style to it, and I love the way James sings it. It is loaded with wit, pathos, irony and humour. It’s one of the great many fantastic defining MSP songs. This band just keep on surprising their fans with great songs and great albums. I’ve been a Manics fan right from the start. I remember listening to ‘Generation Terrorists’ and thinking it was the best debut album by a band ever. I couldn’t imagine how they could top that album, but they’ve managed it again and again. For me MSP are up there with the greatest bands and artists of all time. James has the same breadth of talent as Paul Simon. The song writing ability is up there with Lennon/McCartney, they rock like early David Bowie, and they have the same ability to totally rock a live performance as a trio as Motörhead. There are many other bands I could compare them to, but it would only be a comparison because ultimately The Manic Street Preachers are in my opinion the best band in the world ever. I say that as a massive fan of so many other disparate bands. They are the band that never fail.
just too good band for nowadays taste, thats it :- (
Couldn’t of put it better myself sir 👍
Amen to that
@Vinsu Karma Their last album literally topped the charts mate wtf are you on about
Great president, along with Trump and Reagan.
USA have had bad presidents
great band
IT'S A NICE SONG
"the love of Donald Trump"
Donald will be next!
Nixon was brought down by his own paranoia. He was leading in the polls by a wide margin, but still, he had to know what dirt the Democrats may have had on him. Richard III indeed.
carried the can for losing the war. court martial via a staged trial. nixen was the second president. lincoln was the first to be court martialed for war crimes death by firing squad by a collaberated stitched up assasination
... was better than the love of Donald Trump

It's a great song and a great video. They were so hard on themselves about Lifeblood but this track really stood out for me.
Fuck the Jews!
God Bless You Nixon!
Nixon = Reagan = Clinton = Bush = Trump = Deep American state profiteering of wars and human misery.
What a weird song!
Bloody love this band so much; getting back into them after not listening to them for years. My fave song of the moment...
This is my #TrumpImpeachmentParty Jam!
Seriously, my country (Chile) also got fucked by Tricky Dick's shennaningans and, well, Watergate does not bother me, does Trump being a Russian plant bother you?
brilliant song from an overlooked classic album

Michelle Obama...No gracias.
bomba pecka
What does this even mean?
Richard Nixon is remembered by the watergate scandal and not for the other things he did
Yes people only remember him for that and not the good things he did. Good song.
If I recall correctly, it's meant to be a song about a politician who is primarily remembered for his failings and wrongdoings, so much so that everyone forgets the positive things they accomplished. Specifically in the case of Nixon, he opened diplomatic relations between China and the US, eventually ended US involvement in the war of Vietnam (despite initially escalating it) and established the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and like the song says, launched a "war on cancer" but despite all of that is only remembered for the Watergate scandal and his subsequent resignation. The point being that people like to categorize political figures in a binary fashion, one or the other, good or bad, whereas the truth is always somewhere in between.
@Timothy Fisher Damn. Thanks for the education. Many things lie somewhere in between.
His number is 7
John F. Kennedy was the man
Funny considering "white people" are genetically practically the same as black people and we are all descended from humans from Africa. As someone who works in genetics I find these kinds of comments amusing because all humans are from the same source lol
+stefany watson Finally, another style of fascists pigs.
Yup. He was against the federal reserve so his own government kills him and then his brother :(
among the least bad presidents, which doesn't say much
+stefany watson Good point:sometimes victims fade to villians!!!
IRINA PERMYAKOVA love is piece

Is that fucking Mike Oldfield playing the solo????
haha, yes true, it sounds like a solo from Mike Oldfield...
@Lukáš Zahradníček
It sure does. Maybe the Manics might record a version of Moonlight Shadow next lmao
Is that fucking Mike Oldfield playing the solo????
RUDI UK yeahh
lifeblood my favourite manics album and the only one to not make top 10
"Richard III in the White House, cowering behind divided curtains" - great lyric.
manics are always genius, merging 20th century politics and medieval England
Catchy tune and amazing video, yet this is still one of the weaker Manics songs.
They hit number 2 in the UK charts with this song I think the same it's catchy but that beat is somewhat silly great song nonetheless
I'm sure I heard some where JDB dismiss this song by laughing 'what were we thinking?'
+Robert Creighton Yep, in the movie No Manifesto
I don't see why as the point of the song is that Nixon will always be remembered to the general population for Watergate. Not for some of the other things/policies (good or bad) he did.
+Federico Ortega thanks
oltre i limiti...spettacolari.
This track is pure Depeche Mode style !!
+TokyoLH or new order
Closest to Electronic imo
What??? Never! DM never uses such catchy melodies in their songs!
TokyoLH
Congratulations on that comment though - however wrong, sorry, - DM and The Manics are my 2 all-time fave bands and I was an early (post) punk
squatting in London around 1981 on.... What you mean is, I think, DM began all electrosynth and have introduced guitar whereas the Manics were hardcore guitar and have done the opposite and now introduced synth. That's why I love them - the early Tora Tora and Boys of DM and hardcore guitar of the Manics. O c'mon- DM use catchy lyrics ffs ! Why dyou think thyre still going nearly 40 years on.... Yes - I'm only a year younger than Dave ;)
I was at Waterloo Fire Station squat when The Clash played in the old engine room. That night we'd professional bouncers in monkey suits (tuxedos) on the doors. I used to hang out at Compendium on Camden High St, there was an old Beat Poet night one evening - Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs - I made friends with Nico, and went to see Bowie play Manchester with her circa 86 - she'd a flat in Prestwich, North Manchester. We went with John Cooper Clark.
At the time, I didn't know much about them (I was only into drugs really) so wasn't star-struck, that's how it played and worked, all I knew was she'd sang with The Velvs - and they were smack heads, charismatic and beautiful Nico was, but that nonetheless. I know realise I was hanging out with genius artists and legends. Strange life, isn't it ? I'm in my mid-late 50s now, and very anti-crack and so on that's killing our youth.
King Julien
From Tora Tora and Boys to Master and Servant to Personal Jesus to the recent Heaven - come on, don't be daft !
Great song
Nobbody is pretending that Richard Nixon was any kind of saint, but looking back on history, he was most definitely thrown under the bus.
@Andrew Weightman >Nixon spied on his political rivals
>Obama spies on every leader in the free world
Which had to resign? Makes you think.
+gorypleasure Coz others didn't spy on every leader in the free world, riiight.
nixon spied to find the spy, leaker in the white house
This is actually quite good both song and video.
the love of clement atlee!
Nixon 2016 :)
+javi 216 LOL
Very underrated manics song!!!
It got to number 2 in the U.K.
maybe my favorite MSP song though I admire most of them
@Jemima Craig yeah but you don't hear it played on the radio at all. Same with empty souls.
underrated!? no.2 in UK
A design for life and the everlasting and if tolerate this your children will be next. best 3 imo ❤️👍❤️
Manic Street Preachers The Love of Richard Nixon 2004
Ascultati !!
@Stefan Luca Seara placuta, dle Stefan!
Manic Street Preachers The Love of Richard Nixon 18/10/2004 Alternative rock
99946.... kommt endlich 100000!:)
i think the message can be gleaned from this song is that when we find ourselves before statements that goes like oh is common sense richard nixon was the worst usa president everybody knows that, etc,we get the courage to call into question those statements ,that we ask ourselves what is underlying in those common sayings that we apply a sort of critical thinking in all we see and hear. and what if watergate was not a scandal after all. why is it that the system comes out of the scandals totally reinforced ? i apologize for my english
+Rene Perez Yea they're way ahead of us. Take the way they decided to co-opt terrorism as a sort of shadow MO - Modus Operadi. I mean the recent bombings in Turkey were so clearly state policy. I think we can get caught up in who did what to who for why but the fact is terrorism is state policy to the extent that the terrorists have been coopted as incredible as that may seem. Like the US going to China to research the balance of trade imbalance to discover the problem was Walmart and therefore US consumer demand. Like that's a mystery. Nixon was about dropping the bar on low standards, lower still, so that the demand for more Kennedy's would go away. One wonders about the Monica Lewinsky scandal too in terms of Clinton's presidency. (I mean had she been a slapper but no she was a stunner. God forbid the President should be accused of bad taste). Oh and by the way - just so you know - you are being listened to and we do-do assassination too. If you look back at that time surveillance was the message and still is -PRISM. So be an atheist but always know there is an all seeing eye like it or no. Promoting paranoia as a norm to fill in the existential hole in consciousness. Who knows perhaps it's even a good idea. Standards, Gentlemen: Standards! Vegetarianism is a radical response though it's tougher the longer you've been a meat eater. Perhaps it's the only truly legitimate form of suicide for cannibals. I could go into that but I've already gone on a bit.
Rene Perez do we ?
The point of the song is; whenever people think of Richard Nixon they automatically think of the Watergate scandal and how he had to resign in embarrassment. But if you look at his time objectively he was the first American president to go to Communist China, and did a lot for cancer research (both mentioned in the song). People forget the great stuff he did because of one "fatal" mistake (death without assassination). Like how Tony Blair will be remembered as a war criminal, rather than the fantastic stuff he did before that.
this song is still funky as hell nine years later!
Fantastic song with an equally fantastic video.
Richard Nixon was a shit
That's the one!
Reminds me of that old Vulcan proverb...
I am a huge Manics fan, but I find this song dire. I know bands evolve over time but this is, in my opinion, an incredibly bland track. Glad this was just a blip and the albums after 'Lifeblood' have been fantastic
Lifeblood is great album, but thisafter Miss Europa Disco Dancer is the worst Manics song
They went with different sound for that album. Said that, it's only song without proper guitars in it. Still, very underrated song. Biting irony, human sadness all combined together.
RICHARD NIXON 2016
