Manic Street Preachers - Liverpool Revisited Lyrics
As I wake to a sunset
The light dances on the Mersey
And I think of the 96
As the tears fall down on me
You can see it in your eyes
Fight for justice, fight for life
There are angels in these
SKI-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-IES
As the night falls around me
I see joy and devotion
These times will never leave
Like the rain on the ocean
There is poetry and life
There are ghosts within these stones
There's defiance in these
BO-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-ONES
And all the hatred they tried to throw at you
But you stayed so strong
Yeah all the hatred, it never was the truth
So keep keeping on
This is forever
We'll never leave you now
This is forever
We'll never leave you now

Nice one
is he here? answer us!
Richey,...looking 4 you
#ManicStreetPreachers are a very talented band my favourite Welsh band .
I went to watch the Champions league final at anfield and to hear this amazing track blasting out as I took to my seat was just a fantastic experience! Obviously my beloved LFC appreciate my beloved Manics and this track!
I think in my country nobody knows them, but... even so when they come to Mexico?
Ah by the way... I be honest, in fact, I never knew of its existence, and that is because the culprit is a music channel that I have, no longer or I think it was always like that, and never spend their more than 20 videos you did! "VH1 Latin America" for god I really like curse that channel! its a very shit!!!!
Here what I mean is, that painful to know of its existence on April 5 this year, and it was not thanks to that channel that already mentioned, was by a section of music stations of all the genres that has a device of my cable system!
And I said the following: "What's the use? I'm sorry that if I found out about you, that was too late"
If I had heard from you (your music) do not know? A January of the year 2016 for example... it wouldn't have been late yet! But like I said, it was too late! For that and more curse to VH1 Latin America

Bang average tune tbh. Good little solo, lyrics are pretty poor. Wouldn’t be an auto skip song, but could always be better.
This song is somehow a good overture for the 2018 Champions League Final.
Bet they don't live there though. If they like the Scouse city so much why don't they ever do a gig there.
It’s a nice sentiment, and it’s pretty catchy, too. But it’s also cheesy as fuck and probably shouldn’t be on the album.
Why is this song getting so much hate?? (Didn't you learn anything from 1:57?!)
I don't care what everyone else thinks, this is my favourite song the Manics have done…
…just a shame it's so short :|
I thought this was a bit iffy and ropey at first, but after a few listenings--and hearing it in the context of the album--I appreciate it a lot more.
The fact that this song is so short makes me want to listen to it more. It reminds me of ‘Don’t Panic’ by Coldplay in the sense that the song just gets going right from the off. The lyrics are absolutely brilliant although waking up to a sunset makes me wonder whether he’s on night duty or he needs s decent alarm clock 😂. I love this. This album is one of their greatest
JFT96-GBNF-YNWA
Aww manics forever!love this!
Don't see any reason to criticise this beautiful song - both the meaning and the instrumental side of it. This is simply a positive Sequal to S.Y.M.M and closes the horrific chapter on the Hillsborough tragedy by saying "Here's to you, Liverpool!" .. It's such a class move from the Manics and football has nothing to do with it. Thank you Nicky Wire for writing such graceful lyrics.
Absolutely brilliant! I was in Liverpool for 5 days at February for holiday and I must to say Liverpool is one of the most fascinating city which I´ve ever seen. I fall in love with Loverpool. Greeting from Slovakia ;)
ShAME ON THE VOTE DOWNS (they did not listen )
a song to run away... thanks Manics... God save!!!
Fantastic track!!! Good job lads..... nice and raw chords with excellent lyrics and melody!
Cheesey. Not a fan of the new album, which is a shame, but glad they're still going
Beautiful tribute for Hillsborough and justice. The guitar break in the Middle reminds me of The La’s and to an extent The Stone Roses. I love it. I don’t know how they manage to keep coming up with such powerfully profound songs that sound so good.
Nice song. Liverpool =a city that takes no shit! The treatment of Liverpool and it's people is utterly disgusting. I've visited the city on many occasions and have only good things to say about the people and the city.
YEP THE ALBUM IS SHIT TOO
Top tune by a top band 👍👍👍
You'll Never Walk Alone!
Just heard the whole album. Gave it a chance but it is fuckin awful
Truly awful. Worst lyrics ever. Just stop now.
why stop? Futurology was fine and this is the worst song on the new album
They just aren't dangerous anymore
Crikey, haven't they suffered enough?
Qué bueno. ¡Bravo por enésima vez!
A love letter to this city, its people and their determination.
It’s a jam, but I miss the more dense and intense lyrics and melody.
Nice sentiments but an awful, awful song.
poor by their standards and the worst on the album
Agreed. Piss poor album (by their standards) tbh.
Respect! #jft96
Brilliant.
a onde esta o vocalista ?
I love the bridge / solo in this song
I am obsessed!!
I wonder if i am the only one who loves SYMM?
Glad they retouched on this. SYMM left a hollow feeling in me. And glad the 96 have gotten closer to the justice they deserve.
Absolutely brilliant track.
love it for jdbs vocals. agree way too short. on initial listen was fav from album so far. jurys out now. still love it
Rather formulaic. Nothing new here. Their songs are becoming indistinguishable from one another.
the album is better than I thought from this and the Dylan-Caitlin song
I don't know about this. Being from Liverpool, it's just an overly romanticized view of a place. I guess being in the city at the time of the Hillsborough inquest stuff coming through, maybe it just made sense to write it. But maybe it should have been a bonus track. They can most definitely do better. Futurology proved that.
they were in concert for Hillsborough justice in the mid 90s
Another track about Hillsborough?
1:16 to 1:48 is the only bit I'm enjoying so far.
Beautiful tribute
on 1st listen i think we have another great tune- that riff, solo and backing vocals in the bridge has an instant classic sound- love it! As for lyrics- well FAR more to the point than their last broach of this theme in SYMM (wire copped a bit of flak for it) more celebratory this time around and something people can sing back to
Defo not as good as the first 3 released tracks off the forthcoming new album, but the sentiment and words in the song matter.
Nicky wrote the whole song so thats why it lacks the characteristics of JDBs tuneage...I think it mightve been better if Nicky had sung it and James adding the backing vocals like they did on The Future Has Been Here Forever off the Postcards album, also adding those lovely female choir vocals they used a bit in Postcards too wouldve transcended it into a more touching song, so just feel they missed a trick with it all.
Agree with this.
Join The thank you! 👍☺ even after a few more listens my view on it hasnt changed of it...its a typical Nicky Wire plodding tempo song that JDB does his best to dress up as something more substantial but unfortunately its a bit of a clunker. The harmonies and solo from 1:16 to 1:40 odd are lovely and uplifting, maybe the rest of the song couldve had a similar sound to it backing it up I dunno.
Even a bit of Sean trumpet work on it couldve done the trick?
This is hilariously awful! Trite lyrics, and the tune sounds like it took three seconds to write. Ending on Futurolgy would have been a great way to go. They've missed a trick.
they've had ups and downs before, bounced back well, may do again
Great ! Love them
❤️❤️❤️
come to manila please
All the negativity on here😂 miserable gits 😂
Great song.
I ❤ MSP
Love the manics and looking forward to the new LP but this is a shit song
Keep trying to love some of this new stuff...but it's not working😒yet better than Dylan...
This and the song Dylan are weak, but I prefer the Manics to Bob Dylan
:-* :-* :-*
Definitely NOT one of their best! Okay at best!
seems to me to be the worst album of you in the last years .. I'm disappointed with the songs already divulged
fortunately the album is better than this song
mizofan yes!!! Much better
Only sad thing about this is its to short great tribute to the 96 and those that fought for justice JFT96 Southampton fan they will never walk alone or be forgotten
Not as good as other tracks on the album
Well that was bloody awful. A few rock tracks on the new album would be rather jolly... 4 on 10,.
That's the beauty of this band, they're still as divisive as ever. We all have an opinion and there is no wrong opinion. Just like there is no failure. If you are learning from mistakes then you do not fail.
Wayne Bridger yes there is a thing as failure! If you fail your maths test you fail!
God awfully rubbish. Fair enough it's a tribute... but this songs sucks my grandmother's arse flaps. Manic's are just cringe now. If I was a football I'd explode in a fit of rage. If I was a Liverpool supporter I'd support my own bollock slabs into a turnstile crush.
sinsybinsy twat
Abit short but great song
Do you like Liverpool or not I can't decide? Make a song about chapel Celyn and the 96 and Liverpool
“As I wake to a sunset”
Someone needs to get a new alarm clock.
Though Nicky was possibly having a power nap before a gig.
nightshift fella
Just a thought the sunset in question is the newspaper the s*n
This album is going to be IMMENSE! All of the songs released so far are amazing, each in its own unique way. You can really sense that they're writing and playing from the heart.
clunky lyrics and and a forgettable chord progression. I agree with the sentiment but could have been so much better said
lastoftheurgents1965 agreed
i <3 manic street
,from thailand,asian
another great song. nuff said. love the manics
Let's be honest, this is brutal. Cliche lyrics set to a proper stodgy chord progression. I like the other 3 tracks but this should be a b-side.
Yeah they are. They shouldn't have included this on the album, it's a bit embarrassing. Guaranteed that the additional tracks and also the Japanese bonus tracks will be much better.
I hope so because I was not blown away by the last album.
karamazovbrothers1 Nicky wrote the song entirely
Well that explains a lot. At least he didn't do the vocal.
Explains why it's so bad then. His music is so basic.
As the song advances towards the end I like it even more. Beginning could have been done a tad differently but it is a good song
Different to what I expected and a shame it's so short, it has an anthemic quality to it yet a quiet dignity at the same time considering the subject matter. MSP forever and YNWL.
Brevity reveals the master(s)
I absolutely love this! Favourite song released so far, just ahead of International Blue! This album sounds like it's going to be the Manics at their most uplifting, can't wait :D
This has had me in tears 😭 this morning
And there it is. The worst song the Manics have ever written.
It's not their worst but it's not brilliant by any stretch. I thought show me the wonder was a steaming pile but each to their own.
robvanriot Nicky wrote the song entirely by himself. Maybe that's the reason why you hate it. I must admit that it really is stupid
robvanriot true. Its a pile of shit
You know fuck all lad, stick to your one direction shite
ok who cares if you don't like it, people only need to see comments about people liking this song
I think Rob Harper must be a blue, I mean who else would take this song as an insult? Or is it just the Bill Shankly quote??
Wayne Bridger I am a red who had friends die at Hillsborough. Scouse born and bread. The song to me is poor and pays no respect to my 2 friends or the other 94 in my view. YNWA JFT96
Wayne no insult taken
Rob Harper ok you don't like the song ok. I like gorillaz and not garage palace but I don't bang on about it
SLOTH GAMING I am allowed an opinion. A shit song paying no respect to anyone like myself who had friends among the 96. I find it insulting to be honest. You have a view and I have mine. I dont want to hear a bunch of has beens banging on about something that has fuck all to do with them
Surely the fact they paid wrote a song to pay their respects to those people is what matters? If you don't like the song you don't like the song, but it being a bad song in your eyes doesn't somehow make its intentions less admirable.
Can't people just take this song as a tribute to the strength of the city, the way they've fought back and against injustice and unemployment. From when the Conservatives were in charge of this country and The S## for falsely accusing people of things.
OK so Labour caused the financial crisis of '08 then.
Right wing Thatcherite economics, greedy bonus culture and banking deregulation (in USA under Bush and in UK with policies supported by the Tories while Blair was in government) caused the crash- Blair was an economic Tory and an imperialist warmongering Tory too (supported by the Tories on Iraq too), betrayed the poor and working class, privatised, hated socialism and was not Labour; his political buddies were Murdoch, Berlusconi and Bush. Corbyn Labour is a very different kettle of fish, principled and decent
I'm talking about when Hillsborough happened. Tony Blair was an abject failure. He was more conservative than let on. He once said in an interview that one of his heroes was Thatcher.
"principled and decent" and yet thinks inviting terrorist groups to parliament is a good idea.
Don’t you Socialists now enslave yourselves to foreigners who hate your guts?
An insult to my city
Rob Harper in that case sir, I apologise for being abrupt.
Rob Harper I can only say how I see the song, you being a red and also from Liverpool will no doubt view it another way. But hey, great result. Shame about the bus attack
Its a pile of mediocre tosh
Harper you blurt
The demise continues
Straight away catchy manic street preachers stuff
This is amazing, gorgeous words, stunning vocal, well done boys you've done it again 💙
A love song to Liverpool, that's cool.
Love this, great tribute to Liverpool and Hillsborough
Wayne Bridger i think not.... its a lame track
Rob Harper oh ok?
Rob Harper Alright There You Tatty Head ..
R.I.P the 96 <3
they will have put out the whole album before the 16th at this rate! Thank you Nicky :)
