Manic Street Preachers - Let Robeson Sing Lyrics

Where are you now?
Broken up or still around?
The CIA says you're a guilty man
Will we see the likes of you again?

Can anyone make a difference anymore?
Can anyone write a protest song?
Pinky lefty revolutionary
Burnt at the stake for

A voice so pure - a vision so clear
I've gotta learn to live like you
Learn to sing like you

Went to Cuba to meet Castro
Never got past sleepy Moscow
A giant man with a heavenly voice
MK Ultra turned you paranoid

No passport 'til 1958
McCarthy poisoned through with hate
Liberty lost still buried today
Beneath the lie of the USA

Say what you want
Say what you want

A voice so pure - a vision so clear
I've gotta learn to live like you
Learn to sing like you

Now let the Freedom Train come zooming down the track
Gleaming in the sunlight for white and black
Not stopping at no stations marked colored nor white
Just stopping in the fields in the broad daylight

Stopping in the country in the wide open air
Where there never was a Jim Crow sign nowhere
And no lilly-white committees, politicians of note
Nor poll tax layer through which colored can't vote

And there won't be no kinda color lines
The Freedom Train will be yours
And mine

A voice so pure - a vision so clear
I've gotta learn to live like you
Learn to sing like you

Sing it loud, sing it proud
I will be heard, I will be found
Sing it loud, sing it proud
I will be heard, I will be found

Manic Street Preachers Let Robeson Sing Comments
  1. T.... o....

The irony is that contemporary Black 'nigga' culture has never made this song, it was left to a bunch of white Welshmen. Sums the utter all consuming desolation of todays WOKE culture.

  2. j.... ....

The freedom train is yours... And mine.

  3. d.... w....

Awesome video and very thought provoking - it has class in the absence of the sort of cheesy lefty stuff they could have gone with.

  10. c.... d....

takes welsh boys to write and sing a song about a great american gentleman and hero

  11. D.... ....

An absolute masterpiece ! Like the whole record, by the way

  16. T.... o....

I might add, that by today's insane standards of PC, Robeson would himself be in the bloody doghouse. Racial blindness? Oh no you don't. Here's Henrietta from Rodine and Oxford to tell you that you're a racist Mr Robeson.

  17. T.... o....

The truly hilarious thing, in this age of "Drill" and an ocean of utter human dross better known as black popular culture, it takes a group of white guys from Wales to do justice to one of the century's finest human beings.

    T.... o....

Paul Robeson has a particular connection to Wales so your point isn't actually relevant.

    T.... o....

I love drill and this, so I'm not sure what your point is.

  30. R.... S....

I'm not sure about the exact politics of it all but I love this song. Probably the best song on the album.

    R.... S....

Read about the life of Paul Robeson, and his connection with Wales in particular.

  31. L.... ....

Their lowest viewed single? No surprise, this was filler stuff.

    L.... ....

PS if you're a fan of the Manics you should know that if they thought him worthy of a song then he was probably something special .

    L.... ....

it's one of the best songs on the album

    L.... ....

    Nice profile pic, Motown junk?

    L.... ....

    You’re “filler stuff” sir
This song actually says something, what have you ever said worth listening to?

    L.... ....

Filler stuff? but its about people like you

  32. A.... A....

Una de las grandes canciones desconocidas para la mayoría. Sublime

  33. J.... K....

one of my favourite manics tracks!! its very catchy!!

  34. N.... ....

True. Britain, while encouraging democracy at home was oppressing her colonies. Most who looked to Soviet Union for support, were not really interested in communism, they just wanted to be free of colonial rule & to determine their own affairs. The USSR supported them with arms and education. Remember most of these countries had to FIGHT for freedom, it wasn't handed to them, and the USSR helped them to do so. Many blacks went to USSR to be educated when it was denied them in their own country.

  35. T.... ....

Some of us are socialists & not members of the Labour Party. We look elsewhere - for values, commitment and truth. I am a communist - not a "supporter of the Soviet Union", whatever that meant [it's a redundant concept, in my day-to-day life, of course - that's plain fact]. Mr Robeson shines bright as a fine example to us.
I understand what the 'Manics' understand - we come from the South Wales Valleys and we know where the support has come from. for working people, over many decades.

  36. R.... M....

I always remember listening to this song on radio 1 coming back Manchester from work, I turned the radio on and this was playing, I have turned on the radio in my van thousands of times, so why do I remember this one so well?? The date was 11th September 2001 I always think of that day when I hear this song! Where were you that day?

  37. .... ....

я не могу не выразить свое восхищение этим опизденительным комментарием хД

  38. j.... ....

fuck american hypocrisy. the usa has made a vile habit of overthrowing democratically elected governments and propping up opppressive and murderous regimes.

  39. N.... ....

you have no right to be condemning a free man for his support of anything. he was not running your country, in fact he had to LEAVE your country to be able to follow his dreams of achieving HUMAN DIGNITY. You have no right to ask the man whose father was a slave, and who suffered emence racism to get a decent education, who or what he should support. how dare you? Who do you think you are? You are still not free if you have no room for political disagreement in our US constitution.

  40. N.... ....

So is America, and so are you for condeming a man for his political beliefs. Robeson lived in London for 12 years, where he met politicans who were communists and many of them joined the British labour party, the British labour party was born out of communist ideology as did the british labour union, and the British national health Service, the envy of the world. Many communist were voted into parliament as members of the Labour party, some were even Conservative. Were they dirty too.

  41. e.... p....
