Manhattan Transfer, The - You're A Viper Lyrics

Talk about a reefer of five feet long
Not too fat and not too strong
You get high, but not for long
If you're a viper

Now I'm the king of everything
Got to get high for to sing
Light that tee and we will see
If you're a viper

When coke gets dry you know you're high
Everything is hip and dandy
Truck on down to the candy store
Bust your chops on some peppermint candy

Now you know that you been sent
Don't give a damn if you can't pay the rent
The sky is high and so am I
If you're a viper

When coke gets dry you know you're high
Everything is hip and dandy
Truck on down to the candy store
Bust your chops on some peppermint candy
Now you know everything
Got to get high for to sing
Light that tee and we will see
If you're a viper

Nice tune! Thanks for share it! #NowAndTHEN #JazzVocals

I've been looking for this version for 40 years. When WMMR in Philadelphia couldn't get sponsors after 2AM, DJ/engineer Paul Messing assembled hour long tapes with a stream of consciousness style under the title "OPUS". One of them included this song which segued perfectly into the Carnegie Hall recording of "Sing Sing Sing" without dropping a beat.

This was pretty "early" stuff by them. I posted another off the same album called "Sunny Disposish" , if you're interested. Thanks for commenting.

Thanks for adding this. Manhattan Transfer never refers to this song as I think the newest grouping is embarrassed by it. Great rag time jazz cover.
