Manhattan Transfer, The - Poinciana Lyrics

Poinciana, your branches speak to me of love
Pale moon is casting shadows from above

Poinciana, somehow I feel the jungle heat
Within me, there grows a rhythmic, savage beat

Love is everywhere, its magic perfume fills the air
To and fro you sway, my heart's in time, I've learned to care

Poinciana, from now until the dawning day
Our love will live forever and a day

Poinciana...

Poinciana, from now until the dawning day
Our love will live forever and a day

Blow tropic wind
Sing a song through the tree
Tree sigh to me
Soon my love I will see

Blow tropic wind
Sing a song through the tree
Tree sigh to me
Soon my love I will see

Amazing and great song with beautiful voices.MANHATTAN TRANSFER With its beautiful harmonies, they take us on a journey to distant lands, exotic, heavenly where life would be like a waking dream. This is the power of this song and this fabulous quartet.

Good arrangement. Check out the army airforce band's 1943 rendition under the direction of Captain Glenn Miller.

This song always reminds me of Key West in the Magnificent 70's and the poincianas in bloom overhead. Sublime.

Produced by Richard Perry, "Poinciana", written in 1936 by Nat Simon & Buddy Bernier, featuring Michael Brecker (RIP) on sax and Bill Payne from the group Little Feat on bass.

Love this tune. Used to play it as a kid on guitar with bossa nova twist. That 50 years ago and still love it today.

For everyone who loves this -- as I truly do -- bear in mind that the amazing arrangement and probably the guitar tracks should be credited to Jay Graydon, producer, and not just to MT.

  15. P.... T....

A little bit different atmosphere, Barry... I am enjoying this song while facing hectic shcedules and papers rumbles on my desk.....don't know what to do...which one prior from the other... and then I grab my cold coffee......

  16. M.... B....

This makes me imagine myself lounging beside a pool or under some umbrella on a lush patio, as I sip on a mai tai 😊

You probably watched James A Mitchener's 'Tales of the South Pacific' as I did also as a kid? Or read the book. Yes that and this music takes us both to the same place. Magic eh?

  19. J.... ....

My most favorite MT song followed by A Kiss To Build A Dream On, Java Jive....etc...this song is SO romantic :-)

  20. J.... A....

Happy 90th Birthday Gloria Andrews! You favorite song from decades ago...

  21. G.... W....

Where the heck did you get the spelling "pocinciana"? Everywhere else this Latin word is spelled "poinciana".
