Manhattan Transfer, The - On The Boulevard Lyrics

Darkness lights the lamps of old Brazil
Deep inside the jungle hearts are still
Tigers hide inside alley cats eyes
Waiting for you to walk by

Underneath this starlight latitude
Underneath this tranquil attitude
Oh my feelings are running so high
I feel I could color the sky
Amazon blue

Oh it's you
(Don't you break my heart Brazil)
And it's me
(And leave me here)
On the boulevard
(Upon the boulevard)

Caught inside your spell it's your parade
Refugees from love we masquerade
Though your lover is waiting at home
I have one of my own
I must go to

Oh it's you
(Don't you break my heart Brazil)
And it's me
(And leave me here)
On the boulevard
(Upon the boulevard)

Oh my feelings are running so high
I feel I could color the sky
Amazon blue

Oh it's you
(Don't you break my heart Brazil)
And it's me
(And leave me here)
On the boulevard
(Upon the boulevard)

Love this song, smooth drum playing of Steve Gadd.

  2. L.... d....

Song written by Richard Page and Steve George who eventually formed Mr. Mister

  3. K.... ....

Great track. A lesson to the X factor thrash in what talent really is!

  4. W.... S....

I played this for my step kids on the way to school, 1996 I think. Great memories. Nostalgia

  5. m.... ....

I was introduced to this cut on WHUR 1981 while I was at Fort Belvoir TDY for 6 months

  6. m.... ....

WCLK FM 91.9 Atlanta introduced me to this lively tune in the early 80’s. Thanks for posting. Still have it on vinyl.

  7. C.... Q....

I've always wanted this last line to be "I must have you" instead of "I must go to."

Caught inside your spell it's your parade
    Refugees from love we masquerade
Though your lover is waiting at home
I have one of my own
    I must go to.

My parents are professional musicians and absolutely loved MT. They had every album on vinyl, and my brothers and I would play them over and over until they got scratched and skipped. I credit this exposure to their music at a young age to my appreciation of great music. Thanks mom and dad and Manhattan Transfer.

  9. G.... B....

Steve Gadd and Abe Laboriel, the true masters of groove along with a impressive vocal performance and a great production by the one and only Jay Graydon

  10. S.... m....

My brother Charles and I dug this. RIP Charles!

I always liked this song but I do not understand the meaning of its lyrics. Anyone to help me?

Cruising on the boulevard (street) lite and easy day. City lights the night, the wild inside of the street ladies (tiger in alley cat eyes) and while an Affair is happening ( boy you have a lover at home, I have one of my own).

    f.... a....

Yes, the answer is on the boulevard.

My dad had this album on 8-track and I would run it. Me and my sister would be screeching along in the living room.

  17. D.... C....

I use to run this song constantly back in the day. Still sounds every bit of the 1980's. So Good!!!!

    D.... C....

This is what real music is all about!

    D.... C....

    Isn't it great?

  18. R.... J....

Wonderful intro first song to one of their best albums. Reminds me of early weekend mornings in 1981 when the world was less complicated, a lot more fun and a million possibilities lie ahead!

  19. J.... G....

    pretty good music...

  20. J.... H....

An incredible song by an incredible group!!  Have seen them in Vegas 3 times and would go again if they ever came back.  Was going to see them in St George Utah last November but got sick and wound up in the hospital.  Please come back to Vegas!!

  21. H.... s....

Oh memories! Thank you so much for this wonderful song and many more! I'm a huge fan, and ever since Tim passed away, I feel I have to pray for him everday. I know he'll sing for everyone in Heaven until we're all reunited.

  22. l.... h....

What I like about this song is how intricate it is. The vocal arrangement and the bass line and the Jay Graydon guitar solo and the drums. Pure pleasure.

    l.... h....

I could listen to this song for hours!!! I never get tired of listening to it!!!

    l.... h....

This song is amazing!!! It gets your attention from the start and does not let go!
