Manhattan Transfer, The - Love For Sale Lyrics

Love for sale
Advertising young love for sale
Love that's fresh and still unspoiled
Love that's only slightly soiled
Love, yes come get my love because it's right here for sale

Who will buy
Who would like to sample my supply
Who's prepared to pay the price
For a trip to paradise
Love for sale

Let the poets pipe of love in their childish way
I've known every type of love better far than they
If you want the thrill of love
I've been through the mill of love
Old love, new love, every love but true

Love for sale
Advertising young love for sale
If you want to buy my wares
Follow me and climb the stairs
Love for sale

I used to do mobile disco's in the 70's & 80's catering mainly to middle age & upwards. Manhattan Transfer was one of my mainstays I played regularly because they covered such a diverse range of genres - even disco . . . The number of people who came up to the desk & asked who this brilliant sound was from is incalculable. Pastiche I think was one of their better albums . . . .

In the past(iche) year, Love For Sale has become my favorite MT number. You're absolutely right about the divine vocals, though I think you understate their brilliance somewhat :). I love how MT seem to transform the song from (originally) New York to a place like (legal) Nevada. Incidentally, the song charted when it was performed by Fred Waring and His Pennsylvanians (1931) - and Waring's lead baritone was Laurel Massé's uncle (or grandfather, I forget which).
