Manhattan Transfer, The - Gloria Lyrics

Gloria
Gloria
It's not Marie
Gloria
It's not Cherie
Gloria (Gloria)
But she's not in love with me

Can't you see
It's not Marie
Gloria
It's not Cherie
Gloria (Gloria)
But she's not in love with me

And maybe (maybe)
She'll want me (want me)
But who am I to know (who am I to know)
And maybe (ooh, maybe)
She'll want me (ooh, want me)
But who am I to know (who am I to know)
Oh...

Gloria (Gloria)
It's not Marie
Gloria (Gloria)
It's not Cherie
Gloria (Gloria)
'Cause she's not in love with me

Gloria!

  9. f.... g....

I sang doo wop for 30 years and thought our group the Premiers had the best sound and tightest harmony around. All 5 of us would take turn singing lead. The Manhattons easily would make us sound like a group on a street corner trying to harmonize.

  10. W.... M....

    Hot, hot, hot!

  11. P.... P....

This group and Alan Paul, as a lead on it, are wizards at this type of vocalizing. They love and learn well whether they are immersing themselves in doo wop, vocalese, jazz. This is great.

  12. D.... T....

Saw them do this live more than once. In person it is just amazing!

  13. b.... a....

This is one of the groups that I wanted to sound like and perform like when I attended a HS for the Performing Arts in the late 70s until 1980. Their vocals and harmonies are always tight as a group and as individuals, and they gave amazing live performances too. Billy Joel even pays tribute to them and this version of Gloria in his song: River of Dreams by singing a part of Gloria at the very end of it. That is a huge compliment and honor from a true music legend and they absolutely deserve it. In fact if I found out that someone like Billy Joel even thought about using my version of a song but he later decided not to use it, that would be the only award, accolade I would ever need in life
    as an Artist.

Great version... maybe the best version! However, I was never into the shirt ripping thing. lol

    J.... C....

Well, he toned it down a bit here, at least, LOL. In older shows the shirt came completely off. Here, he buttons the outer shirt back up and puts his jacket back on for the rest of the show, LOL.
