Hello Simon, I should of said Christmas 1976.  Check that.  It was my first year at secondary school 1976-1977.  I remember this being played constantly.  I remember Mull of Kintyre, which was probably as you say, the following Christmas 1977.  I remember asking our French teacher, Mr Moses, what Chanson D'amour meant. It's 'Love song'.
