because nobody is writing on this song anymore I do . This is on of my great favourites ever, bought in the early seventies and still I love this album.

Awesome! Classic! already my children and grandchildren admire them. Masterpiece! They don't write like that now.

Don't feel too bad, Jaxx. The song 'External -- Circles' from the Happy Rave 5 was the reason I looked up this tune as well =) I knew it was a remake of this tune for years and years, but only now thought to look up the original. So no worries!!

There used to be a second-hand vinyl record shop where I lived and bought this album as I liked Manfred Mann from their early days. I took it home and played this opening track. I knew instantly I had an absolute bargain and that was reinforced by hearing the rest of this brilliant and musically accomplished band.

Captain Beyond are mainly americans (xpt the singer) , they are considered as a sort of supergroup... with an ex-singer of Deep Purple , the drummer of the Johnny Winter Band , and 2 ex-members of big big sellers Iron Butterfly...

Captain Beyond recorded 2 excellent albums in 72 and 73 ...

UFO... they R a London Band...in 1977 and 1978, they recorded 2 lp's considered as classic of late 70s hard rock... Eddie Van Halen and Slash (among others) admitted that they were fans of those records.

Never heard those bands. I only know U.F.O by name.

You know how songs can trigger memories? This song brings back so many for me. On a bus, off on a school trip interstate. Me acknowledged as the bus DJ. It's night, we're heading out of town at night towards the freeway. The lights go off. "OK Derek, hit it!" I start with this. Bliss.

Grew up with music like this and Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Thin Lizzy and Rainbow. Now I might be a die hard metalhead in his early twenties. But I can always come back to this and all those bands I mentioned before!

I had the album back in the late 70's. The guy on the cover is coming in for a landing. The CD image must be cropped.

i remember recording manfred mann and supertramp on a old cassette...something i could listen too whilst driving around ..played it all the time great sound

I remember sitting in the car on a long car ride trying to figure out what was going on in that CD cover. I was about five, and I decided that he was running towards a cliff (because I had never seen land so flat that here was a straight horizon) and he could fly, but not very well. I would imagine the scene over and over trying to decide whether he would take off before he reached the edge of the cliff.

The cover is made by a Swedish guy called Michael Sanz. Great guy, met him several times.

weird thing is, we took music like this for granted back then, it was like, normal, we seriously believed that this was just a precursor of better things.............oh to be young again and so innocent
