The Grocery just happened in my town... I'm beginning to understand.

Those guys are genius!! Great transition between songs on this concept album. So intense.

I love this album but I can't make any sense of the lyrics. Like at all. Anyone want to humor a dullard and break down the meaning on this one for me?

The lyrics contain specific events and a protagonist(So you walk in the grocery and you unload several rounds
"Don't you dare move a muscle," cardboard cutout ads) but to me it's about the search for answers, and wanting to have faith "I want to know if there's a higher love oblivious to me" "feel the way our fathers felt when is swept them off their feet" He is asking if the answer is religion or belief in a higher power. "Want to hold a light to paradise and see if I could sleep" And this line in particular is saying that if he is able to "reach above the paradox" would it even make a difference. Would it bring him comfort or just more questions. The last line is "this is the only way to go, the only way" Kind of goes full circle to the first line of "I don't know where I'm going but I'm going anyway" we will never know the right answer in the moment

I'm 47 years old and this might honestly be the most beautiful piece of music I've ever heard.  You start with Sunshine and then transition into The Grocery.  It's an absolute masterpiece.

It's amazing how much these guys have matured and refined their sound. Some say this album was over-produced, but I disagree. I think it was produced to the level they have now graduated to. It's brilliant!

Just heard them for the first time last week I think and immediately loved them! I'm soooo tired of the garbage out there that society calls "music", "art" and "artists" ... people, who can't play an instrument, can't sing, have never taken any music theory and sell millions of albums to people, who can't appreciate music, because they are clueless what music really is. I am not talking about a specific genre but the fact that most of what's out there is all about shaking booty, how much money you've got and you've spent etc.
When I heard that rap became for the first time the most downloaded "music" I almost cried. Good Lord I use to love rap ... Africa Bambaataa, Curtis Blow, Rock Steady Crew, Grandmaster Flash and many others and now it's all garbage. Sorry for venting ... these guys are awesome, refreshing, unique, talented and right on time .. for me:))

Who are these pictures of?

Could someone tell me maybe their take on what the song is about and why they tie this violent imagery on photographs for the video? I know Andy Hull always has (or at least seems to) a very very specific motif behind his lyrics. I also noticed the graphic of the top of a mans head coming off and teeth coming out of the space is an imagery Andy used in a much earlier song about a dream he had (don't remember I'm new to Manchester Orchestra's work).

I couldn't figure out how the video ties in, (i'm terrible with that kind of thing) but if you look on Genius lyrics someone usually breaks down the song's meaning pretty good.

On the face of it, the song is about committing murder-suicide. The narrator has neglected his emotional health (as well as physical health, relationships, etc) as symbolized by the peeling wallpaper and general disrepair. The pictures on the wall are memories, or maybe just random meaningful images that run through the depressed and suicidal narrator's mind before he tries to kill himself (but of course, all it does is clicks). But he twists the memories in dark and creepy ways. There's a ridiculous number of images in the video, I imagine they were just picked because "this is something that a depressed person might think about".

That's how I see it at least. There's additional layers, I'm sure.
