Manchester Orchestra - Allentown Lyrics
I am on a journey to discover what it's like
To be free of all my demons, to be free of all my demons
Contents on the counter, knocked out of their place
A late eighties biker bar, just doing its thing
I traded you for Vicodin, just doing my thing
I used to be a Lawyer, now I just talk a lot
I'm the King of Allentown, this parking lot
I am on a journey, to discover what it's like
To be free of all my demons, to be free of all my demons
While it don't effect me, not like it used to
I am on a journey, to discover what it's like
To be free
(Contents on the counter, knocked out of their place)
To be free of all my demons, to be free of all my demons
(A late eighties biker bar, just doing it's thing)
While it don't effect me, not like it used to
(The Drugs from all out parents, stuck inside our Veins)
I am on a journey, to discover what it's like
(I traded you for Vicodin, just doing my thing)
To be free of all my demons, to be free of all my demons
(I used to be a Lawyer, now i just talk a lot)
I am on a journey, to discover what it's like
(I'm the King of Allentown, this parking lot)
I used to be a lawyer, now I just talk a lot
(I am on a journey, to discover what it's like)
I'm the King of Allentown, this parking lot
(To be free of all my demons, to be free of all my demons)

Manchester Orchestra Allentown Comments
Does anybody else notice the acoustic guitar melody at 1:20 is very similar to another song I just can’t put my finger on it! If someone can figure it out please let me know.
I wish i could tell both Andy and Brian to their faces how glad i am they made this song together it really hits home as does all their music. I've really loved all the work they've both put out over the years. I just want to sincerely express my gratitude to two of my favorite songwriters for the great music you both give to the world.

Come back to dallas 😭😭💙💙
Sounds like the antlers
Is the song title a reference to Allentown from Pennsylvania by any chance?
this slaps
Is “Allentown” by any chance a reference to Billy Joel’s Allentown? Both Allentowns are pretty hopeless with a seemingly bland future.
Damn these lyrics
cool video. :)
This is beautiful
This song is not a home, it's not the Front Bottoms I know,
What a sad bop

Isn't it sorta like pyotr
I found your music from tik tok, and now I love it.
well fuck me, this is beautiful
why did NONE of you assholes tell me about this?? this is awesome!
Saw both of you guy sin Columbus and it made me feel like the older I get the more I feel like this music shouldn't mean as much to me as it does. Then I hear something like this, and it gets me through a rough day and I realize that age won't fix my mental state and music won't either, but it really helped me get to the next day and I wanted to thank you for that.
Oh god. These lyrics hurt in such a good way.
O________O! Oh snap! TWO BANDS I LOVE DOING MUSIC TOGETHER!?!?!?!?!?!

lyrics are so simple yet devastatingly relatable
I'll remember this one 'till I die, thanks
Got a call from chief. He told me this is it.
new jersey gang rise up. this state is garbage but at least we have this, danny devito, and the leeds devil.
Thought I was getting a billy Joel cover. Boy was I wrong.
This song has such an odd, but powerful message. An entire book could be written to the theme of this song.
What is this? What is happening? TFB × MO!? I'm freaking out man!!!
this is so different but so pretty i love it. in some cases creating different content is out of place and unenjoyable. however, in this case, the content is a different taste of what they can do. i love it!!
Saw you guys in Houston! You guys are even better live!
Great late night driving song.

For anyone listening, i suggest looking into what made Allentown famous! It's interesting and really highlights the vibe of this song
What made allentown famous?
@Don Birnam I was hoping someone would ask! So, Allentown is a town in Pennsylvania that became very famous in the early 1980's. There was a recession going on at this time, which ment this factory town had a large population of people in financial struggle. A local AM radio station was changing it's genre style and wanted to advertise this change, so they bought a billboard and held a contest as follows: the station would select three people to live on their billboard, and the last person to come down would win a mobile home. This was very enticing and they got thousands and thousands of entries mailed in to the station. One man submitted himself nearly 4000 seperate times! He, and two other men, were selected to live on the billboard for the competition. They each had a tent, a phone, a chemical toilet, a pulley system to bring things up and down from the billboard, and something to keep them busy. They also had friends and family on the ground designated to help.
The competition lasted a very long time, though I can't remember if it was only two months or two years, with only one man being disqualified for being caught selling marijuana. The radio station eventually called the whole competition off, giving each man a mobile home and a truck.
This competition garnered international attention! With calls to the contestants coming in from all over the world. Billy Joel wrote his own song about it as well!
You can see these little references reflected in some of these lyrics and I thought it was really cool :)
@Magpie Mailer thats really cool i did not know that...im alsp from allentown haha born and raised never heard that story tho, thats cool. I heard allentown was pretty diverse and welcoming as far as social scenes went in the 80s and 90s. Id like to know more about the influence for this song. Heard it on the philly radio station earlier tonight, pretty good was like holy crap he just said king of allentown. I heard there is an allentown nj as well i dunno tho
@Magpie Mailer got caught selling that A-town brown haha. Thats funny. Its a good town. Man if they stayed there for 2 years for the competition thsts crazy , even two months, guess the guy needed some extra income haha. Anyway allentown is a cool place
Couldn’t be any better
Pretty song, but the melody is reminiscent of "I Can't Make You Love Me" by Bonnie Raitt.
I AM FEELING SOMETHING FROM THIS
All these TFB "huge fans" in the comments asking wtf happened to Brian and can't hear his voice throughout the entire song smh
when does brian sing?
Frontchester manbottoms!
My friend got me into this band and I have no regrets. Such a stunning song
"Allentown" debuted at #26 on the New Alternative 40 Chart this week!
sounds a bit like keaton henson
Beautiful
100% a Manchester Orchestra song featuring TFB rather than a TFB song but still so awesome! Wouldn't mind the next record taking a cue from this instead of End of Summer.
Lol..."you like it?"
This shit just made me drop my joint!! Invaluable work boys!

No matter what different sound any of these bands try, they kill it. Will follow whatever art they make
Absolutely beautiful holy shit man
Very surprising coming from tfb, but it is a collab. Extremely serine A+
Not my jam, but once I heard Brian's voice my ears perked up 😆
I lost her and she’ll never forgive me and now I’m on a journey to to discover what it’s like to be free of all my demons...Thanks tfb.
Loved seeing you all in Raleigh. More TFB than MO. MO’s audience really sucked. Rudest people for such beautiful music.
Fyer Bear I was near the right side of the stage and it seemed like everyone around me was just so rude. The dudes behind me were continuously yelling at this mom, like way too much. Dude beside me poured his beer down my hoodie for no reason. Like the whole thing. I enjoyed it though.
@Rep ReviewsJ jfc dude I'm sorry that happened, that's lame. I would have fought somebody, fucking Raleigh kids man hahahaha
Fyer Bear Dude I appreciate that so fucking much. It’s totally cool though 👌🏼 I had a fucking blast. TFB was all I ever hoped for
Okay but, on the other side everyone was super chill and relaxed. Don't throw the whole crowd down because of the circle jerk you were surrounded in.
Leighann Gwinn I’m not throwing down the whole other side. During Manchester orchestra the side I was on sucked. During TFB it was alright, Still rowdy but okay. Not throwing anyone down, I had a great time.
Spent the morning throwing up, this new song made it all worth it, 20/10 v nice boys
Two of my all time favorites together. Fucking insane. So glad I got to see them this tour in NC and DC.
Brian sounds like a different person when he’s not ‘yelling’ and it’s amazing that it has taken this long for him to use this kind of ‘singing voice.
thats not even Brian singing bro
@Adam Stroud he wrote and is singing in the chorus
@Adam Stroud obviously it isn't all him, but Brian sings later in the song
@m. lubey yes you are right but honestly I can't really hear him that clearly. Maybe Thats why he sounds so different
@George Capes true true true. I just mean he's not the prominent voice at all.
This is a really pleasant turn! Thanks so much for continuing to put out music, TFB helps me a lot! I appreciate it greatly
my depression is cured
Anyone know what key this song is in
My girlfriend broke up with me recently and this song hits me in the feels. I'm trying to find myself without her and I must say that I am in intense battle with my demons and I really need help.
She doesn't define you, stay strong brother.
It's essential that you realize 2 things: your own self worth, and that she didn't appreciate it.
Multiply your perceived worth by the number of people who love you to see she is the smallest variable in the equation of your life.
hope life’s looking up for you buddy 💓
There are plenty of girls out there bro.
Reminds me of the layered vocals in Flashlight. Love this song so much.
masterpiece
...to be free of all my demons...
i never knew i needed this combo but i’m very SATISFIED
