Malmsteen, Yngwie - Soldier Without Faith Lyrics

Now the battle is over, the clouds're hanging low
Dead bodies lie on the ground
Marched into slaughter, lost souls fought in vain
No glory or pride to be found

Gotta get out of here, don't want to be around
Trying to find my way home

Gotta get out of here, don't want to be around
Trying to find my way home

Fighting for honour and medals of gold
But, they were to kill or be killed
Slaying the enemy, not knowing why
Keep low and fire at will

Gotta get out of here, don't want to be around
Trying to find my way home

Gotta get out of here, don't want to be around
Trying to find my way home

Lost out in action, long gone forever
Just a boy that died in vain
His mother is crying, his father not proud
Twisted gray faces in the rain

Gotta get out of here, don't want to be around
Trying to find my way home

Gotta get out of here, don't want to be around
Trying to find my way home...

Malmsteen, Yngwie Soldier Without Faith Comments
  1. D.... ....

One of my absolute favourite Malmsteen songs, probably the best from this album (imo his best album)

  2. D.... ....

When you're drinking and listening to the jams and expecting to hear the next song in order as you've always heard it, waiting to hear the chords and getting the f'k up ads instead is very frustrating.

  3. Z.... R....

    HAIL YNGWIE!

  4. G.... L....

President Trumps favorite battle song MAGA country music Trump 2020 KAG

  5. K.... S....

on his 3 first solo albums he had a very pure organic tone, went downhill after that.. the eclipse had some of those. other than that, he should have sticked to a purer tone.

  6. S.... ....

on fire! He would be wise to hire this band again and stop with his wall of Marshalls and bullshit band.

  7. S.... ....

lots of holdsworth influence on this solo.

  8. M.... ....

  12. P.... ....

This song is basically Yngwie saying to every other guitarist, don't even try to fuck with me

  13. L.... ....

Can’t get over how aggressive that fucking intro riff is. That tone is fucking Godlike.

  14. I.... P....

I remember when I first listened to this song... again, and again, and again... That night I was also hearing it during my sleep... I remember waking up next morning, and still I could hear the harmonies and the melodies of this song in my head!... Truly magical song!

  17. N.... ....

The best channeling of Allan Holdsworth in a Yngwie Malmsteen solo. My favorite of his young days.

    N.... ....

Have you heard his rendition of "In the dead of night" on "Inspiration"?

    N.... ....

@Slicklickz Yes I made a video of it on my channel comparing it to Allan Holdsworth. Chevk it out!

No I just wonder what Aryans have to do with this.

For a short but correct definition of the term "Aryan", let's trust Mr Tolkien himself : http://www.lettersofnote.com/2012/03/i-have-no-ancestors-of-that-gifted.html

    Nazi punks fuck off.

    G.... L....

There is no such thing as Aryan. And Yngwie has brown eyes and brown hair, lmfao.

    p.... ....

Saw him a few weeks ago. He was really good that night. Played out of his mind.

    p.... ....

Yes Yngwie was much more inspired when he was younger!

I was playing Red Faction on Impossible Mode going for the Platinum and running from the reactor to the escape pod the lyrics "Gotta get out of here, don't wanna be around, gotta find my way home" sprung into my mind so i played this song for motivation and was amazed to find the beginning of this song is the same as the Red Faction calm storm theme

    R.... ....

Holy shit you're right. Great game too

  28. t.... ....

Cold to the bone, so unique that no one can come close to his level

in this moment Yngwie was numer one! stop

  31. b.... ....

    best of the best

  32. I.... ....

If he sucked so much .. Then why do many of today's and even in the same period greatest guitarist ..List Yngwie as one of their greatest influences ?? .. ..But the ones that can play a half assed lick are the ones that criticize .. Hmm .. Then plug the fuck in and show us what you got !!!!.. I am one of those half assed guitar players and he set a precedent I can never achieve .. I never developed a negative criticism of this absolute master .. The only thing that came to me .. How in the hell will I ever learn to be 1/100th as good ??? .. Ironically ..my band opened up for Yngwie in the late 80's and all I thought was .. I hope he isn't backstage and can hear what we are playing .. It can cause severe brain damage !! .. Not because it is that good !! .. but because it wasn't deserving to share the same stage

  33. B.... B....

The intro solo is enough to melt faces and discourage many a player ....then enter the main solo... just put your guitar down and back away slowly and 'find your way home'.

  34. B.... j....

Most of you's are saying he can't do this kind of playing anymore, Well your right an he never could. This is in the studio where you can chop cut mix anything you wanted to. But bringing it live you just can't do it. That's why he always has a different lead to every song this has been pasted together an no one could do it live standing up..

    B.... j....

What?Did you not see the Video in Japan from this time period?

    B.... j....

theres videos of him playing this live. The reason he cant play this is because he annihilated his picking hand 800 times

    B.... j....

If he played the parts in studio then i see no reason he could not play it live if he really wanted 2. Its him playing and its tasty as all hell!! He has stamina ya know

  35. I.... T....

The rythm guitar sounds like slaying

  36. D.... L....

Yngwie was really on fire on this album. He might have written better and more successful songs but the riffs and solos on this record are his best. He was a very tasteful player back then. Going from fast to slow and not just full speed all the time. And most bandmembers were still living at his house at this point so I guess it was a fruitful time.

  37. .... ....

    Best album ever !

  38. D.... G....

The battle is over, the clouds hanging low
Me smoking kush on the ground

  39. S.... C....

Jeff Scott Soto remains Yngwie's best vocalist.

    S.... C....

I like boals a bit more but holy cow is Soto legendary

    S.... C....

I also prefer Boals but Soto is awesome too!!
I love his voice on some Alcatrazz stuff they did in the earlier live shows!

  40. D.... B....

Beginning riff is so killer. I wish he would have stayed in the riff longer before starting the intro solo. Yngwie's riff playing is the best. I actually appreciate that more than his great solos.

    D.... B....

his riffing and chord work are so underrated

    D.... B....

    his riffs are so metal

    D.... B....

I totally agree. I love a lot more of his riffs than I do his solos.

  45. E.... E....

My favourite from this album. Great riff.

  46. m.... ....

    hes released the fucking fury!!

  47. f.... e....

This song solo, the Overture 1383 coda, little savage solo, icarus solo, crying electric part... some of the best moments.

    f.... e....

for electric string Jesus dude! You know your malmsteen! You just listed a perfect list. Oveture 1383 especially, last 2 .mins, nothing pressed to vinyl even comes close to that passion and Crying! The contrast from all that feeling of rhe nylon to the pure passion and screams of rhe electric parts. Hia solo in Dreaming just about rips your heart out if your damn chest, little savage, that damn interlude OMFG! man you got it. Anyone tgat says he has no heart all speed just does not know Yngwie!. What about My Own Enemy! That soli wails! You Don't Remember! Viking! Disciples Of Hell! Hold On! Omg 2 many 2 list, and the Alcatraz years! BIG Foot. Kree Nakorie Hiroshima mon amor. Hes hands sown the best there will ever be at pure passion. Fact!!!!

  48. f.... e....

In the solo is like as Allan Holdsworth had posessed him.

  49. S.... X....

the best Yngwie song in my opinion of course ...so much memories on this song , god i am feeling old .

  50. J.... D....

OMG what a song. This guy is not human.

  51. t.... s....

Guys, what mode does he use to improvise over in the solo ?? Is is lydian ??

    t.... s....

he usually uses phrygian, but there may be more modes in the solo because it sounds really interesting

    t.... s....

Sounds to me like F harmonic minor straight up.

    t.... s....

The Dominant mode of Harmonic minor is the same as Phrygian but has a major 3rd instead of a minor 3rd.It's sometimes referred to as "Spanish Phrygian or "Phrygian Major".

  53. M.... B....

The solo is one of Yngwie's best!!

  55. S.... G....

He used the Pick Of Destiny on this one !!

  56. k.... ....

  57. k.... ....

trying to find my way home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  58. P.... -....

One of YJM's best songs. Jeff Scott Soto (on vocals) at his best here in this song.

  59. J.... V....

SWF...1st guitar lead passages I ever learned note for note/expression for expression...because there was no way to improve upon them...they are nonpareil...imperial and immaculate...Ave YJM!

  60. D.... K....

    great song

  61. W.... S....

    Technosoft brought me here.
    I was'nt dissapointed!

  62. f.... ....

Best Yngwie song. but Jeff Scott Soto sucks...his generic falsetto tries to match Bruce Dickinson. Maybe its copying flattery at its best.

    f.... ....

I can't hear any Falsetto? JSS's high notes here all sound like head voice to me.

    f.... ....

    You're
     an idiot

    f.... ....

Soto does an ok scream but his vocal is kinda flat and generic. He's OK

    f.... ....

    yeah hes no dickinson

    f.... ....

That must be some really good crack you're smoking.

  63. M.... L....

if you want freedom then here it is.

if your a metal head or just love metal, then yngwie is your Jesus Christ!

    M.... L....

or your just don't believe in him? lol

    M.... L....

its just a figure of speech.

    M.... L....

What a stupid cretin u are ! Go and fall onto a spike pls !

    M.... L....

That's because Christianity has been ingrained on your conscience and made you feel guilty. God doesn't exist and I sincerely doubt Christ ever existed. If Christ did exist he was just a radical and a heretic; albeit a good man in the same way John Lennon and others were.

    D.... D....

In a guitar interview I read one time, yngwie stated that he heard his influence in that record. Especially considering he released his guitar magazine demo which was then played on regular rotation on California unofficial radio stations during 1983. I’ve also heard a number of times where Dave mustaine has used arpeggio structures from that very demo.

    l.... b....

i am afraid he is...but he moves the strings perfectly

  68. d.... a....

That solo!.. It´s not 100 % perfect, but still it´s on my top ten solos of all time! And the man is totally self-taught! The opening solo, though, that starts at 01.34, is pure perfection and just magic! It´s just devastating!

    d.... a....

    +Gabriel Iversen
As far as I know I´m not crazy;) I´m one of the probably tens of thousands of guys all of over the world that was so impressed an inspired by Yngwies playing in the early days that we got obsessed by practising our instruments. And I´m also from Sweden like Yngwie - and had heard of him even before he went to USA. This is and has always been my very favourite song by Yngwie and I can easily pick out 10 solos by Yngwie that in my opinion are just perfect, but this has it´s ups and some weaker moments. Of course it´s a great solo and extremely difficult to pull off, but it is not 100 % perfect in my opinion (but the song is - and thats my problem and point!). I have played guitar for over 35 years and I have made covers of some of Yngwies songs (even here on Youtube), so I know what he is capable of. It takes real balls to try to cover this song - and thats mainly because the solo is so hard to pull off. The feeling and vibe of the solo is suberb though.

    d.... a....

YNGWIES BEST SOLO. SO INSPIRED SO DEVASTATING. AMAZAING FEEL AND OFF THE CUFF TAKE!

    d.... a....

How do you define a 100% perfect solo? Any examples of those?

  69. B.... B....

    3:13
one of the fucking most insane solos youll ever hear

  70. J.... P....

Best solo EVER, NO one comes close...........

    J.... P....

@Eric Presley best yngwie solos were played during alcatrazz era.. specially the solo of " Suffer Me" and " Kree Nakoorie".

    J.... P....

@Bobby Rodriguez jazz and rock-fusion are much more complex to play than metalnor rock in general, because they have much more irregular rythmic base and are quite hard to follow on. Not trying to shit on metal or rock guitarrists..but technically they have nothing on jazz, fusion, finger style or flamenco players. Someone like Vicente Amigo, Tommy emmanuel or Alan Holdsworth are several ladders above Malmsteen in every department...

    J.... P....

I love this solo! I think I Am A Viking is probably the greatest though.

    J.... P....

    @janderson2000 Yeah sure hahahahah!

    J.... P....

    pretty magical!

    A.... S....

    @Fire and Ice I didn't realize a young female can't like guitar in 21th century. I apologize. :D

    A.... S....

    @Pamela May Apology accepted.

  73. L.... Z....

    FUCK YEAH

  74. D.... T....

I forgot how good this tune is!

  75. L.... ....

    Vintage Yngvie= The best Yngvie ! :)

  76. P.... S....

by far one of the best tracks on this breakthrough Rising Force album, some prefer Goran Edman or Mark Boals , each singer in the Rising Force takes Yngwie's music to another level: Jeff Scott Soto is without a doubt top-flight vox, Joe Lynn Turner had such a brief time in this band & helped them climb higher on the charts back when charts meant something. \m/\m/

    P.... S....

    @Christopher Johnson well said

    P.... S....

Chris J This is from his second album Marching Out.

    P.... S....

True yet the 1st album was mostly instrumentals I think there were only two songs, it's been a long time , used to have all his CDs but mostly a fan of marching out, Trilogy, Odyssey, Eclipse ,Fire & Ice and the 87-92 era after that it's still awesome but with a few downsides as far as dougie white's singing. Goran Edman had a legal battle with Yngwie that sucks because they were such a great team back then.

No hay duda: este pibe hizo un pacto con el diablo.
De otra manera no se puede explicar su talento.

No doubt this boy made a pact with the devil.
Otherwise, you can not explain his talent.

Like Paganini you mean? Sorry, but I think the answer is much more simple: he comes from a very musical family that incouraged him a lot and he worked his ass of for many years with nothing but perfection in sight. He knew from a very young age that he wanted to be the best (heavy) guitar player in the world - and he did not just sit and wait for that to happen (that is like "sell his soul to the devil"): he played obsessivly from a very young age. Nobody else at that time (in this genre) had that total focus and discipline.

    A.... R....

    +dB ambi-metal project

Dear David: Perhaps the language separates us, but they are not the essential concepts. Say "sell his soul to devil" is simply a metaphor for a talent out of the ordinary. And it was not Paganini was Goethe's Faust who did it. I share with you the exceptional talents are not the result of random or devilish pacts but an effort and an obsessive perfection achieved by musicians like this. I send you a metallic hug from Argentina.

    A.... R....

    +Angel René Serra
OK: good, we agree! But Paganini was really "accused" of having sold his soul to the devil.

  78. k.... ....

When i first bought this album (on vinyl) back in the day, shortly after release, i have to say that, after Malmsteen himself, i was stunned by the drumming of Anders Johansson and, what a fucking revelation Jeff Scott Soto was, on vocals! Although, the whole band simply rocks here! Stunning album, in every respect. Love it. RIP Marcel Jacob...   \m/
