Heard this many, many years ago while working in the garage listening to the radio. They had just played a Motley Crue album in it's entirety and then they played this and I was just in awe. I parked it in my young brain and years later it haunted me until I tracked it down and then the awe was back. I love this song so much.

By his own admission, Malmsteen isn't much of a lyricist, and his frequent use of occult and pagan imagery isn't as effective at producing a dark, gothic mood as his compositions and guitar playing are.

Jeff Scott Soto should have sung more than these 2 song on this album.

It was the record company who wanted an instrumental album. Yngwie actually wanted more songs with vocals than just 2.

Randy actually wanted to leave rock and roll altogether and practice classical guitar . He once told Ozzy he wanted to teach at his mum's school when they weren't on tour. Nice guy he was, unlike a lot of other guitarists of his generation.

Was listening to Yngwie´s "I´m a viking" and the drum mix sounded much better that this (wet snare sound still there but it is more focused).

Yeah, it was typical in the 80´s ...We can hear a good example in the Ozzy albums recorded in the 80 ´s , so it was not a question of limitations, as mencioned Grassieb in a previous comentary, but simply made in purpose.Another godd example is Flush the Fashion , Alice Cooper,1980,it was a tendance.That is why Iron Maiden Lps from the 80s still sound good, beacuse the sound was clear and natural, excpt of course in the volume and compression, higher and higher LP after LP,THE LOUDNESS WAR!!!

For my taste also the snare is too in loud and messes with the overall rhythm. But it also true that this was the typical wet snare sound of the eighties.

Powersalve by Iron maiden was recorded the same year and the drums sound impecable...Who´s next? by the Who 1972, the same , great recording and production, as well as every Led Zep album...etc

it is still my favorite Malmsteen LP, but the way the drums are recorded is quite bad for me, well, the main problem is the snare, the should remix this album, in my opinion, but I repeat, the main problem resides in the drums track.

This is probably my favorite solo of his. Instead of that regular legato sound, he does a more distinct attack sound and it goes for like a minute straight.

Really true dude, this album kickass!, but you should listen to Jason Becker's "Perpetual Burn" it's other kind of neoclassical but still kicking ass.

As much as I like Rising Force, it pales in comparison to the neoclassical MASTERPIECE that is the entire Japan concert with the orchestra...that concert and the music therein is what inspired me to once again, after a long hiatus from guitar, become completely and utterly devoted to it once more.

For me the inspiration to play guitar is Yngwie and the classics, not rock or any of the ubiquitous pentatonic boxes.

There's something incredibly sexy about the harmonic minor scale...you go from a regular minor scale, change one note to a sharp, and all of a sudden you've got a scale and chord progression which transcends boundaries...
It really is quite amazing.

It's THE neoclassical album...neoclassical IS Yngwie...Yngwie IS neoclassical. He's so awesome he has his own genre.
