Maines, Natalie - Mother Lyrics

Mother do you think they'll drop the bomb?
Mother do you think they'll like this song?
Mother do you think they'll try to break my balls?
Oooh ahh, mother should I build the wall?

Mother should I run for President?
Mother should I trust the government?
Mother will they put me in the firing line?
Oooh ahh, is it just a waste of time?

Hush now baby, baby, don't you cry.
Mama's gonna make all of your nightmares come true.
Mama's gonna put all of her fears into you.
Mama's gonna keep you right here under her wing.
She won't let you fly, but she might let you sing.
Mama will keep baby cozy and warm.
Oooh baby, oooh baby, oooh baby,
Of course mama's gonna help build the wall.

Mother do you think she's good enough, for me?
Mother do you think she's dangerous, to me?
Mother will she tear your little boy apart?
Oooh ah, mother will she break my heart?

Hush now baby, baby, don't you cry.
Mama's gonna check out all your girlfriends for you.
Mama won't let anyone dirty get through.
Mama's gonna wait up 'til you get in.
Mama will always find out where you've been.
Mama's gonna keep baby healthy and clean.
Oooh baby, oooh baby, oooh baby,
You'll always be baby to me.

Mother didn't need to be so high...

  12. J.... H....

Is this Trump's new theme song?

  13. L.... F....

Impossible not to get emotional with this version (or the song itself), especially if it's a man (young or adult) listening... :D

  14. M.... W....

It's country, but the Pubk Floyd lyrics seem to jam the cultural radar of country music. Excellent.

  15. d.... t....

Thank you. I didn't even know about this one!

  16. r.... Z....

Her voice takes me away from my own self induced b.s.

  17. J.... H....

Loooong time Pink Floyd fanatic here, old enough to have been privileged to see them in concert.... I don't know what to think, up is down, white is black..... this is better than the original....

  18. d.... ....

I love Natalie Maines. She didn't grasp this song though. It has to be sang through the eyes of a son.

    d.... ....

dst I have had this idea that this song should be sung in a duet. one to sing the part of the son and another to sing the part of the mom

    d.... ....

    Bilbo490
when Roger Waters sings this live he has a woman sing the parts from the mother

  19. L.... P....

found her on a Simpsons episode!

    L.... P....

    Last Panda which one

    L.... P....

Bilbo490 season 27 episode 14, she's the singing voice of Hettie

    L.... P....

Same. What an amazing song at the end and it ended too quickly. She just gained a fan.

  20. J.... E....

I put this UP THERE with the posts of Kate Bush with F'ing David Gilmore doing COMFORTABLY NUMB @ a charity in '02!

  21. B.... M....

Love Pink Floyd and this cover of hers is just heaven!

  22. 5.... ....

Gives me shivers.  Thank you for this wonderful cover.

  23. W.... C....

thanks Munchkin, love it, it just showed up on my favorites.. how awesome is that?

    W.... C....

@Wayne Carson That is awesome indeed ;)

  24. A.... d....

I'm going to buy this album this week. I wish I knew about it sooner.

    I love this girl

EDIT: I need to edit this post. I'm looking at Natalie Maines newer album "Mother". This song appears to be off of a collaboration album

    A.... d....

Thnx for sharing this. Great tone in her voice - perhaps a touch too lush a production for my tastes, but great all the same. Had to find out who was on lap steel guitar & it was as I thought - the talented Mr. Harper: http://www.discogs.com/Various-West-Of-Memphis-Voices-For-Justice/release/6216049

  25. O.... F....

Very good, albeit quite similar to the original.

  26. R.... ....

Hi, i think you like listening to good music, have you visited my website? thus i came “with a gift”.
I’m trying to locate things to enhance my guitar skills ! I supposed its okay if you would share a special few of your ideas!!

  27. A.... ....

Pink Floyd - Mother (Auud cover)

  28. P.... M....

I honestly believe Bob is a closet gay. Come on man! Embrace your sexuality! There is plenty of room for a gun freak wearing camouflage and combat gear at your local annual gay pride parade! Man up!

  29. P.... M....

Oh god! Not Bob E Lee again! Shut up you moron!

  30. L.... M....

    this is killer!

  31. M.... M....

    Bring it, Natalie!

  32. A.... S....

Her voice lacks the emotion that Roger Water's created within this song.

    A.... S....

Andrew Sorensen I was always a fan of the original recordings with Gilmour on vocals

    A.... S....

This might be one of the best covers I've ever heard...You're just another throwback naysayer.

    A.... S....

Roger's often out of tune, off key, nasally, overly british sounding talk-singing does nothing for me. Thankfully the musician in the band sang the melodic pieces, beautifully as usual. If Roger only had not been such a megalomaniac. He dismissed the brilliance Gilmour added with his musicianship (which roger lacked sorely) and how David did his song writing with his Guitar. Nobody raves about Roger's solo work which says this band was best when collaborating. I'm so happy Gilmour and mason, then wright won the rights to the name and toured. The MLOR tour was the best 70,000 seat stadium event I've ever seen bar none. (while Roger was playing the 3000 seat auditorium next door) The music on MLOR is also beautiful and an up to date, mature Pink Floyd. It was time to move beyond writing for teenagers (you bought a guitar to punish your Ma) as Roger did. Signs of Life was a perfect PF sound to open the album and concert. Learning to Fly, On the Turning Away and many others rival any earlier PF songs except those where collaboration was the key to the song's success or Comfortably Numb which David brought to the studio in guitar form, the framework you might say. The DB was also a great album. Filled with great songs. Who can't listen to "Keep Talking" repeatedly.

    A.... S....

Maybe she's trying something different 🤔 Open your mind before you open your mouth😂

  33. s.... b....

If you want to know where she gets her chops fronm , you need to check her pops out, Loydd Maines a member of the Texas music hall of fame.

    s.... b....

I saw Lloyd up close and personal at Claremont Folk Music Center.  Nice, humble man who can PLAY!   He accompanied Terri Hendrix and they were great!  Especially Lloyd

  34. L.... K....

Bob E Lee, I guess you didn't check out the Chicks "Taking the Long Way" album. "It was released on May 23, 2006 in the U.S. and on June 12, 2006 worldwide. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. It sold over 2.5 million copies in the U.S., being certified 2x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America as of July 11, 2007. It won 5 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year in February 2007."  Nearly all of the songs were written by the chicks including Natalie...

    L.... K....

Laura, you just can't argue with Stupid AND Crazy.  He will never acknowledge that he is wrong.

  35. N.... B....

Natalie Maines is a heroine! A wonderful influence on America, hence her popularity. She is a tool of the forces of creativity trying to bring some balance to a world gone evil. Buck Fush! And Obomer! And all the other psychopaths that have ruled and destroyed America since 22 November 1963.

  36. T.... K....

Amazing rendition by a talented singer.  And...Bush was WRONG!!!

  37. C.... ....

She sings "Mother, should I run for president?" My answer: Maines for America

  38. R.... F....

Ah, see, apparently, you don't understand that when someone says "break my balls", it's an expression that means "give me a hard time". It's not literal, so it's not necessary for the person using the expression to actually be in possession of a scrotum. I hope that answers your ignorant question.

  39. C.... M....

Her voice sounds better here than it did in the Dixie Chicks

  40. K.... W....

Saw this live. It was impeccable.

  41. F.... O....

You mean the way Sinead O'Conner did with WR in the Live version of The Wall? DumBass.

  42. S.... G....

Mother, should I trust the government??

  43. T.... J....

    This is an inspiring version.

  44. b.... ....

great song sung by NM. Bought it off of Amazon.

  45. a.... ....

    my god her voice.:( awsome

  46. c.... ....

i like Natalie but her doing a Floyd song wasn't a good idear

    c.... ....

  47. D.... ....

Total eargasm. I NEED THIS ALBUM!

  48. P.... ....

Times like these life provides a real voice of reason and distinguished thought, Natalie Maines is more than a singer, she's the last standing role model for new mothers around the world. To believe otherwise is proof of your evil soul. Her article in Rolling Stone issued June 6th 2013 explains why the Chicks are never going to Dixie again.

  49. B.... W....

It's a good version but she is better with the Dixie Chicks...Sadly they were talented together and should get back together.

  50. O.... ....

this is a very good version of a great great song

  51. S.... W....

She sounds great. But the chicks where probably the best country trio of all time. You brought the best out of each other. It was like you knew how to light the fuse. And let the music explode. I miss the chicks

  52. R.... I....

I love love love Pink Floyd and I have to say this is a great cover. The keys through out it capture the many different sounds that Rick Wright used in Floyd. Using the steal guitar on the solo is also a great twist and representation from the works of Gilmour. Her voice is powerful and you can tell this song means a great deal to her givin her past conflicts with Americans.

  53. J.... ....

    Wow, I'm pleasantly surprised...it's haunting.

  54. m.... p....

    I love this!! LOVE!

  55. D.... C....

Love your voice and a woman really should be singing this song now.

  56. L.... M....

    I'm sorry :C

  57. c.... ....

    Not available in "my country"

  58. L.... M....

    No, I didn't.

  59. k.... ....

Yeah, thanks for pointing that out.

  60. R.... K....

Yeah and it was damn good.

  61. k.... ....

Yes you did - in not so many words ;)

  62. k.... ....

Now your're calling me names? Don't take it personal because I don't like what you like. It's not you up there singing. Everyone should be entitled to express their opinion without being attacked.

  63. 1.... ....

I'm sorry it doesnt meet your snoop dog standard of what music should be you TARD..........dupty doo

  64. G.... ....

Just a pity they left out the solo, which is kind of the icing on the cake. Still, I love this cover.

  65. m.... ....

I was really curious to hear how Natalie Maines' new stuff would sound now that's she's gone solo. I love it. :-) When someone has got talent, they've got it- alone or accompanied. Thanks for uploading this.

  66. D.... T....

    Glad you BACK Natalie

  67. L.... M....

    Did I said I didn't like your comment? Don't think so :)

  68. k.... ....

I won't. And if you don't like my comment, don't read it. :)

  69. T.... S....

Didn't like this cover as much as Sinead O'Conner's version and yes Sinead definitely can sing "Mother do you think they'll try to break my balls?" because she has a pair.

  70. L.... M....

If you don't like it, don't listen to it. Life can be that simple.

  71. M.... ....

Natalie thanks for coming back, and thanks for speaking your mind back then. This is the price you pay in the "the land of free speech "God bless you. Love

  72. A.... T....

Thank You ! All the other "live" recordings were SO noisy.

  73. k.... ....

There is a reason why this wasn't on YouTube - it sucks so bad. And why is a girl singing about someone breaking her balls?

  74. J.... A....

Natalie.......reluctant as you may be, you are a hero to many of us. My prayers go with you everywhere you go.

  75. R.... ....

    Awesome thank you posting!!!

  76. J.... J....

Well done Natalie, hope to hear more in the future.
