Madness - I Pronounce You Lyrics

There's a feeling in your stomach a light trembling at the knees
Not even knowing who the luck fellow might be
Bridesmaids are cleaning the court-house bell
Horse-driven carriages wait patiently in hell

Happiness has been arranged for some time in July
Invitations have been sent I'm so bitter I could cry
Congratulations flown in from a long-lost friend
For the big occasion regretting that he can't attend
And as family tradition is busy making up your mind
Gallantly standing draped in his holy shroud
God's representative mumbles to a tearful crowd

I now pronounce you
I now pronounce you

Mother father wake up you've overlooked one thing
The daughter you planned for for years
Won't get to wear your ring
Instead she'll be running off into the dark of night
Straight into hungry arms that long to hold her tight
And as family tradition is busy making up your mind
Gallantly standing draped in his holy shroud
God's representative mumbles to a tearful crowd

I now pronounce you
I now pronounce you

There's a feeling deep inside of you a feeling that of ease
You're the sweetest thing that could ever happen for me
Bridesmaids are cleaning the court-house bell
Horse-driven carriages wait patiently in hell
Gallantly standing draped in his holy shroud
God's representative mumbles to a tearful crowd

I now pronounce you
I now pronounce you

Madness I Pronounce You Comments
  1. S.... H....

One of their best songs by mile. Sounds fresh to this day. Absolutely brilliant.

  2. n.... r....

One of my favourites love madness

  3. P.... H....

From what I heard Woody said he was not contacted to do this recording. He was pretty aggrieved at this, at the time.

  4. b.... ....

At 3:32, Chas' smile makes him look like a young Ricky Gervais!

  5. D.... S....

    Lovely chorus.

  6. b.... ....

Good track but the horrible funkateer session bassist and drum machine let it down. Why did Mark Bedford (bass) and Daniel Woodgate (drums) leave?

  7. A.... S....

    ever good!!!

  8. A.... P....

I actually prefer the latter part of their career from Keep moving until they split. Favourite song has to be In the city though.

  9. S.... ....

Madness goes Beach boys and Cocomo :)

    S.... ....

    SuperHammaren dick.

  10. J.... W....

    the best

  11. T.... P....

Love this song so much, very underrated, deffo one of my faves too

  12. G.... ....

I can't understand why this song didn't make at least top twenty, it is superb. Fantastic music arrangement. The use of the Indian instrument ( I can never remember what they call it), was a good touch to the song as well. Long live the nutty boys.

    G.... ....

    sitar is indian instrument

  13. J.... B....

I remember dancing and singing to this tune once I got home from getting three teeth ripped out by a dentist.

  14. S.... R....

    A beautifully under-rated song.
Bizarrely one of my favourites from Madness.

    S.... R....

Strictly speaking it isn't, despite the band acknowledging it as an album that they made under the alias "The Madness"

    S.... R....

Well it is really isn't it, I mean it's John Hasler on the drums so you can swap him on the trump cards for Mike on piano and Woody on drums, granted you would lose a shit load of top trumps points but you'd still be in the game, kind of.....haha

    S.... R....

It looks like bloody madness to me!!

    S.... R....

It's just not Madness without Dan Woodgate and his Woody Woodpecker!

    S.... R....

also looks like the nutty boys so thats why its THE madness here
    top band nonetheless

  15. A.... ....

    Robot Jones

  16. M.... M....

    yes it is

  17. N.... K....

    John Hasler I think

  18. s.... ....

one of the best madness songs sounds fresh still! Shame they won't play some of this stuff live think it would sound awesome, especially thunder & lightning, nail down the days, gabriels horn etc. Love The Madness!

  22. G.... K....

Two giants of the music industry in one vid. Love it.RIP Mr Ian Dury.

  25. s.... ....

I can't find this on CD anywhere. Did madness get into trouble over this song or something?

  37. J.... T....

    wish carl would marry me!

  38. d.... ....

no woody, bedders or barson still a great tune.the 80's maybe over but it was the best music decade,60's great up an runnin 70's no one cared just enjoy 80's fun great atmosphere 90's far too serious and slagged of all the previous decades.now well and truly fucked after years of slagging off previous decades.

  39. k.... ....

There to good for a brit award. The best band in the world award is what they deserve. They should shun the brit awards.

  40. M.... ....

Hasler was just filling in on the video (he was their manager) for appearances sake. There is no drummer on this track, it's a drum machine program.

  41. K.... ....

Next time, they roped him up and dragged him to the studio.

  42. s.... a....

because woody got lost on the way to the recording studio :0

  43. C.... K....

Bedders and Woody weren't in The Madness. Though John Hasler didn't play on the record, perhaps they just asked him to be in the video as he is a mate.

  44. B.... M....

we love this song very much.......the sound is great!

  45. b.... ....

They where called the madness because Woody worked out a contract where it could only be called Madness if there was at least 6 of them in the band. So The Madness was a way of getting over legal problems.

  46. s.... c....

    so sweet suggs never aged

  47. a.... ....

    MADNESS FOR A BRIT AWARD!!

    watch?v=LFWlL6uvqg4

  48. C.... K....

I would still consider this a Madness album though. By the way, did you spot John Hasler on the drums there?

  49. J.... T....

i love this one!!!! a very sexy Chas in this one!!

  50. C.... d....

    lovin it

  51. H.... C....

The final end of the final entity that is madness...

    ...until now.

  52. s.... ....

    and the bassplayer?

    s.... ....

    Peter Scott

  53. r.... ....

Werent they in Voice of a Beehive at that time. I loved this Song! Still do. 'Beat the Bride'(Next Search) was the Best from this period.

  54. H.... ....

No Woody, no Barson, no Bedders... but still great !!! Even with one member left Madness will create good music. But it's good the see them all together again today !!!

  55. a.... e....

    lovely.

  56. S.... T....

this was during the short lived "The Madness" era, in which Mark wasnt involved neither was Woody. hope that explains it. great song though.

  57. 9.... ....

Great tune- where was Bedders for the video shoot?

Must have been tough to get them all in the same room at the same time! :)
